Ample space in the fairways makes maneuvering to dock very easy. Ample water and power. Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent security. Reasonable prices for what you're getting. THE THORNS: All the power pedestals I've seen have only 50amp outlets. The marina does have loaner adapters for yachtsmen you use 30amp power, but it's a bit of a chore to go get one and then remember to return it before you leave. NEITHER ROSE NOR THORN: Curiously, some of the photos posted are of the resort at Roche Harbor, which is not the marina being reviewed here. THE VERDICT: This large marina is well-located located for explorations in Canada's Gulf Islands. If there's a better-equipped and run marina in this neck of the woods, I haven't seen it yet. Highly recommend!

But usually this Shell is slightly more expensive than Co-op. It is attached to a convenient store. The convenient store does have some groceries items such as milk and cheese. There is also an ATM machine inside if you need some cash. It is also beside a few fast food restaurants such as McDonald or A&W.

When we want to use our boat, a quick call to schedule with Laura or Emma ensures it is waiting for us, and when we are done at a prearranged date and time, they take care of hauling it out and putting it in blocks. Their staff are friendly and professional, the marina is in beautiful condition, and the Seagrass Bistro is a wonderful place to eat. It seems few companies deliver what they promise these days. Van Isle Marina is an exception and we are thrilled to call it our home port!

THE ROSES: Well maintained physical plant in a wonderfully protected bay. Ample 30A and 15A power. Fuel dock with gasoline and diesel at reasonable prices. Marina staff is professional and very pleasant. Clean washrooms. The marina has a nice little store and a really nice pub/eatery (Crane and Robin) on premises. You can also rent kayaks and scooters here. They take reservations for dock space. Some nice restaurants (Pilgrimme, Hummingbird Pub) nearby. THE THORNS: Due to an acute water shortage on the island, there is no water for refilling boat tanks or showers. No Pumpout station (closest one is Ganges public dock, 5 miles away on Salt Spring Island). THE VERDICT: Well worth the visit and worth paying the premium for not having to dinghy in. Recommend.

As there are normally hidden charges and unexpected charges on near everything these days,...I make…read morea specific point of asking the total cost prior to getting any work done. When they tell me the cost I ask again,...."are there are any other hidden costs of charges and every time they say "no", that is the price. I get the work done. And exactly on cue the bill comes in with 2 other additional charges before taxes. I asked for "TOTAL COST". And the total cost is not what they say it is. Then use taxes as an excuse for not telling u the real price. Yes we have to pay taxes and extortion fees but why do they not tell u about extra cost for oil when they know exactly what the car takes,...and why do they not tell u of the environ fee,...and why do they not tell u the total cost which should include the taxes?? When u ask for the TOTAL charge I very much resent this and especially as when I inquired about this was met with kinda snarky/fed up look with a bold reply to crush my asking. His face completely changed. This was from the native guy who I believe overlooks the operation or perhaps a supervisor. and bowled over reply. Guy who did the actual oil change was great but I will not return. So typical to conveniently leave out these extra charges to get u to get the work done with them,...then there is no turning back. They depend on this. Booooooooooo
