The check-in process was very simple; had to show my ID, insurance card, and fill out a quick form using their iPad. It was super efficient. I was greeted by a nurse (I believe her name was Samantha) and she was so nice and took the time to sit and explain the process. I saw Dr. Davis, who was relaxed, straight to the point, and extremely nice. I ended up having the have the mole removed, but Dr. Davis and Samantha were both very helpful and quick in doing so. I would recommend coming here, for sure. Everyone was welcoming and worked super efficiently. They even scheduled a full body assessment in order to make sure I have no other issues, which proves they care about their patients. I recommend calling ahead to make sure they accept your insurance and to tell them your issue so they know exactly what kind of appointment to put together for you. I know they have an online scheduling system, as well, but I know you can't use it until after your first appointment.

The day of my appointment I was ten minutes late (thanks, rainy Nashville traffic) but the office was very accommodating (I called to let them know that I would be late). Everyone was super friendly and patient, from reception to assistant techs and the physician herself. I felt well informed, respected, and heard during my appointment. I came in with a worrisome mole, which they were able to send off to labs immediately. The procedure was quick, painless, and I was pleased with the communication of aftercare. Every step of the way I was informed about what they were doing, if there would be any additional cost, and there was room for questions. Absolutely horrible experience - avoid this practice at all costs…read more I visited Curcio Dermatology in Nashville for a very minor skin irritation while I was in the U.S. The entire appointment lasted maybe 10 minutes. At check-out I specifically asked about any copay or balance because I live overseas and wanted to settle everything before leaving the country. I was told verbatim, "You're all set, nothing is owed today." Fast forward almost a full year later: my relatives in the U.S. forwarded me a collections notice for a $40 copay plus an additional ~$200 that my insurance had apparently already paid them. When I reached out (politely) to explain that I was told I owed nothing and asked for clarification, the response was immediate hostility. I was bombarded with aggressive emails from their billing person "Amu," complete with threats to send me to collections and damage my credit, even though I no longer live in the United States. It's now obvious what happened: they submitted an inflated or incorrect claim to my insurance, got paid more than they should have, and then tried to double-dip by billing me for the copay a year later when insurance wouldn't cover it retroactively. When I pointed out that I was explicitly told "you're all set" at the visit, they didn't care and just escalated the threats. Had I read the dozens of similar reviews complaining about predatory billing practices, surprise bills months or years later, and outright harassment from their billing department, I never would have stepped foot in this office. The medical care itself was ok (it was literally a 10-minute visit for something trivial), but the billing side is unethical and borderline predatory. Save yourself the headache and go literally anywhere else in Nashville. There are plenty of excellent dermatologists who don't resort to threats and collections scams over $40. Completely unacceptable. I will never return and strongly advise others to steer clear.

So, knowing that a truckload of people arrive in Middle Tennessee every day, I am paying it forward in case one of them are looking for a dermatologist. Online research and asking other physicians led me to Dr. Zwerner. I've been fortunate to have had great dermatologists for the past decade and three cities. I didn't want to screw up my streak. After asking around and being a patient of his, I feel confident that I am in good hands. Beyond being knowledgeable and helpful, Dr. Zwerner is accessible and speaks in lay language so that I always know what's going on. Unlike the other reviewer*, I have never had significant wait times to see the Dr. I check in, lounge in the waiting room for no more than a few minutes and am called back and on my way to service. Dr. Zwerner has always been extremely respectful of my time and he's able to do that by keeping a tight schedule. Despite this, I've never been rushed through an appointment and during my yearly skin checks he's taken a prolonged amount of time to go over everything. When I've had to go in for acute, specific reasons, he's been able to access the issue, diagnose it, explain it to me in a way I can understand, and set up a follow-up to ensure that things resolve in the way they should. I leave my appointments feeling confident in my care and secure in my knowledge. Dermatologists are more than pimple poppers. Find yourself a good one. *And, admittedly, that sucks.
