As a woman of Nimiipuu (Nez Perce) and Greek parents, I was truly excited to see this production. It was well publicized on social media, so I shared out and encouraged friends to join me. It's opening weekend, and I attended the Sunday matinee to attend the opening speech given by Nimiipuu artist, Kellen Trenel, responsible for costumes and set design. His talents stem from generations of traditional beadwork, weaving, and design. The collage of personal, familial, and upcycled modern pieces were evident and truly added a special touch. The setting is small and intimate, but if I'd offer any suggestions, it would be to provide a mic for any Q&A. The story was comedic at times, and made you pause to really absorb the message. The ending packed a punch and brought tears to my eyes! Hats off to all who were involved in bringing this moving play to the area. Hillsboro is a beautiful town that I've not visited, but am glad to have had the opportunity to see more of the region.

My office is in Hillsboro and I live in Beaverton so this is truly a perfect location for me to see a show. The location is also grand when you consider how many great spots are available for getting food before the show or late night places for after the show. The parking is not ideal, especially if you have mobility issues. The parking is also not horrible - you will likely be a few blocks away so you are going to want to plan accordingly. Downtown Hillsboro does become a ghost town after 7pm so you can leisurely walk back to your car after the show. When you walk into the space it seems fairly small based on the lobby. This is just where you check in and grab some wine. The theater itself is a nice layout although you will want to be mindful to go to your right and sit far right if you are in need of a restroom a lot or else you may get stuck. There is not a bad seat in the house from what I could see. The stage and audience seating proximity is pretty perfect and the theater has a very open feel to it so I never felt cramped or like the air was stagnant etc. This is just a great place to see something unique. If A Clockwork Orange is any indication of the quality of shows put on at the Vault - I can't wait to see another show here.

It is community theater, run and managed by a team of volunteers. Prices are amazing for seeing a show here. They definitely are helping the local downtown Hillsboro community by offering affordable shows on a routine basis. Since after COVID, they have been upping their game. Concessions are better, production value is better, and the variety of fun/classic shows is better. I can wait to see what's in store for them next!

Fun | Great for all kids…read more My daughter expressed an interest in doing dance this past year, so I thought I'd enroll her in a class here. I was recommended to also join this school from one of our neighbors. If you're looking to enroll your kids, they go by the academic school calendar, so enrollment begins around the time school starts. When schools are off on holidays and snow days, it applies to this dance school as well. It's something to keep in mind. My 6 yr old is enrolled in Miss Megan's Tap-Acro-Jazz Dance once a week. This age range is 5-6yr olds. She's about 4 months in into this class and enjoys it. Parents are not allowed to sit in and watch. However, there are two dates when parents are allowed to sit in and watch how much progress the kids have made since the start of class. It's a popular class, so it seems like a full class. They start off with tap warmups then work into their choreographies and switch to Jazz. They end the hour long class with acro, and this seems to be the favorite part of the class. My daughter tells me she loves acro because she gets to do fun exercises, like walking on a balance block. Everything is safe and appropriate for their age. Miss Megan has the class flowing well and transitions all of the kids onto the page somehow. Sometime in December they do measurements for performance clothing/ costumes in June. I believe it is about $100. Every month, the tuition is $72 paid through their website. For this particular class, kids need to buy jazz shoes, tap shoes, and a leotard or something similar. Communication is great, as Miss Megan sends a monthly newsletter with important events and dates coming up. We're excited to watch the showcase in June. So far, we recommend this activity and this school.

I signed my daughter up in second grade, which is pretty young for a structured activity, especially for my then dreamy, imaginative child. Within a few weeks, she was loving it. Eight years later, she had taken most of the classes and levels, including three years of performance company and was ready for a steady stream of high school theater productions and classes at NW Dance Project in PDX. Now that she is in college, she is a teacher and choreographer herself at places like Willowbrook, Musical Theatre camps and dance classes. Campus organizations and professors invite her choreographic input. What's nice about dance is that it is not only a physical outlet but also a musical, theatrical and collaborative experience. Dancing is one of my daughter's greatest joys. I appreciate the whole extended team at Innovative from the past decade. Their collective work makes the world a better place.

It can be challenging enough in a venue but with the added difficulty of an outdoor stage, that's truly amazing. They also had a delicious looking wine selection and some snacks as well as non alcoholic drinks available! Everything was well priced.

Students will also be recognized as having the finest training available anywhere and parents can be proud and grateful that they are receiving a training that is not only technically excellent but also anatomically caring and correct so as to not damage their young bodies in any way. Sadly, many students are not cared for to this degree and incorrect training can ruin dreams and chances for a future career when individual bodies and range of motion are not taken into account. My first experience with Bag&Baggage was ten years ago and it was hot…read more Not in the sense of the actors giving a sizzling performance on stage, but more like dying of heat exhaustion watching a show (The Complete Works of Shakespeare Abridged) in the Octagonal Barn at Cornelius Pass Roadhouse when someone over stoked the fire. I don't know how the actors survived that night, but the show must go on! In the early days, Bag&Baggage was an acting troupe without a home, hence the appropriately whimsical name for their company. So they would pop up to perform on different stages and venues all over the state. Fast forward 10 years and I've gotten to really know and love this acting company which is now based in the 400 seat theatre at The Venetian in Hillsboro's historic downtown Main Street. The founder and creative director, Scott Palmer, and his cast of actors are making some really interesting choices. This season I saw the all female cast perform The Six Gentlepersons of Verona and the wonderful Our Country's Good just wrapped up an excellent run. They have a solid resident company of actors [1] and I've also been intrigued by the set design, costuming, etc. For example, The Six Gentlepersons' set was a collection of moving boxes of various sizes painted on four sides and then rotated and moved in different formations to set the stage for different scenes during the show. Portland has a wonderful theatre scene, but you don't have to be in Portland proper to have a great theatre experience. Combine that with The Venetian's bar and restaurant, free and easy parking, and you have a great dinner and a show combo in Hillsboro.
