We went on a Friday for lunch and since it was a nice day, we sat outside on the small patio. There's room for about a dozen diners. By noontime, the patio is in the shade from the buildings. We ordered the Dip Taster with half portions of hummus, baba ghannouj, labneh, muhammara. They were all very fresh tasting--great with pita or cucumber slices. The fattoush salad had a balsamic dressing with crispy pita chips and pomegranate. The chicken shish taouk came with large tender chunks of grilled chicken which went deliciously well with the garlic sauce. I liked the seasoned pita corner and sliced pickle. Had an absolutely delicious dinner here on a Tuesday evening and the restaurant was full so I recommend making reservations even for weekdays. The restaurant is on the lower level of an old building and is rather cozy inside. We tried the baba gannoujj, kibbé, side order of fattouche salad, kafta and shish taouk skewers. The baba gannoujj came cold and was creamy and especially tasty with the olive oil and pomegranate seeds. The kibbé was fried crispy and hot and stayed soft and fluffy inside. The fattouche salad was dressed perfectly with a bit of sweet and sour flavours from the pomegranate molasses dressing. The kafta and chicken skewers were cooked perfectly over a charcoal grill. The meat was juicy, seasoned well and had a great charcoal aroma. They also serve it over a slice of pita underneath the meat to capture the juices, and a dressed slice of pita on top which was outstanding. They also serve you free pita which come in 2 pieces at a time. The food was absolutely amazing and service was fast and attentive. read more

First timer. Loved it, and so did my Moroccan friend. Had the beef and chicken kafta (which was very tasty with traditional Lebanese spices), the beef kafta comes with humus on the side. Odered Humus with roasted garlic with pita. The pita was store bought and ok, the humus was tasty and made up for it. Taboolei (sp?) Also tasty. In Montreal for work and seeking some good Mediterranean because, why not? I already tried Boustan and it was delightful, but I wanted something slower paced and more elegant so I found this place. Here's how it went! Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right off of Rue Mackay is this place. It's all street parking since it's downtown. It's not quite hidden, but it's not screaming for your attention either. It's a relatively small spot, so I highly recommend making reservations via Open Table in advance. There's a bit of outdoor seating and a medium amount of space in the main dining room. We were tucked in the very back corner of the restaurant right by the kitchen so we could see all the plates walking right by us. (It only made choosing something more difficult because everything looked so good. Lol.) It was fairly busy so it wasn't too loud to where we couldn't hear each other talking so it was fine. I can't quite remember what the decor looked like so maybe it didn't stand out to me... then again I am doing this review more than 2 months after visiting. Oh well. Service: Chaymaa took excellent care of us. We wanted for nothing and she was quick as well as efficient. Food: For my appetizer I started with the fattouche salad which is a mix of vegetables, seasoned with olive oil, pomegranate molasses and topped with fried pita bread. It was very good and a light, fresh start to my meal. For my entree I went with the heftiest thing they had (I keep doing that and it's probably why I'm 270 pounds now) the "Mixed Grill". It's 5 skewers in total. It's basically 1 of each other skewers they offer so you get a kafta (beef), kabob khash khash (mixed meats), shish taouk (grilled chicken), shish taouk chili (spicy grilled chicken) and filet mignon. The skewers come nestled inside this pita bread that you pull back with 2 more slices of special pita bread on top. It was A LOT of food and would've easily been enough on its own. Everything was excellently prepared and tasted delicious. Value: All prices are in $CAD. My salad was $9.00 and entree was $36.00. That's not too-too bad, but it's not cheap either. he whole experience was totally worth it though. In conclusion this place was pretty cool and worthy of its grand reputation. I would absolutely come back. It would be very difficult to stray away from that legendary mixed grill, but I'd give it a try. Lol. read more

Wow, Garage Beirut is well worth a visit. We tried the four-dish hummus etc., plates with pita, which were all delicious. We also tried an eggplant dish with onions and garlic, which was wonderful. We got a table without a reservation, but everyone after us seemed to be turned away without a reservation. The key seemed to be to arrive a little bit early for dinner. Operating in a cozy basement dining room, Garage Beirut offered a menu of rustic yet beautifully-presented Lebanese dishes! The dip sampler was a nice way to start the meal and came with four mini ramekins of mezzes including baba ghanoush, labne, muhammara topped with walnuts, and hummus topped with chickpeas, and all of the dips went nicely with the thin pita bread that came on the side. The fattoush salad was a crunchy mixture of chopped lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, and onions tossed in a pomegranate molasses vinaigrette and topped with pomegranate seeds and pita chips. The Kibbe Naye was a tartare of raw ground beef mixed with bulgur, onions, and spices and served with mint and red onions. And finally, we had the Fatte Hummus, a sort of deconstructed hummus made of chickpeas in a hot tahini yogurt sauce topped with pita chips, cashews, and ghee. The Fatte tasted slightly underseasoned, but a dash of their hot sauce really brought the flavors out, and the crunch of the pita chips, cashews, and pomegranate seeds was super satisfying! read more

That being said, we didn't have one, and with a "you can sit here, but we need the table at 730 (it was about 550)", we were on our way to a delicious meal. Very cozy restaurant tucked into an almost semi-basement. It's not obviously but also not hard to miss. Be sure to make reservation before hand because it's a popular place and has seats not more than 30 people, it was full even when we were there on a Wednesday night. They somehow managed to fit a group of 12 people but I'm sure they made reservations in advance. The decor, the brick wall and the middle eastern music in the background makes this place very charming. The menu is traditional Lebanese food and all the meat is Halal. There are some vegetarian dishes but the menu is definitely meat heavy. For a table of 3 we ordered the Shish Taouk Chili, the kebab kash kash, the sojok and the garlic potatoes. All this was more than enough especially with the complimentary pita bread. I would order every dish again, they were really great! Also very good value, we each paid $20 with taxes and tip. My only comment is I wish the music was louder as the restaurant felt kind of quiet at times. All together a very good experience and looking forward to try more of their dishes next time! read more

The menu is relatively simple, which isn't a bad thing as Garage Beirut does them well. The dip taster plate was phenomenal, everything was very tasty, my only complaint is they were all very cold as if they had come straight out of a refrigerator as that took away from the creaminess dips should have. Overall excellent for a weekday lunch. We couldn't leave without trying the dessert and decided to get the kenafeh: grainy and crunchy fried semolina on top, warm softened cheese underneath, all covered in a pleasantly sweet syrup. Solid Lebanese restaurant in Montreal! They have a small but cute patio set up in the front and the rest of the restaurant is in a semi-basement. The patio itself is nice but the basement feels a little tight for space especially with the dividers between the tables. We offered the meat platter along with fattah lahme! Both were delicious. We are definitely new fans of lahme - the yogurt along with the fried pieces of cashews, almonds etc. The veal was tender too! The meat platter was quite plentiful and filling. The staff at Garage Beirut were really accommodating to our large party and the food was plentiful and great! While this place is small, I came over here with a little more than 15 people and they were able to shift a couple tables to seat us. With a large group of us, waitress suggested we get a menu sampling option where we would get and share various suggested platters on their menu. For around $27, we were all satisfied and full. The platters started with your typical appetizer platters that included salad, cheese rolls, and baba ghanouj which were great. One of my favorite appetizers I had here was their potatoes, as they seasoned them in a way that made it taste great! As for some of the main, meaty dishes, they were all solid choices and good. The dishes were flavorful and not dry. The chef made us a mixed grill platter and Lebanese meat platter with meats such as chicken and lamb and we were also given spicy sausages that were great. Overall, we all came in here unsure what we wanted to order and we let our meal be determined by the chef with no dietary restrictions. The chef pulled through here and created a balanced meal that everyone enjoyed! The restaurant is really small though but does have seating outside. We were fortunate that it was not too busy when we went and they were able to combine most of their tables inside to accommodate our large party. read more
