Tried for the first time and definitely agree with all the 5 star reviews! Literally everything we had was delicious. We had the pulled pork sandwich, grilled cheese, grilled chicken burger, spicy chicken burger, cheesesteak sandwich, bread and butter (maple butter yummmm!), and affogato for dessert. The side salad had an apple cinnamon vinaigrette which was fabulous and unique. Other standouts were the homemade bbq sauce and feta ranch. Just writing this makes me want to go back already. We were served by the manager who had great energy and a passion for the food. She said she is creates a lot of the recipes which we thought was super cool. Good sized dining room with some booths and tables. There is an outdoor patio as well with maybe half a dozen tables. Lastly, everything was clean. We came in the later afternoon on a Sunday and were seated easily. Service was prompt and anticipated our needs. Both of us ordered a flight of wine - I had the reds, my spouse had the mixed flight. All of the wine was delicious and complex - and went well with the food. I had the fried chicken sandwich which was very satisfying - freshly fried with homemade pickles. My parents have been raving about Gard for a while now but it was always closed when I was in town. I was finally able to visit this summer and was not disappointed! I had the pork chop and it was delicious! It was cooked just right and I loved the croquettes. My mom had the burger and it looked and smelled drool worthy. I got a flight of reds, my husband ordered an amber brew. I found all 4 reds fabulous & bought 2 bottles to take back to the campground. We shared an order of carne asada cheese steak. Best I've ever tasted. The steak was tender with sautéed mushrooms (cremini?) & red peppers with a basil aioli. This sandwich was accompanied by their home-cut fries, also great! We loved our server who was very outgoing, knowledgeable and outgoing. As others have said, the ambiance is upscale comfortable with an equally nice patio, though we chose to sit inside. Being from the Eastside Seattle area, I found the wine & food value-priced especially considering the quality of food & service. We'll be back! read more

The restaurant inside is clean, a few booths, and tables good service and quick delivery of well executed plates. First up the delicious Ruben Sandwich: with amazing fries that all taste home made. The dipping sauce for the fries outstanding. The combo together tastes like sour cream and cheddar ruffles. Which is a perfect combo. Second: The pulled pork tacos juicy and also flavorful with Avocado sauce, lime, a little medium spicy salsa, and cabbage on a crispy taco. The Beet salad: One of the best salads I have had in this State. Sweet pickled beets, feta cheese, excellent local mixed salad. I normally don't eat a whole salad and devoured every bite. Found this place while paddle boarding on the lake and took a drive to check it out. I would recommend for food but service was terrible. Had to ask our server for our beer a couple times and she didn't seem to know much about the menus since I asked about the house sale and she said it had Tangerines and blue berry's, it had neither, the salad was okay but the chicken bacon sandwich was good. The location is really unexpected - it's in a rural pocket that looks a lot like Barstow - but the food is so worth the detour! Burgers, fish and chips, salads - everything was fresh and clean-tasting and also sophisticated. The waitress was fun and so charming the atmosphere was "people stoked to catch up and have a great meal" and I had an amazing strawberry custard white chocolate dessert . The rack of lamb had a hard sear on the outside with a perfect medium rare on the inside that made it absolutely succulent. The Brussels sprouts were so good I could eat a bowl of them. There were crispy burnt pieces while the big pieces weren't over cooked which was perfect! I'm personally not a big chocolate eater but the chocolate torte was worth it. Just get it, don't ask questions. It comes covered in melted, toasted, gooey, homemade marshmallow with a homemade caramel sauce, and a maple ice cream and candied walnuts. It was lovely. The wine was perfect, and the chef came out to greet us and ask us how our meal was despite it being a busy night. Can't wait to go back and try the regular menu! read more

If you're in the Royal City area and looking for a place to eat, this is a good spot. However, it is spendy, for you get. I would definitely suggest ordering their pub eats vs meats. The last two times we were disappointed with the steak and pork chop. Burgers are great. Pizza, Salads, Mac&Cheese are all good. We have had mixed experiences, our last two times (original chef is no longer there). We aren't planning to go out of our way to dine here again. People are friendly. Pub eats. If the prices fit the experience, I'd increase the stars. $250 for 3 people. For us, the food and experience do not match the cost anymore. read more

My mother and I were one town over in George a day early for a concert at the Gorge and decided to swing by Gard Public House for dinner. We didn't expect such an incredible meal! When our entrees came out, we were met with the same quality and dedication to good food that the appetizer had set us up for. I made reservations for dinner on a Saturday evening expecting it to be busy, but it was pretty calm with just three other tables seated. We were greeted and seated by a lovely young lady, but had what looked to be the manager as our waiter. He was great at first, but then after making eye contact a few times I had to get up and go to the register to ask him for a second cocktail. When the food came the Mac and cheese was great, but the chicken I added had raw pieces. The pizza my friend got had a very dense and doughy yet flat and flavorless crust. Our waiter asked once how the food looked when he brought it to our table, but after that he did not stop by. We had to ask the lovely young lady to get a box, and then go back up to the register a few moments later to ask her to get our check so we could get out of there. The waiter had ignored us quite a bit. It was a disappointment for sure seeing that there were only four tables there including us, yet the service and food was lacking. I am so happy I happened upon their Facebook page!!! This place is adorable and sophisticated all in one. The main restaurant is bright and welcoming, with a winery vibe. But what you really want to know is how was the food, right? Well amazing! I think I found my new regular hangout!!! I don't know how Royal City got so lucky to have this amazing restaurant, but they did, and thankfully we don't live far. So we started with the smoked wings and the empanadas. They were both good, but the star was definitely the wings. Perfectly crisp with a light heat. A couple of us ordered salads, my hubbie had a Caesar, he said the dressing was good. Our favorite was the beet salad, it had goat cheese, the greens where fresh. I will order the beet salad again for sure! For dinner, I had duck confit with red risotto. It was fall apart tender with great flavor. I am a sucker for duck, and this was great! My husband had the special grilled salmon with risotto, beautiful plating and also great flavor. The chanterelle mushrooms were woodsy and a perfect addition. My family had the spaghetti, burger and fries, the steak and the caprese pizza. I tried the steak, it was a beautiful medium rare, and melted in your mouth. I didn't taste the others due to my gluten allergy, but everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal! I almost forgot they brought out a special dessert for our birthday boy. A lemon curd tart with a fresh caramelized peach and homemade ice cream. I took a side trip on my way from Spokane to Seattle to experience one of Washington state newest wine AVA, the Royal Slope. The geographic area east of the Columbia River and south of I-90 is an agricultural mecca for all kinds of produce; apples, lettuce, cantelope, cherries, and of course wine grapes. Our stop included a small restaurant in the hamlet of Royal City and what a surprise to see such a gem out in such a rural environment. Chef Chris is masterful in using the produce of the area to produce a memorable meal; I had the beet salad, Victoria the Caesar. They also offered pizza, burgers, fish, and pulled pork to show the variety. Of course the wine flight was what brought me here and it was delightful and much better than I had experienced so far in Washington, including wine from Yakima and Walla Walla. A wonderful gem in central Washington! Stopped here on our way home from Idaho and we were very impressed. Everything we tried was delicious and fresh. We had pork tacos, a chicken sandwich, salad, a burger, and a chocolate torte for dessert. EVERYTHING was delicious. I would almost drive the 2 hours to go back for those pork tacos. The chocolate torte was what surprised me the most. It was rich, warm, not too sweet, and came with house-made salted maple ice cream that was fantastic! I didn't expect that a place that made such great tacos and fries would also have a kick-ass chocolate torte, but they did! Everything here exceeded my expectations. We were driving through town and stopped in for lunch. We are from the Seattle area and cannot find a restaurant of this quality there! Everything was delicious, organic, sustainably sourced, locally farmed. The beet salad (I added chicken) was amazing, my husband loved the pulled pork tacos in corn tortillas, one daughter got the chicken caesar wrap, the other kids got the chicken sandwich.
