Hobbyco stocks a large range of hobby products such as plastic model kits, Radio Controlled Models, Lego & Meccano, Model Railroad, Anime & Collectable figures, Gundam kits, Slot Cars, Jigsaw Puzzles, Board Games and much more. What a joke this place is - they clearly do not know the meaning of truth or customer service - or maybe it is just laziness or incompetence..... I was looking for something very specific for a Christmas present and google advised that I should be able to get it here, so I make the effort to go online and find they do have it (showing 5 in stock). To get it delivered would cost $10 (for a $8 item). I am only about 2-3 kms from their QVB store so I take the time and effort to find the QVB store number, call them and ask if they have any in and was advise that "sure do". I let the person know I would detour on my way home in a couple of hours to get one - can they put it aside "sure can"!! All sounds good so far.....however, ...... Get to the store less than 2 hours later to be sent downstairs where they are. Ask downstairs to be told there are none. Advised they are showing on the website and that I called through, was told they had them and was told that one could be put aside for me, that I made a special effort to detour to come in especially for this. Was told - no, don't have them, will get the website updated. Your stores don't seem to have any idea what is going on. The site is saying there are items, the store when I ring says there are, yet I get there and there is nothing and your staff seem less than helpful or apologetic about the time I have wasted. I then try to resolve this directly with HobbyCo, use the feedback form on their site (using my personal Yahoo! Address) only to get a "MAILER-DAEMON response from info@hobbyco.com.au saying "Unauthenticated email from yahoo.com.au is not accepted due to 550-5.7.1" - so as a customer who's personal email address is Yahoo! They won't accept your contact, so I follow up using my work one (against policy!) - shouldn't have bothered - a month on and NOTHING - crickets - no acknowledgement, response anything!!! Will not be trying again - BTW, got the item in the end and in time for Christmas - $1.50 cheaper online from the USA (even after they now add GST), and no shipping charges....and Australian retailers wonder why customer are going online and shopping out of the country in droves. read more

This store is located at one end of the iconic Queen Victoria Building. The place is well stocked with a huge variety of toys and hobbies from Gundam, Marvel, and anime figures to card games, model trains and animals! I thoroughly enjoyed my walk around the whole store. The prices may be a bit higher compared to other stores in Sydney suburbs or Melbourne, but if you're after something that they have in stock and you're in Sydney CBD, this store is worth the time. Take a look around the aisles and you're sure to find an item that you'd like. On a very hot and humid day, taking a stroll inside the store is not such a bad idea. The air-conditioning is top-notch. Hobbyco as a smaller venture than where it used to be (Mid City Centre) and it just doesn't seem to cut it anymore. It shelves are groaning under the weight of the amount of toys and models and other hobby stuff you want (you so want!!!!). Visual Merchandising just flies out the window, which leads you to imagine this shopping experience as akin to a 2 dollar shop. I'm sure someone is going to tell me that the old mid-city store was smaller than the current one, and granted. But it doesn't FEEL like that. Enough said - this store has the same eager beaver helpers who love their hobbies, and a fantastic selection that makes men like me drool out the corners of my mouth and recite "Want want want want want want want" over and over again in our minds as we see each new wonderment. This is Toys R Us for the big kids (or those of us adults who still take their toys seriously...very seriously). They have everything a hobbyist would desire (radio controlled cars, trains, rockets, robots, die cast figures and my personal favourite...Legos). The flagship store in the QVB takes up multiple levels and it is really an impressive space. Their motto "Hobbyco is truly a place for people who take their fun seriously" is evident by their incredible inventory and extensive staff knowledge. You can get lost in the aisles looking at all of the interesting items (wooden ship kits, large size anime models and fully functional model train steam engines), playing with the radio controlled cars on the track or trying to figure out the puzzle toys. After leaving the store I made a mental note to start blueprints on my LEGO masterpiece. read more

Whilst it doesn't have the depth of board games of the usual places I would go, it has a wide selection of board games, as well as a tonne of jigsaws, toy trains, figurines, etc.etc. It's always busy, and worth spending at least 45 minutes looking around. Terrible customer service. Bought a R/C truck for my nephew. It was faulty so my sister sent it back. The shop couldn't tell you where it was. Phoned several times and each time just a vague answer they think they sent it back to the manufacturer and my sister was made to feel a pest for even asking. They took almost a month to say nothing was wrong with it. I had to phone to get that information as they had received a week earlier waiting to give a courtesy call. The representative said that they have tried to phone them but no one returned the calls and there was no voice mail. They have voice mail and no one called them. It's not hard to leave a message. Basically I wasn't told the truth. The shop looks good, I like the sort of thing they sell but I will never buy anything from them again. Spoke to the owner a real shame as unfortunately he is not customer focused. Now they are going to send the truck back. If there was nothing wrong with it why was it sent back to the manufacturer? Why did it take a month? Why didn't they send it back when they got it a week earlier. It was a Christmas present! In short, if you want good customer service and a warranty don't buy from here. I go to this shop quite often, i collect airplanes... Although they see me at least once a week, and i spent at least $200 each time i visit, the staff( upstairez-cuz i only go there because of the planes) are really really rude!!!! Its not like i call the to show me models 100 times every 5 minutes! I always know what im looking for, so i go there check the displays and call them to come and open the cabinet and give me the models, but when i call them they take a deep breath and put their eyebrows up and walk towards the shelves with me.also two of the models which they gave me were damaged so when i said i don't want to buy them the guy was hitting the keyboard so hard to remove those models from his system and give me the bill... I mean what the hell?! I was here for just 15 minutes and now im checking out, im paying like $240 and you act like that?! If you don't feel like working stay home! Get some rest! And don't put the damaged stuff in the displays! Honestly when i went their the last time they made me feel like im doing something wrong! The guy gave me the models and just said thanks and turned around! What the hell?! So so so rude!!!! dont know who gave them the job! I asked them if they could give me a discount for the damaged one, the guy said i'll give you 10% discount and the other guys who was standing on the other side of the counter said: give him 5%..... read more

I recently visited Hobbyco in Queen Victoria Building with my 6 grandchildren aged from 4 to 8 years (5 boys and 1 girl). They were fascinated by the marvelous window display of trains , mountains, villages etc. which has obviously being put together by very enthusiastic staff members. The store is spread over 2 levels with row after row of shelves bulging with a vast array of hobbies to satisfy even the most discerning hobbyist. Trains of every description line the shelves, as do radio controlled cars rockets etc. There are games for all tastes, building blocks such as lego, model planes and ships and much much more. The staff are very knowledgable and go out of their way to satisfy your enquiries. If they don't have what you want (which is very unlikely) they will endeavour to obtain it for you. Strolling through the store brought back fond memories of when I was a child and my dad took me to Hobbyco ( I am now 69 ). Back then it did not have the vast array of stock that now line the shelves. Hobbyco is for the young and not so young and I am pleased for my grandchildren's sake that such a store still exists in this era of ipads , nintendo and online video games.The look in their eyes as they wandered through the store was a joy to behold. To all grandparents out there, take your grandchildren to the QVB and introduce them to the wonderful world of Hobbyco. read more

Great shop with heaps of fantastic toys for my kids... love the Thomas the Tank Engine model train set as well - keeps the kids entertained when in the city... Staff are friendly, and even though I go in for toys for the kids, the shop has so many things I am interested in (aged 37), that I often go away either with something for me, or plans for something in the future. read more
