Pretty great place if you're looking for a board game - great selection of what you've never heard of and very likely - whatever it is you're looking for. According to Time Out Sydney, Games Paradise is one of Australia's top 100 games shops, for having the best selection of board games around. I just bought a puzzle for an up and coming flight, and at just $5, the store provides both cheap and fast entertainment, as well as specific and querky high range products - even real life HP potions for mortals over 12! The best part of this shop is the middle aged woman who served us. With some kind of European accent (English, Irish, other, I couldn't be sure), she seems reminds me of the typical Irish lady who we all have living next door and wants to help everyone with everything. Games Paradise Pitt Street is the pace to go for board games, and this lady is the person to go to for advice. If you are walking past it in the street, looking for a board game, bored and looking for fun, or needing a different gift for a friend, Games Paradise is my recommendation. read more

I went into Games Paradise looking for a game. I stepped into the Paradise of Games, as it claims to be, and began browsing the shelves. I had no intended game on my mind, I simply knew that a game was what I needed. The aisles are small and the shop could best be described as cosy, if not claustrophobic. Yes, it is a small shop, but here I am hinting about just how many games there are available. Board games, card games, games I didn't know existed. Puzzle games, sex games, games for young, games for old, multiplayer games, single player games, travelling games, games with such complex set ups that you would need to take the monday off in order to complete them. (And that's if you start on a Wednesday.) There are games everywhere! Games stacked on games stacked on games stacked on shelves. If there's a game, they have it. Well, maybe not hopscotch, but they probably sell chalk. There aren't a lot of places that cater specifically for the board game and all its affiliates. Games are sold in all kinds of places, but here they've all come together in their gamey paradise and I guess they like it because they put up with the cramped conditions. The lady behind the counter was very helpful and eager to recommend to me what game, based upon my needs, I would require. The prices are a little steep, but I think that's just board games. And if you really thought about it. The amount of time you spend playing a game like Monopoly, if you pay $40 for it, more if you get the 'Star Wars - Special Edition' like I did. If you really work it out, if you do the maths, it's actually a great deal. For your enjoyment you're probably paying less than twenty cents an hour. Cha-Ching! read more

I walked in to Games Paradise on Saturday morning with my pro gaming family with the intention of purchasing two expansions for existing games. I came across literally the worst customer service I have ever experienced. Before I was even fully in the store there was an older woman whose sole aim seemed to be blocking me from the shelves. Every game I touched was quickly whipped out again and replaced after being turned over and over as though it had been sullied. We were told there was "nothing in the store for us" The woman was bizarrely rude and unhelpful. My son picked up a Pathfinder rule book on display and was told sharply to "put it down" The assistant had no business working at this store, she was rude and although we did buy the two expansions that day and the store was well stocked, I refuse to purchase anything at that store or online from Games Paradise ever again. STAY AWAY 5 months between ordering and finally getting a refund. Bought 3 games in march sale and never received them (despite the site saying they're all 'in stock'). Had them promised to be shipped out, promised a refund (which didn't happen until paypal dispute), promised store credit, promised free copies of said games because their service was so bad, and eventually just had all emails ignored when I received NOTHING. This is definitely a store for gamers. When I was first getting in to bored games I found the mix of hard to understand sectioning and not so easy to work with customer service to be a bit off-putting. But after a while, I found that its actually quite a nice place to shop at. If you just want to have a browse, or are trying to get your head around some of the different levels and kinds of games, the two guys that work there can be very helpful in that are, recommending games and helping you around. For more advanced gamers, the store is near perfect, it has a wide variety of games, and the owner of the store is actually quite nice if you act respectful. If your planning on getting into bored games, this store is a good starting point. read more

Well, once again my inner nerd is coming out writing a review on a gaming shop. I have to say that I don't frequent these places as much as I used to, but I still love to wonder into them every so often to see what has changed. I remember this shop from ages ago - in fact it seems to be one of those shops that has always been though, though it has expanded with the abundance of offerings now available. All of the roleplaying stuff is on the upper level (though since my roleplay days are long past I generally don't look up there any more - anyway I know I won't find anything I really want) while down stairs you have a huge number of games, both weird and wonderful, from the common garden variety games that you find in any toy shop to the down right bizarre. I also have to mention that the owner (or at least the guy behind the counter) was marvellous. He was more than willing to help me, even though I was spending ages working out what I wanted to buy (and ended up going with the magic cards). read more

Placed online order for a new game that was marked as "in stock". Website states processing time of 2-3 days. Get an email a week later saying "as you all know, during our sales processing can be up to 10 business days" Waited additional days. Emailed to say "if it's not sent by the end of the week, please cancel my order and refund". Received no reply. Called them at the end of the week; "during the sale blah blah, it should get sent on Monday" Following Thursday order still "processing". Call to cancel order and no attempts made to dissuade my decision. 0/10 would not shop again. 0/10 communication from business. 0/10 service from staff. 5/10 friendliness of staff. read more

Complete con artists. Do not buy online from them. Paid $130 for a board game. Didn't hear a peep from them afterwards - gave them the benefit of a doubt and waited a couple of weeks to email them. Only then was I told they didn't have the item in stock (despite them taking the money and listing it as in stock). Was told I'd be issued a refund. Two weeks later and still nothing. Have sent them several emails and have not heard a peep. Judging from the other reviews online this is not a once off. Wish I had read the reviews before. read more

I ordered 3 games during an online sales period. I understood the 14 day delivery expectation yet it took 2-3months and many emails chasing my order before only 1 of the games arrived.. and it arrived damaged due to poor packaging. After enquiring where the other 2 games were, they said they will be sent "soon from another warehouse". After another week I lost all patience and cancelled my order and returned the damaged game. They then said my refund would be processed within 48hrs. A week later after another chasing email they finally processed the refund. Really really poor service. They sold stock I assume they never had because otherwise why would it take so long. They offered store credit as compensation but they never gave it to me, all I got was false promises instead of telling me the actual situation. In the meantime in the week that I had cancelled the order, I ordered 2 of the same games from elsewhere. One from an online store in Melbourne (Gameology) and another in the UK (Booktopia). Both have arrived in perfect condition BEFORE the refund was finally issued. Will never use or recommend to anyone. I am even boycotting their physical store on Pitt St. read more

It is now almost 6 weeks later....no product and no refund!!!: - I have had a product ordered for over a month which still has not been sent (ordered on the 20th of March) - I have called every week, sometimes with follow up e-mails (as seen below), and been lied to every time, both in writing and over the phone, saying that my order will still be sent. - When finally coming to my senses to request a refund (12th of April - which was 2 weeks ago) it was only processed when I called up a second time on the 19th of April - So i have received an e-mail last week (5 working days ago) that i was going to get a refund, but this has still not happened. In my eye's this is an unreasonable amount of time to wait for an online product shipped domestically. Without exaggeration, that is the worst service I have ever received in any store for the 31 years of my life !! I came here with a takeaway coffee, with the intention of leisurely browsing the games before purchasing a Dominion card game. The elderly female staff member has a bad attitude and pesters the customers... She wouldn't leave me alone, even after I politely told her twice that I was fine browsing, then she accused me of wanting to steal something.. I was so OFFENDED that I left the store without buying anything, nor finishing my coffee. I will not support this store anymore and I will purchase Dominion online much cheaper anyway. read more

After a month of excuses that the item will be sent soon, I asked for a refund, they are now saying that my refund is in the queue (still no refund after a week and waiting). It took them a 7 days to ship my order, which arrived to the recipient after their birthday. I emailed customer service after placing my order to make sure the package will reach the recipient on time. A person by the name of Anton assured my that it will not be a problem. They ended up shipping the game 7 days late, and it did not reach the recipient on time. I emailed customer service about this, but they have not responded. I do not recommend this store. read more

Really expensive compared to other shops that are a bit farther out of town, and they won't honor the prices on the website if you want to buy them in the store! I avoid the online store, since I've had bad experiences there. I was so shocked at the apalling customer service that I instantly joined Yelp so I could air my complaint. The short story is this; I bought a chess set for Christmas - it was missing a piece and a couple of other pieces were not in good shape. Ok, I get it - sometimes this happens....just take it back, politely point out the problem, get a replacement and move on. If only ! Bee V on Yelp wrote yesterday about a woman in the store who I'm sure is teh same one who served me - Bee could have been telling my story ! The woman fluffed about , didn't want to know about my problem and didn't believe the issue I had. I didn't make a fuss, I didn't even complain - I simply pointed out a modest issue that seemed so simple to resolve. When I got my replacement box, I decided to check it....once bitten and all that. The pieces inside the box were different to the one's in the original box. When I pointed this out (I was simply curious and not complaining) the woman said, and I quote "Well, I don't care !!" What the hell, I thought...where did THAT come from ? Long story short, I had to live with it and will never shop in this store again and I have now retold this story to about 15 people. read more

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. She followed us around the store and insisted on straightening everything we touched. Now... I work in retail and I certainly hate when customers come in and put stuff back where it doesn't belong/backwards/whatever so I make certain that I always leave a store in as good or better shape than I found it in so I was insulted by this fact alone. Strike 1. I collect playing cards and found three decks I liked and was planning on purchasing. I casually mentioned to this lady that I wasn't really spending money that I could afford (i.e. "I'm really on the fence about buying these.") She 'asked' if I could keep them at the counter like I was going to steal them. Strike 2. A phone call came in for her as we were browsing the middle isle. My girlfriend had just made the comment that she actually felt claustrophobic in that isle and this lady's customer service was pretty awful. In comes this lady with a head of steam into the isle talking on the cordless phone and blows through us like we're not even there. Now, I'm a pretty tolerant person and I still had plans to make my purchase up until this point. Strike 3. We left and she sang out after us asking if we still wanted to buy the cards to which was replied, "No, we're ok without." Absolutely atrocious. I hope this lady is the owner and I hope the store is losing a ton of money so she'll sell it to someone that will run it properly. read more
