I sent both of my children to Gan Aviv for 2.5 years and had a truly wonderful experience. The school has a warm, nurturing environment and a diverse community that we really appreciated. Its small size meant that everyone knew my children by name and understood their individual interests, which made the care feel very personal. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I worked here, and if you don't want your children to view toxicity at face value steer clear of this place because little eyes see everything. Between being given dirty looks by the staff (Tammy) especially, to being bullied and forced to change 27 diapers in a row while getting barked at to the point of tears. I couldn't retaliate because I'm better than fighting with adults in the presence of children. The turn around is high, they are extremely understaffed and I can attest to these horrors. This place is a Toxic Cesspool and it hurts because the only nice people there are the parents and the children. Being bullied to tears in a day care when you're the teacher, is just wrong. I have sent my both girls to Gan Aviv since they were a year old. my oldest just graduated and my little one will start nursery class next year. Both are attending the camp right now Gan Aviv is my family's second home. i am so grateful to have this opportunity to be part of this warm loving day care. The owners, Karen and Wayne Adler, run this place in perfection, A to Z, NO COMPROMISE ON NOTHING BUT PERFECTION Karen is that kind of a person you know you can trust. each and every time i entered to her office, she always welcome me with open arms, ready to listen anything i had to say or suggest. she always find a solution, no matter what, you know you can trust her. she is a person of action. she won't fool you around with words but will take an action for the best of our children. she cares for each child and each family. i have never seen a person (nor a mother of 4-mind you) running a business the way she does. and especially this kind of business, so demanding and many times disregardful. i thank god everyday for crossing my way with teachers like my girls had and will have. Morah Marta and Morah Hagel for age 2- amazing wonderful loving teachers. Morah Phillis- beyond words can describe- my oldest daughter knew all the letters and numbers up to 20 before she even turn 4. all thanks to dearest PHILLIS! Morah Aliza and Morah Aviva prepared my oldest to kindergarten- they did it absolutely phenomenon. Danielle at the front desk- WOW! that kind of a person each and every business needs The atmosphere at Gan Aviv is pure joy, you just feel at home, safe and welcome. as a Jewish parent you know you are at the right place: every shabbat is a big celebration, each holiday, Israel independence day and etc. Emphasize on Hebrew a side with the English- each class has one Hebrew speaking teacher and one English speaking teacher I meet such an amazing people in this place, teachers and parents and i am so grateful for that. read more

Both of my children were at Gan Aviv from the time they were 3 months old. One of them just graduated and the other will not be returning. I am writing this review so that other parents know exactly what they are getting themselves into when they enroll their kids here, something that I did not have the benefit of, and wish I had. First the good- some of the teachers at Gan Aviv are absolutely incredible-Nelly in the baby's room, Morah Marta and Morah Mirla. Morahs Aliza and Aviva prepared my older one for kindergarten great, but I would have appreciated more honestly from them in terms of what was going on socially in the classroom. But I am told, from other teachers, that all teachers are told to tell parents that everything is ok, even when its not. Now the bad- and there is so much bad, I don't know where to start, but I will start with the owner/director Karen. She does not smile. Ever. She does not interact with the children. Ever. She barely interacts with the parents, unless it is to ask for money. She does not address problems/concerns timely or appropriately. Examples: 1) when my older daughter was 3, the teacher announced on back to school night that she would be giving the girls weekly manicures. When I brought the absurdity of this to Karen's attention, she never responded to me, but forwarded my email to the teacher. I didn't really know what that was supposed to mean; 2) a MOTHER in my older daughter's class was bullying my daughter. When I brought this to Karen's attention, she never addressed it with the mother, and then half-heartedly told the father what had happened. Needless to say, the situation did not improve, but worsened; 3) at graduation, my ninety-year old grandparents got there on time, but apparently Karen was not ready yet, and instead of saying "welcome! We are still setting up, but you are welcome to have a seat," she barked at them like they were dogs to "go wait at the bar downstairs"; 4) a staff member actually LOST a kid (didn't realize a kid was missing for at least ten minutes, and I found him alone and in a dark room)- the staff member was not fired, was allowed to continue to care for the children, and Karen then badmouthed me for "making a big deal of it." Moving on. Understaffing is constantly an issue there. In fact, they have been cited for this violation a number of times by the Department of Education-its public record, so you don't need to take my word for it- look it up- simple google search. The quality of the staff-like I said, some of the teachers are wonderful, and I'm sure that there are others- but my kids just didn't have them. But there is CONSTANT turnover with the aftercare staff, that essentially receives no training. Most of them are high school girls, many of whom are lovely, but how can a 16 year old that is untrained possibly be equipped for the job with no training and without a strong role model? The bathrooms are FILTHY, and always smell like pee. Painting supplies and construction tools, packaging supplies are often left in front of the office, which is so dangerous. Over the years I had to constantly point at broken and dirty toys to her, which was usually met with an eye roll. I could really go on and on. I kept my kids there WAY longer than I should have out of necessity and convenience ( I work full time in NYC, and this was close to home and on the way), but it is an extremely toxic environment and really not one that I would recommend to anyone. Its families are mostly (90 percent) Israeli, and I think for new families coming from Israel, who don't know any better, it provides a safe haven for them. They get to stay insular, speak Hebrew and meet other Israelis. But if you are not Israeli, this place is a horror show. I have sent my kids to Gan Aviv for over two years and couldn't be happier that I found it. They have learned so much, made great friends and have had so much fun. The best part for me is the warm nurturing environment. When they walk in, it is like their second home, everyone knows each other and it's just a great feeling when you walk in. They are well cared for and the staff are very approachable whenever you have concerns. I highly recommend Gan Aviv if you want a warm loving place for your kids to learn, play and grow and of course learn Hebrew and Jewish traditions. read more
