One of the finest meals of my life on a cold winter night. Every Austrian city that relies on tourism has a selection of various restaurants serving the same (nearly identical!) selection of traditional Austrian and Tyrolean favorites. You know the menu before you even see it. Anich is, in my opinion, the very best of them all. Be aware that the food is HEAVY and served in large portions. If you order one of the classic popular meat dishes (roast pork, schnitzel, goulash, etc) you should either be very hungry, prepared to share, or willing to ask for a takeout box. It's a ton of food and it's all stellar. I'm trying and failing to think of something we ordered there that was less than delicious and I can't. The service was not especially fast but I don't mark this kind of restaurant down for that because the meal is supposed to be a slow one. The local wine selection is excellent as is the beer. During a very crowded time you may be asked to share a large table with strangers or so we heard, but in my visits I never saw this happen. It was winter. Summer may be a different story. The building is lovely as are the several dining rooms. If you're looking for a light meal go elsewhere. If you want to be stuffed with dumplings, meat, gravy, and all that great stuff don't go elsewhere. read more

Found this place on yelp..had a lot of good reviews with pictures. I wanted a snitzel so this was the place. Its on a corner with a big " no dogs allowed" sign on the door..ha ha, good for them. The waiter spoke perfect english and super nice. I had the snitzel, and my wife had the cheese snitzel. Super, super good. The place was big but pretty quiet inside. I had a beer with lemonade mix..also good. And for desert, apple strudel. Big meal with desert and drinks, the tab came out to 52 euros..cheap by u.s. standards. Authentic Austrian food prepared with care! I had the potato pancakes with mushrooms and it was delicious! Friend had Cordon Blue, I had a bite and it was very, very good! We decided to try Gasthaus Anich even though it was a short walk out of the old town and the tourist shopping area. The building looked more like an old bank than a restaurant so we weren't sure as we approached it. Once inside we were pleasantly greeted and shown to a table even though we did not have reservations. The interior was a bit Austrian, but a 1990's vibe mixed in...not overly Bavarian or Tyrolian character. Menu features classic German / Austrian dishes. Although it sounds more French than Austrian, I really enjoyed my hearty serving of chicken cordon bleu, which is chicken schnitzel with ham and cheese stuffed inside. It was served with boiled potatoes in a light butter and herb sauce which I really enjoyed. The clientele seemed to be a mix of locals and tourists, and all were well treated as if they were regulars. I recommend Gasthaus Anich! read more

On our last night in Austria, we chose Gasthaus Anich. It did not disappoint. SEHR GUT! I had the veal wienerschnitzel with potato salad. Amazing. My wife had a roast beef dish with green beans(diced bacon on top) and sliced steamed parsley potatoes. Just incredible. read more

The pancake soup sounds kind of strange but wow was it amazing!! I ordered the blood sausage entree and it was... different. I thought it was going to come out as a sausage but it was presented as more like a corned beef hash. It was interestingly tasty but I wouldn't order it again. The sauerkraut was good! Loved it. Here for one night only. Read the reviews and decided to go. Teenage boys who are simple, picky eaters, loved their roasted beef with fried onions. My chicken cordon bleu, wife's Wiener schnitzel pork and older son's boiled beef were all excellent. The kids asked for a second order of the dumplings. 5 stars here as others have mentioned. I'm a fan of the Tirol and this is close as you'll get without driving down to one of the skiing areas. Typical Austrian fare, cheap prices, great quality food. I went with the goulash soup and Tyrol gröstl and could barely finish a third of it. Was just that much and I love this food. Yes, it was super heavy. But splurge. You'll sleep better for it. Leaving a 5 star review is the easiest thing I've ever done ! The Gasthaus Anich came up as the best restaurant in Innsbruck on Yelp so we had to walk here on our only night in town! We were seated with an Austrian couple that were finishing g up their meal. We were hell bent on trying the Weinershnitzel but we took the advice of the couple and got the fried chicken with bones still in. It was delicious. It's called Weiner something not schnitzel. Comes with a potatoe salad which is way different than traditional American potatoe salad. Very sweet and cold. Delicious. The apple strudel is to die for. Btw Mario is the crazy man that took care of us. Just listening to him was worth the price of admission. Finished up with their famous Apple strudel which was so good I almost chewed my fingers off by mistake when it was gone. Thank you to Mario. So at 17:00 all the museums and things were closing or closed, and since my bus didn't leave until 19:30, I decided to turn to the Yelp to find a place to eat some Tyrolean food. Decided on this place... Which was for some reason empty at the time, I still don't know why, considering my experience. Ordered the Grostl, expecting a few pieces of cut potatoes and meat. What I got was enough food to feed two of me... And I can eat, a lot. This means if you have three people who are not big eaters, this is more than enough. This dish was extremely well balanced. The proportions of potato to meat to bacon were excellent. The dish was well seasoned, but not over salted. The potatoes gently brown and crispy. Fried egg on the top was so a lovely touch. The salad that came with was also large and pretty good. It was not super special by itself, it was just an excellent compliment to a dish loaded with carbs and protein. Not over dressed, refreshing, and the tiny pieces of bacon inside did not hurt whatsoever. Location was clean, service was nice and efficient. Nice place on Anichstr., close to the center of the town. We arrived here for a late lunch (at 16:30) but apparently they're open from 18:00 and on. So we went around a little to pass the time and arrived back at around 19:30, the place was not too crowded and we got a nice table. The menu is pretty small but on the first page they say they can also prepare costume dishes if you wish so. For some reason I was not too hungry so I took a goulash soup. We started with some beers that were served rather quick, had a Radler which was cold and tasted fresh. We cheered and enjoyed a little chit chat and the food was served after a short waiting time. My soup was a bit small if you're hungry but filled me up just right, I wasn't too hungry and it was the perfect amount, it was also served with a bun. The taste was spectacular! Good flavor, salted in the right amount and had chunks of beef and potato cubes inside. I've also tried my friend's schnitzel (out of turkey, not on the menu but made upon request) - it was fresh, crispy and super tasty too! The waitress had a bit of an attitude problem but I guess it's because we had some trouble decide what we want, she also seemed not too happy that some of us just ordered soups and not main dishes, but it's not her job to decide what's right for me to eat :) The price is very reasonable (my soup was 4 euros) - recommended! read more

I've eaten here several times over the past 10-15 years on trips to Innsbruck. This evening wad the latest. If you are hungry, like good authentic Tirolean fare, just outside of old town, this is the place. Real locals eat here, few tourists, is a classic, authentic, and fast-disappearing setting. Cheap, good, a lot, and crowded. That's how I would explain it here. Seams to be a traditional place to go with many locals. I tried a few times to get in before there was finally a place for me on my last night in Innsbruck. I tried the fried chicken. If you are looking for authentic Austrian/German food, this is the closest you will find with a wonderful atmosphere in Innsbruck. The potato pancakes with a mushroom cheese sauce was the most flavorful dish I have had in this region of the world yet. I had the Vienna Schnitzel (Weinerschnitzel) & Hash Browns with Mushroom Ragout (described in another review as potato pancakes). It was all great as expected & probably too much food for one person. The wine selection wasn't great but the red I tried was good. It was served chilled. This isn't my preference but fairly common in Europe. I tried once to explain this to a waiter in Paris & he just stared at me. I just let it go and enjoy nowadays. They had an English menu but the waiter didn't speak English. We were able to communicate thru pointing, nodding & smiling though and service was otherwise good. read more

I'm literally so sad about my experience at this place. I'm visiting Innsbruck for a study abroad and I will want some authentic Austrian food. Based on the reviews, I thought I came to the right place. Unfortunately, I don't speak German and when I walked in, an older, blonde, waitress came up to us and I said hi and out 3 fingers up after to signal that we were 3 people. The waitress continued to talk to us in German and I said sorry we only speak English. It's my second day in Austria and I'm honestly lost and trying my best. The moment I said the word English, the waitress put the menus away and waved us towards the door. I couldn't believe it, I was so shocked at the fact that happened. I honestly still can't believe it. The only English words she said were "go next door". I don't think I did anything to offend her and I try to be so nice. I hope that I can try this place another day and update this review, but right now, I'm very sad and disappointed. read more
