We used Yelp's Projects feature to look for contractors to help us resolve this situation. I added a picture of the part making unusual noises to my Yelp project request to provide some detail about the situation. Tom's Plumbing & Heating Services responded first. From my photo, Justin identified my malfunctioning part as the circulator pump, and after a few questions confirming that nothing else was wrong, Justin recommended that the circulator pump be replaced. He provided two options for circulator pumps, along with web links and total costs for each option, and a web link to my existing circulator pump for reference. I selected a pump with horsepower equivalent to my existing pump. The cost of all parts that Justin referenced were roughly equivalent on Amazon.com. Other vendors requested a complete picture of the boiler system, or had initial consultation fees. The service visit totaled roughly 90 minutes. In that time, Justin: - Replaced the boiler drain valve because it hasn't been used in many years and no longer worked - Drained my boiler - Installed the new circulator pump - Bled (i.e., removed air from) most of my radiators. Justin emphasized the importance of bleeding the radiators, as air in the system reduces the boiler's efficiency. - Demonstrated how to override the water pressure regulator in case of insufficient system pressure. - Pointed out other potential points of failure to monitor in the boiler system -- the water pressure regulator and expansion tank. We set up an appointment for early Monday morning and Niko was there promptly and even made arrangement to arrive earlier than we first agreed upon. Niko arrived on time, reviewed the current installation, provide a more than fair price for the job and once agreed upon, had the model water heater I requested with a service crew onsite within 30 minutes. The job was completed within a few hours and the water heater was fired up without issue. Their crew was professional and respectful and after only a few hours, we had a new water heater installed. I rate Woodhaven Plumbing & Heating four stars as they have bad attendance of having two no-shows despite of numerous appointments with the added incentive office location within walking distance-- ergo, no excuse! After removing the existing parts of the toilet and shower knobs, the dude announced: "these parts are very bad that I put in all new parts buddy." Duh, really... no kidding Sherlock! That's why you're here to fix it dude! In addition, the work of this plumber is very sloppy as after the dude completed the job he left a gargantuan mess with debris everywhere in our bathroom.
