The address for this "business" is for the Park Ranger district office in Fort Pierre, where you can pick up a map (a must) and get some general information about the parkland. Its shrubby hillsides are home to whitetail and mule deer, while the hundreds of earthen dams provide lush habitat for waterfowl, shorebirds, and fish. Given the right amount of precipitation and sunlight, the spring and summer months of the central South Dakota prairie come alive with wildflowers of different shapes, colors, and sizes. As the spring progresses into summer, native grasses create just as stunning a display as the flowers. I had the opportunity to view the grassland from US-83 between Vivian and Pierre. It's 35 miles and it's just so amazingly peaceful. I pulled off the road a couple of times just to stop and listen to ... nothing. Just the sounds of the wind in the grass and the quiet ticking of a cooling engine. I'm not a camper or a boondocker - I need Internet for work - but I can definitely understand people who will take a tent and a backpack and a full bottle of bug spray and just hike into nowhere. But there is plenty of room between them, so you don't feel like you are on top of each other. The place was completely full. The staff did an excellent job keeping the bathroom clean and stocked. All in all this is a great place to camp! It is a great family place too. Swimming, boating, hiking, fishing. You name it. We will go again if we are back in the area. I would recommend reservations if you are there on a weekend.... Especially a holiday weekend! There are electric and non-electric sites only. No full hookups.

The campsites are spread out so you feel you have privacy for the most part. They have a nice shower room facility that is free. Our family had a blast fishing and enjoying the outdoors. The marina has a nice restaurant and alot of different fun bikes to rent. Definitely stay here, it's reasonable and beautiful! Campground 3 is the best in my opinion because the campsites are right next to the water and there are great shore fishing spots.

When we pulled up, there was only one RV near 15 empty RV spaces and us. Behind our spot, the mighty Missouri River which at this point was behind a dam and a mile wide. Our space had hookups intended for a RV to back-in, but I was not going to a miss an opportunity to sit and look out at the windshield. This campground did not have water or sewer, only electric, which is odd but for two days, it would not be a problem. Voilà, campsite setup! I loved this campground and this location. I would have feel comfortable staying here for two weeks, settling into a slower pace, with a beautiful view. Perhaps in the future, we will stop here for another stay. Would I recommend this park? Absolutely. Would we come back? Absolutely, I am trying to figure out a way to pass through this part of South Dakota again. Informational: We travel in a 36' Class A RV.

The restaurant has great views inside overlooking the bay or sit outside on the deck. This is not fine dining and is not a fast foot joint; after a day on the lake the air-conditioning and food is a great refresher. We have had most items on the menu at some point in time. Our favorites are the burger, fish sandwich, steak (only offered sometimes) and coleslaw.

Ended up trying to sleep with door open and a fan in the doorway. Worried about raccoons,wild cats getting in not to mention bugs. Miserable day and night. For this I paid 262.00 she gave us a 23.00 Breakfast free to compensate.
