Ample space in the fairways makes maneuvering to dock very easy. Ample water and power. Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent security. Reasonable prices for what you're getting. THE THORNS: All the power pedestals I've seen have only 50amp outlets. The marina does have loaner adapters for yachtsmen you use 30amp power, but it's a bit of a chore to go get one and then remember to return it before you leave. NEITHER ROSE NOR THORN: Curiously, some of the photos posted are of the resort at Roche Harbor, which is not the marina being reviewed here. THE VERDICT: This large marina is well-located located for explorations in Canada's Gulf Islands. If there's a better-equipped and run marina in this neck of the woods, I haven't seen it yet. It was definitely a mess. I spent two days cleaning it and getting rid of garbage and going through things knowing my mom would be coming over. The marina just cared about getting the mortgage fee. Although there was no will or executor for the estate we intended to work with them so they weren't out of pocket anything. The marina said my uncle paid in arrears although that wasn't in his contract. I'm guessing they were collecting twice on one month. After leaving town and returning with my family for the celebration of life which was to take place at the boat my mom and I were banned from entering the marina until the moorage was paid!!!! The day before I received info -including photos- that Jim had his dock hand cleaning out the boat!! They went on and removed whatever they wanted and trashed the boat!! It looked like a crackhead had lived there by the time they were done. Furniture broken and piled up. Garbage everywhere (I had taken all the garbage out when I had left). Every plate, pot and small appliance was gone from the kitchen. (I have photos to show what it looked like when I left it and what it looked like when I returned. ) When I spoke to Jim he said my mom had given it all to him including the dinghy and the motorcycle SHE HAD NOT. I told him he needed proof of this before he could break and enter into someone's boat. He said my mom was a liar. When he spoke to my mom he told her to get a lawyer and sue him. This man has no values. He lies and steals. We've heard many other negative stories about him and how he treats the residents. His exwife is the one that lives there and runs the place when he's away and living in Ontario. She comes across as a middle man trying to keep the peace but don't be fooled. She is 100% on his side.

THE ROSES: Well maintained physical plant in a wonderfully protected bay. Ample 30A and 15A power. Fuel dock with gasoline and diesel at reasonable prices. Marina staff is professional and very pleasant. Clean washrooms. The marina has a nice little store and a really nice pub/eatery (Crane and Robin) on premises. You can also rent kayaks and scooters here. They take reservations for dock space. Some nice restaurants (Pilgrimme, Hummingbird Pub) nearby. THE THORNS: Due to an acute water shortage on the island, there is no water for refilling boat tanks or showers. No Pumpout station (closest one is Ganges public dock, 5 miles away on Salt Spring Island). THE VERDICT: Well worth the visit and worth paying the premium for not having to dinghy in. Recommend.

One particularly nice looking eatery is right at the top of the dock. THE THORNS: Location can be a bit rocky when the wind is up. Prices are at the upper end, but this is mitigated by the high quality of the marina and service. TOP TIP: Try to get them to assign you a slip in the marina. They will dock boats on the outside float, but you don't want to go there as it can be a bit rocky when the wind is up. THE VERDICT: While rather spendy for transient moorage, Mill Bay Marina provides solid value for money with its excellent facility and superior staff. I recommend.

The marina at Roche Harbor Resort isn't cheap (but interestingly, it's about the same to moor here…read moreat it is to moor at the much humbler marina at nearby Deer Harbor), but they pack the experience with so much value that it is actually a 'must visit' stop for the discriminating yachtsman. THE ROSES: Oh my, where to start? The staff (which will cheerfully help you dock and leave) are young, friendly, efficient, and - god help me - very easy on the eyes. I get a feeling working here is a very desirable summer gig, because they seem to be able to hire the 'cream of the crop' of the local (?) youth. The physical plant (docks, power, water, onshore amenities) are in perfect working order and impeccably clean. What really puts RHM over the top is all the little extras. Want to do some grilling dockside? They will deliver a top-quality (Saber) gas grill to your slip on request. Complimentary pump outs (via the 'Phecal Phreak' Pumpout service) are also available on request. Visiting yachtsmen receive on arrival a lovely 'welcome packet' which includes vouchers to a complimentary wine reception, and a punchcard that gives you a free RHM hat if you visit four of the onshore stores. The marina has a fairly well-stocked grocery store, wine merchant, multiple clothing and gift shops, and both casual and fine dining options. There is also a boatyard/marine mechanic (Phil Brooks), and a small marine chandlery. THE THORNS: None worth mentioning. THE VERDICT: Roche Harbor Marina is one of the - if not THE - premiere yachting destination in the Pacific Northwest. While not bargain travel, RHM delivers probably the most 'bang for the buck' of any marina in the region. Very highly recommend.

The marina is fairly well protected from weather, the fairways are generous and the staff helps you tie up. The docks are in good condition. Lighting is adequate at night (not too little, but more importantly, not too much!), power pedestals are in good condition. Water is from a reverse osmosis system, so you need to be careful with your usage. No boat washing, which is fine. The general store and cafe are awesome. Good food, essential supplies and good business hours. Restrooms are clean and spacious. Hand dryers but no paper towels, which is okay but not great. Laundry facility is clean with good equipment. Nearby food is very good but limited. There is a pizza place directly across from the marina - limited hours. The BBQ place up the street (10-minute walk) is fantastic and has a good selection of beer, a full bar and a huge outdoor seating area. Overall, the vibe is relaxed. There are some party floats for yacht club events.

La Conner Marina is a great place for boaters and visitors…read more The marina features extensive covered moorage on 8 docks, two large guest docks, clean and comfortable restrooms, large laundry facility, two pumpout machines (one on each guest dock) and expensive outdoor/lawn/picnic space. Most of the slips feature finger piers on both sides of the boat, making this a very desirable location for covered moorage. As such, expect a long waitlist that could have you waiting for two or three years. Plenty of parking even when they host large events like the 4th of July celebration. Staff is friendly, courteous and very responsive to inquiries and issues. I haven't reviewed the RV park, as I haven't stayed there, but as a casual observer, the park is clean, reasonably lit without being too bright, close to the restrooms and laundry, and a short walk from town.

The first weekend was last summer, and the second one was this past weekend when we "glamped" there to once again meet up with friends who were docked at the marina for the weekend. The RV park is definitely no frills. The sites are close together, the trees are few and far between, and the sites don't include picnic tables or firepits. But they are all full-hookup, the park is well maintained and quiet, and you can't beat the sweet streets of downtown La Conner being just a quick walk (or even quicker drive) down the street. There's also a bathhouse with toilets and showers, all of which were immaculately clean. (You can get the door code from the campground host at RV Site #1.)

Seemingly nice marina, managements communication is poor. Their "potable water" is "below the legal…read morelimit" but their well has salt water intrusion and tastes terrible, I personally would not concluded it potable, I have to haul drinking water aboard. The dock cleats are not fastened to the dock securely enough in many slips. The dock sections seem hobbled together at best. In fact a friend of ours who was a liveaboard here drowned in March. The end of the dock has some dangerously questionable connections on the outer docks, I can't get a dock cart out past the gaps without a piece of plywood I supplied to help the cart over the gaps to get to my slip. The provided dock carts are trashy and in disrepair. They get one star for having unlocked dumpsters.
