The restaurant has great views inside overlooking the bay or sit outside on the deck. This is not fine dining and is not a fast foot joint; after a day on the lake the air-conditioning and food is a great refresher. We have had most items on the menu at some point in time. Our favorites are the burger, fish sandwich, steak (only offered sometimes) and coleslaw.

When we pulled up, there was only one RV near 15 empty RV spaces and us. Behind our spot, the mighty Missouri River which at this point was behind a dam and a mile wide. Our space had hookups intended for a RV to back-in, but I was not going to a miss an opportunity to sit and look out at the windshield. This campground did not have water or sewer, only electric, which is odd but for two days, it would not be a problem. Voilà, campsite setup! I loved this campground and this location. I would have feel comfortable staying here for two weeks, settling into a slower pace, with a beautiful view. Perhaps in the future, we will stop here for another stay. Would I recommend this park? Absolutely. Would we come back? Absolutely, I am trying to figure out a way to pass through this part of South Dakota again. Informational: We travel in a 36' Class A RV.

You can walk along Medicine Creek and watch the sun rise and set over the fields. The Garnos family is actually one of the original settlers of the area and the ranch itself was established in 1890. They are great people who still work the land themselves. Make sure when your there to go see the Lyman County Pioneer Museum and both the settlers memorial and the war memorial. I found it amazing just how much history is documented right there!:) FYI there is also the Medicine Creek Golf Course right next door. Dog friendly, and there are plenty of trails to walk your furry pal on. No cable, but Mitchell does get 3 local channels via antenna, and it's so pretty here you're not going to watch much tv anyway. WARNING (and why this review is only 4 stars): If you're looking to stay here to enjoy the lake, forget it. The lake is pretty gross and full of blue-green algae, so DON'T plan on swimming. Or leting your kids swim. Or letting your dog anywhere near it. If your only interested in the view, the trees, and a nice quiet place to chill out, it's still worth it, IMHO.

There was a list available to see which sites were reserved, though it was a tad confusing because it wasn't in what we thought was a logical order. But we found a site without any neighbors and got set up rather quickly. If I remember right we paid about $30 for our electric post site. The campground was pretty quiet despite being just off the business loop and on the lake during a holiday weekend. The next morning we had to pack up right away, but not before my daughter enjoyed a hot shower in "the cleanest campground shower ever" (she's 14, so picky) and we got ready for the day in the *very* clean bathroom. This was very much appreciated after two weeks camping on BLM land with only a pit toilet available! We spoke briefly with the owner who told us she's managed it for the city for just a couple years and is still working on upgrades, but I thought the bathrooms were great as is. We were very satisfied, and if we could have stayed longer we would have made use of the lake and playground.

Spent three days with extended family spread over two cabins. Very minimalist but comfortable. One…read moreroom had two bunk beds, best described as similar to naval beds with odd dimensions. Mattresses were covered in plastic and measured approximately 30" wide by 72" long by 4" deep. Linens were provided. Second room had a full (NOT queen) bed lifted pretty high. Elderly or disabled persons may need different accommodations to stay in this room because the top of the mattress was at least 36" above the floor. Linens were also provided. The cabin was furnished with all basic kitchen utensils, pots, pans, and dishes for four people. Dish soap was also available. A four burner range with oven, microwave, toaster, and basic fridge/freezer. The air conditioner cooled the main livingroom/kitchen space, but not the bedrooms. There was a wall-mounted flat screen TV that we did not use, so I cannot review it. Bathroom had towels and wash cloths for at least four people. Water pressure was great and the water got plenty hot. The back of the cabin had a sizeable screened porch with a table and four chairs. The porch exited to a small picnic table with a very basic park-style square grill where charcoal or wood could be used to cook. No firepit or fire ring was located near the cabin. Amenities included a nearby pool and horseback riding on select days. Hiking was minimal and limited mostly to mowed paths. Perfect for casual walkers or families with small children.

The cabins have 2-3 bedrooms, A/C, a kitchen, a living area, and a screened-in porch. Other parts of the park teach about the history of the Lewis and Clark Expedition and overlook the confluence of the Niobrara River with the Missouri. There are hiking paths and fishing ponds. The rolling hills and wooded areas make a beautiful setting. Pets are allowed.
