I have mixed feelings about my move from Asheville back to the Midwest. The quote I received was fair and thorough but then I never heard from the company again unless I contacted them. My actual move window was not narrowed down to the actual date until 12 hours before the moving team arrived. When I contacted Gasperson to ask them about the lack of notice, I was told this was a moving team they hadn't worked with before and threw all the blame on this team. The 2-man team that loaded and unloaded my items was great - efficient, professional and wonderful to work with. I would not work with the office staff at Gasperson again. There was little to no coordination, next to no communication and an unwillingness to take responsibility for the issues that arose. Have never felt this unsupported by a move coordinator. Gasperson moved us from north Asheville to Arden. Kaleb had given an estimate of the cost, but the final bill was considerably less. We had our stuff pretty well organized which make the move go quicker. Matt and the three crewmembers were competent and very considerate. They wrapped our furniture in blankets and plastic wrap to protect them. They reassembled all at the new condo and patiently positioned them. DO NOT TRUST GASPERSON. Audra deleted the insurance cover without advising me. They then lashed an expensive, $9000, bed frame to the OUTSIDE of a moving truck! It got badly damaged. They refused any compensation. They will say I signed a new order, but in truth I trusted what they said and believed the only change was to the weight - why would I cancel $200 of insurance on a $12000 inter state move! And once again, no apology issued. The only point of a non-binding estimate is to trick someone into believing what they were quoted would be reasonably close to their final bill. Imagine getting an estimate for a car repair for $300 then being told your car is ready but you owe $700 and if you do not pay the company will simply keep your car. No wonder moving companies have such terrible reputations being allowed to operate with such an open incentive to legally rip off its customers. read more

My art manufacturing company shipped 3 boxes to a customer using Gasperson as the holding transfer co. Fed Ex shows all 3 delivered, Gasperson states they only received 1 , we have signatures for all 3. Not only were they not helpful, their attitude was horrible. Neither our customer nor my business will ever use them again, if yelp had a lower rating I would have used it. read more

The manager, Sharon, was not the nicest of people. Not sure which word best describes it-- snotty or snooty. They worked 1 1/2 hours and charged over $1100. They opened all of our furniture to inspect it. We did not want them to do this but they did. They said they had to in case it was damaged. We told them we understood but we wanted it all re-wrapped for storage. Every piece of that furniture was received unwrapped and the original packaging was thrown away. When we complained, we were handed a spool of Saran Wrap. Never again. I would give 1 star but the men who actually did the work did a fine job of moving the furniture. The problem is in the poor way we were treated by the management. A promise was made to cover this very expensive furniture and it certainly was not kept. I cannot recommend. read more

By far the worst moving experience I've had. We moved from North Carolina to Pennsylvania and the damage to our furniture was staggering. The settlement process is laughable, and the check we received was about 1/10 of the amount of the loss incurred. Don't use them. read more

I have waited to write this review to give Gasperson a chance to make the problems with our loading right. Their operation manager Audra Godfrey has not only refused to make it right, but she has spoken (written) with disrespect in her communications. This is not a company which puts the customer first; it is clear that when the service is inferior, the customer is wrong. I would never use them again. If you are lucky and get good loaders, you may be happy with their service; if not, you will be out of luck. read more

Billy, Jackson and Cody (mover employees) were great. Worked constant and did a good job. Aubrey, office person, did terrible. She not only listened to the customer, who said use the same equipment that was used a year and a half ago by Gasperson, but sent a truck so big, it tore limbs off of our huge pine tree, and could not turn around. Thus I had to reschedule. I slept on the floor and ate fast food for two weeks because everything was packed and ready for the move. On the reschedule, she sent a proper truck and a wee little small truck. Not enough. Just listen. Then she charged another $150.00 after the authorization had been signed and tallied by her employee. We used them for a recent move from Asheville after hearing positive things and seeing Yelp reviews. Unfortunately, I cannot give them a good rating. In my opinion, the customer service delivered by the office staff was extremely poor. And, in my experience, Gasperson Moving is not very good at communicating with their customers. Our first appointment for (paid) packing was cancelled on the day it was scheduled to happen by phone - with a claim by the operations manager that she had left a voicemail message the night before -- this was untrue. There was no record of any call from Gasperson. We continued to be polite and patient. The packers showed up the next day and were very nice, efficient guys, but the office puts the whole operation to shame. Our long distance move (12 hours away) could have gone much more smoothly. Problems with broken promises by the driver led me to call the office on a Saturday morning, only to learn that they do not answer calls after hours or on weekends! This was so frustrating. Their response 2 days later: take your complaint to North American Van Lines. My response: "But, don't you want to know if things go poorly?" I even emailed the president of the company -- no response. There is no place to go if you have a problem off hours or on a Saturday and want to contact them. And that was not clear when I hired them. Instead, you get switched to a call center in Indiana somewhere and they have no contact information for Gasperson's staff other than the same numbers that we had. I also tried emailing people there, asking for a quick call. No answers came until Monday, and then it was horrible! When I wrote a complaint via email on Monday I got a nasty attitude and excuses in the reply from the operations manager, Audra. I called later and asked to speak to the owner, Tom H. She answered. He was not in and after questioning, I told her that I was calling to complain about the poor service. I got an earful of her yelling her excuses. She actually hung up on me when I called out her unprofessional behavior. I have moved many times and never had a problem. So, based on our experience, I'd say go elsewhere if you need a local mover in Asheville, NC or long distance. We remain disappointed. read more

Run, don't walk away from using this company. They came recommended from our realtor and unfortunately we did not do our due diligence in researching other moving companies. They sent a person out to preview the items to be moved, and knew the scope going in. (1) On move day, they called and advised they were running late...showed up 45 minutes late (2) Showed up with the the wrong size truck...said that was the only size they had available to them (3) Showed up with insufficient amount of moving blankets...one man had to take one truck to get more and was gone over an hour. (4) They broke a table leg, and said it was "booby-trapped." (5) Showed up with no lunch...I bought them food. (6) Because they had a smaller truck, had to leave a ramp to be picked up the next day...we closed on the house the next morning. (7) They left without taking a front porch wrought iron bench (no room)...didn't even tell us. Ended up having to take it ourselves in a SUV (late at night). Reminded them several times about the empty aquarium...didn't acknowledge they left it. (8) Crew leader and crew member smoked cigarettes outside and left the butts on the driveway for me to pick up. (9) Truck(s) leaked oil on driveway...crew leader said they would come back and clean it...didn't happen (10) When backing a truck in, badly damaged several shrubs (11) Upon moving in, damaged walls in new house (12) Several items, including high end furniture pieces, were damaged...some due I'm sure to having to jam pieces in the "too small" truck. (13) When called the company to get walls fixed, and furniture repaired, repeatedly put us off. (14) Eventually showed up (4 weeks later) and spackled the walls...said he'd come back and paint. Still waiting. (15) Took a Windsor chair to repair (2 weeks ago) and haven't heard back. (16) Paid extra for insurance...requested to file an insurance claim for damaged furniture...was told only the General Manager could resolve...oh yeah, he happens to be in Croatia for the next two weeks. (17) Would not provide information and steps to file a claim. We have had good movers in the past, and this was a horrible experience. read more

In September 2018, we used gasperson to move us from Asheville to Charleston, SC. My complaint is not with the actual movers. They did a good job. My complaint is with the company's business manager. I made a single claim for a filing cabinet, which had been damaged during the move. After asking me not to report this to North American Van Lines, we negotiated a settlement of $50, which she promptly sent me a check in December. The check bounced. I contacted her immediately. She replied another check would be in the mail in few days. It's February 17, 2019 and I have yet to receive it. I have called several times and left messages. No return call. If I had given them a bad check and refused to honor it, I imagine they would have taken me to court. To me this is dishonest; a red flag that something is not going well with this business. I have used Gasperson Moving four times in the past five and a half years -- two times for my own household, and twice for my mother. Each time I was so relieved at how professional, polite and efficient everyone was. Even my mother was super pleased. Communications were great and the guys who did all of our moves have been terrific. Having had a terrible experience moving from the Washington DC area to Asheville (with a Virginia-based mover), I'm delighted to have discovered Gasperson. Highly recommended. read more

Things thrown in boxes (shoes, clothes, purses, etc.) not wrapped or packed in a straight line (I pack better than they did and I am not a "professional" as they claim to be) but they take the time to DOUBLE wrap a pack of crayons from the Dollar Store. Did NOT pack every thing we told them to pack. Left things we will have to go back and pick up ourselves. Also made a LARGE gouge/scratch in our wood floor (Hall). If you do not care about your items then be my guest and hire them. The guys were friendly but did not listen to direction very well. NEVER AGAIN!!!!! (FYI-Spouse picked this Moving Co.). Update: as of September 2nd we are going back and forth trying to get our floor repaired. The office person (Marti) wants to send her Warehouse Manager up on a weekday (when we have to work) to look at the floor. She has not been cooperative about a Saturday appointment in regards to this. She explained they have to wrap crayons so they will not melt. I explained I do not care about crayons but I do CARE about my shoes! If you are moving do not pick this company. You have been warned. It is Sept. 9th and I have not heard from the Warehouse manager regarding the repair on our floor. I have had to email 3-4 times to get the claim form (Marti). They charged us $4,700 (man hours maybe 20, 25-30 pieces of furniture, 20-25 boxes, outdoor furniture and a grill, a tool case) and round trip was 120-130 miles. All they care about is getting your money. They do not care about Customer Service or if they damage your property. Please use another moving company and avoid major problems. As of Sept. 13 have not heard from the person who was supposed to "fix" the floor. I have notified Marti that we will contact our attorney and sue for more than floor repair and shoe damage. PLEASE use another moving company. It is stressful enough to have to move-you do not want to clean up a mess the moving "professionals" make. FYI: November 19th-we had to PAY for our wood floor to be repaired (and call and schedule for a floor person to make the repair). I received no cooperation with the repair or for my shoe damage. I know Gasperson M&S Customer Service is a joke-they act like the customer is wrong and they are the only one that is right!! I have told friends, co-workers, family to NEVER use Gasperson M&S. You are better off moving your items and using a U-Haul. read more

We were not please with our moving experience. One mahogany bedside table was really scratched up. We were not allowed to see it. Gasperson got someone to refinish it but it was not done properly. The other one had a shiny finish. The one they worked on did not. Also, they lost a Longeberger basket trash can that was a retired basket. They wanted an invoice (I have had it 15 years) and paid $250 for it. Because it is retired, it would be worth much more. Obviously I did not have a receipt. They refused to reimburse for the loss of the basket. Two men came to deliver the furniture. One gentleman was very nice. The other one was very rude to the other delivery person. It got so bad that my husband made him leave. The delivery was very late. Around 10:00 p.m. and they were supposed to be there by 5:00 p.m. They had to deliver our things from one apartment to the other in the same complex. The reason is was so late was that Gasperson Moving was hired to deliver all of the voting booths in Buncombe County that day. The person setting up the delivery in the office did not notice this and called to see if we could change dates 2 days before the move. Buncombe County hired them to make this move and of course it would take a long time. How could the office book us on the same day?? We could not change dates because it was an apartment and the lease was only through that date. When my son was in high school and in college (1999-2001), he worked for Gasperson Moving during the summer months and he loved it and the people he worked with. We have always used Gasperson Moving for all our moving (8 times over the years). This was when Tom Hunnicutt first started his business and I think he only had about 3 trucks. This organization and my experience was horrid. A zero star rating would be more appropriate. The helped me move a 2500 square ft. home 2 months ago and I needed help with another. I was waiting on a quote and exact day for the move at the end of the month, and called and was told they would get it that day, a week later, another call...this time it was to be put directly on the owners desk and I would be called back that afternoon. A week later (today), I called again and was told they emailed me (instead of calling), and now they can't help me. I'm closing and have to be moved out of my house in 10 days, have called every moving company in town and I will be left with trying to find people to help and a U-Haul. Horrible customer service and I would not recommend this company to anyone. They had my correct Email but sent some sort of message to a different email which should have been returned. Their excuse was, "we're real busy, we're quoting 5-6 moves a day, this is our busy season and we can't help you....sorry." It truly is sorry especially since I started on this weeks ago. They need to have proper staffing and good customer service. And the email they claimed to have sent to me was returned as "undeliverable" by all 3 of my email accounts and they said they didn't get that notification. Unbelievable. Now I have a week to move a home alone since they are walking away. Just awful and no remorse over the phone. read more

God forbid you should have a change of plans. We were originally bid almost 2k for a move 2 hrs away. Our purchase fell through and we wound up staying in the same town and right down the street from Gasperson. Gasperson refused to budge on their price and I also had to deal with the snotty manager Sharron. The owner was no better. After I balked at the price, which should have been half of what was charged, Sharon called the workers on site and told them to hold everything in the truck until they were paid. This company ripped me off and then held my property hostage. They would not move off their price 1 penny. Awful company with terrible customer service. I would never waste another cent on this company and discourage anybody else from throwing their hard earned cash away to these thieves. read more
