I truly believe that even if we had paid him, the same lack of care, effort, and basic competence would have shown. In six months, he never once went to visit my husband in county jail. The only time he spoke to him was for about five minutes right before court--never enough time to understand the case, prepare, or show real concern. Even worse, I noticed what I believe to be racial bias in how my husband was treated--dismissive, uninterested, and far from the advocate he was supposed to be. If this is how he handles court-appointed cases, I worry for anyone who hires him privately. Everyone deserves fair, thorough, and respectful legal representation. Unfortunately, we didn't get that here.
