Dropped by for the Eagan Market Fest at the Eagan Community Center (select Wednesdays), but I was a…read morebit early for doors so I decided to go exploring the surrounding park grounds. It's not much in the way of hiking, as the longest path/loop is only a mile long and fully paved with asphalt, but it's got a lot of amenities that would make for an excellent visit during warmer months. This includes a kid's playground, an extensive fitness zone, a splash pad (with toilets and water fountain-- not operating during winter), a bandshell, and a sizable festival grounds. On the other end of the park (near Pilot Knob) there's a gazebo structure with more seasonal restrooms/water fountain, with a multitude of picnic tables, trash/recycling, and grills that would be excellent for outdoor get-togethers. There is parking at both this location and by the splash pad, as well as the massive lot attached to the community center. There's a couple small lakes and plenty of trees, so it's a nice little retreat (even if right across the street is a massive outdoor shopping center...).

Now, they like to work out at the Core Valley area (we call it Ninja Warrior Park), while I walk the lovely trails around the pond area. The band shell has some free performances sometimes. My fav feature is the cute gazebo and bridge next to the pond. A very well thought out park for so many uses, including art fairs, food truck fairs, a weekly farmer's market and even a huge July 4th celebration. The Eagan Community Center building is conveniently located the middle of the park.

To avoid confusion -- this is the Anoka County Grower's Association market that's been around for well over 30 years, not the new indoor market at the Town Square. Today was the first day so there were only 4 vendors and no fruits or veggies yet. There was a baker, a large greenhouse selling various potted plants, a dog treat person, and the president of the association himself...selling organic creams, salves, insect repellents, deodorants, balms, etc. No produce yet. I bought some classic peanut butter treats for my big doggy. And I purchased some homemade strawberry jam for my kid. I also had some great conversations with the vendors. Unfortunately the shoot ran a bit later than expected so by time we arrived here we only had about 45 min to see/do as much a we could. The details & decor were so spot on! I loved it. The staff were so friendly and nice. They were also dressed up as well which was cool. I definitely want to go back just to shop & support the market overall! Meant to grab a jar of the spicy pickles & a few other things I saw but by time we got done exploring they were closing everything. The address leads you to the front of the farm but around the corner there's a bigger parking lot (but you should walk around to front so you don't miss anything!). I'm delighted to have a farmer's market close to home so I don't have to drive into the city for great local produce. Prices are good--maybe a touch higher than the big downtown markets, but the savings in gas can add up--especially if I bike there, as I did a week ago. There's a guy there who sells fresh organic raspberries and jams that are so good they make your eyes roll, a couple women who make vegan and organic soups and hors d'oeuvres that taste great (I took home vegan jalapeño poppers and my kids couldn't tell that they had no dairy) and sometimes a couple of women bring their gelato cart to the market. YUM! I stop by and business seems brisk. Yay!

What makes this market special is the rule that the produce/products must be grown/made within a 100 mile radius. This ensures we have local meats, produce, plants and products. You won't find pineapples or mangos at this market. It is a joy to support these hard working farmers and entrepreneurs. The market space itself is well maintained, clean and offers restrooms. There are no dogs allowed in this market. There is often live music and there are also vendors selling breakfast sandwiches, tacos, Asian eats and everything in between. Being in Lowertown, it's mostly paid street parking. This is a MUST visit!! Saturdays and Sundays only.

I happened to attend on a rainy day in May and was surprised to see dedicated vendors showing up to showcase breads, veggies, flowers, pickles, coffee, kettle corn and even live music. There is abundant parking and lots of room to move between the stands. It never felt crowded (but this might be due to the rain). I was able to purchase all my perennial flowers and it felt good to give back locally. The kettle corn stand even gave me 4 small sample bags for free. Of course I tipped but appreciated his kind gesture. Fun fact: I learned you can freeze kettle corn to keep it stay fresh longer. The more you know!!
