This is my favorite church in all of Bergen county. The marble columns, stained glass windows and…read moremultiple sculptures create a strong sense of religious history. The tabernacle is adorned in brass and sits to the right of the altar. The devotion candles are now electric but there was a time when they used actual candles here. That's my only gripe about this church. It would definitely create more of a nostalgic feel if real candles were used. The vestibule of the church is large enough to accommodate over 100 people. The vestibule is where people who arrive late to mass--congregate. The wooden pews remain but they are beginning to wear down. The pews are as old as the church itself. This is one of the largest churches in all of Bergen county. Its also a popular venue for wedding ceremonies. Parking is not an issue. Peace be with you...

The marble, the columns, the large crucifix in the front center, the choir loft with a grand organ, the painting on the ceiling of the Blessed Trinity were all part of the experience of heaven on earth. Moreover, the Bogota Church is so beautifully kept, both inside and out! Most recently, the church members participated in a snow clean-up during the last storm. It felt manipulative and wrong to lead people away from the truth like that.

I saw a couple of the negative reviews & wanted to say that no church is perfect. There are some challenges, like everywhere else but it is a place where they are aware of it. Yes, fellowship is a bit hard to do on Sundays but it doesn't mean there isn't any at all. I've made some friends there & participate in some of the functions. It's really a matter of people finding people. Pastors Phil & Mike T, are two who engage with people in the lobby. Others are not as outgoing but definitely approachable, kind & friendly. If you're looking for a reason to not go to this church, 100% you will find it but if you really want to find a church to attend, you'll find it at NJV. It was different than all the other churches I attended but I really love it there.

You can feel that the Holy Spirit is alive and at work here. The services are so good because the messages are rooted in the Bible, and everything is backed up by scripture. I felt such a strong pull to get baptized here, and I'm so glad I did. On top of that, the community is amazing. They have a group for everything, sports, specific interests, men's and women's groups, and every age from youth to young adults and seniors. I am in a couple groups and I now serve at this church in multiple ways. The reason so much growth happens here is because the foundation is Christ. A strong Franciscan parish, that exudes openness and is very welcoming to all visitors. I have many fond memories here as I recall happily several key role models who shaped my life--primarily, the wonderful relatives, friends, priests and nuns who took such a compassionate interest in teaching us kids. Today, the parish demographics have changed... instead of Italian being the primary spoken non English language heard in and around the church, it is now Spanish but the caring Franciscan spirituality is still as alive as ever. Recently, the church celebrated its 100 year anniversary. Constructed in 1917, the church was built by Sicilian and Italian immigrants in a mid-Renaissance 14th century style. Complete with stained glass windows, a Tuscan style bell tower with real forged bells, and Italian "tegile" (terra cotta roof tiles). But the most magnificent feature is the priceless frescoes that decorate the vaulted ceiling above the altar. These are executed in a late 16th century Italian style reminiscent of Rubens and Donatello. This is a true gem among churches and the architecture is conducive to prayer and proper contemplation of God. Many weddings are held here as it is one of the few remaining churches that retains a sense and feeling of holiness while keeping all of the beauty and splendor of mankind giving his best artistry to God. Best of all, it's a community dedicated to worshipping God through the expenditure of love and mercy to others. Definitely worth a visit. See their webpage for hours, ministries, and details.
