Staff were so friendly. This place would be great for a rainy day, but it was hard to stay couped up indoors when it was such a nice day outside. We were able to leave and have lunch else where (there was no cafeteria that I noticed on site), and we were able to come back after and hang out a bit more. The kids were not too impressed with the fish, but they LOVED the water table activity center. I'd recommend a visit at least once.

All of the history of 1000 island along with a climate change museum for those who would like to learn more about the world and how we can help reduce our carbon footprint. There are little audio, and visual presentations for a few of the exhibitions and a few educational ones too that show basics of science and engineering. And last but not the least, there is a quaint yet affordable little gift shop that we loved.

I learned a bit about the now closed Kingston pen, the Womens jail right by and about some notorious criminals. It's quite small but there is still a lot to see. I was amazed at the clever innovation by the prisoners making a toaster, a liquor still, a gun, a radio and a shiv. we were lucky to have a retired correctional officer provide an impromptu tour and fill in the blanks on what life may be on the inside and insights to the riots, the escapes, Paul Bernardo and how the system works hard to rehabilitate those that need it.

Yet, he purchased other properties in the area and built at least one other house and a large farm, and came to those properties to spend summers, every year. Boldt Castle is still in the process of being finished, so the 3rd and 4th floors are pretty much white washed plaster walls in the rooms, with no fireplaces. But the ground floor and 2nd are done and are spectacular. The grounds are beautiful! A great way to spend an afternoon. Snacks and drinks are available.

The entire island is perfectly maintained with vibrant flowers and gardens that looked immaculate even in late September. There is so much to see and its much bigger than it looks. There is so much attention to detail you can still miss things even after walking around for hours. I saw a couple get married while I was there and I can't even imagine how stunning those photos will turn out! A lot of people have already mentioned the beautiful and tragic history of this castles creation. I love that you can still go tp the upper floors of the castle that are not yet renovated and see the graffiti and signs of decay. The layout of the castle really tells a story and the classical music played in the background really adds to the immersion. There are also audio tours available. So much love was put into the original vision and execution of this project as well as the restoration. There are even heats all over the island. 10/10 would recommend spending a few hours here if you're ever visiting the area.

He attended the art school at Yale University and eventually went out west to Montana at age nineteen, returning to Ogdensburg and eventually his first publishing in 1886 at the age of twenty-five. He is perhaps best known for the sculpture "The Broncho Buster" which has a copy here on display. As well, a number of his other paintings of the west. The images have captions and there are art tours/discussions on a regular basis. I have encountered his works at the Great Plains Art Museum in Lincoln NE, the Denver Art Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. You will know it when you see it. While I wont drive especially for this museum if you live in Kingstone or are in the area this is a perfect kids activity for a rainy/snowy day. My kids (9&5) had a really good time here.
