Nestled between a bakery and a gourmet wine shop on the same strip of street as Meola Kitchen, I didn't have great expectations for the Garnet Road Foodstore. With such fierce competition so close by, I know I would want to cower like a little baby.
My companion and I came in for Brunch one morning. Our experience started off on rather a difficult language barrier. You know the kind where the people in question are nodding their heads saying 'yes yes' but you know they don't understand a word your saying, so you try to enunciate even further and you just end up sounding like a right prick? Well that's what happened here. The little Asian ladies behind the counter did their best and at least they were friendly and polite.
Like expected, the bacon on my meal which I had asked to be left off the plate turned up like a rather unwanted guest, but my companion ate it anyway so I wasn't too fussed.
My friend had more luck in the meal department, having ordered a homemade chicken, mustard and mushroom pie which he scoffed, and claimed to have thoroughly enjoyed. We took a lemon tart home with us to share, and I must say, I may return just for this sunshine yellow deliciousness! read more
