But what I do know is that Pfarrwirt is a really great place to eat. It hasn't changed much since I ate here as a kid. Of course their specialty is superbly prepared Austrian cuisine and fine Austrian wines. I began a meal here with a totally awesome appetizer of Butter Schnitzerl accompanying a potato & vogerl salad adorned with glazed veggies. Totally tasty! The main course was a Spanferkelstelze served with potato laibchen and pumpkin slaw. The pumpkin slaw I can especially tell you is amazing! I had no room for desert. Service was fine....the place was filled....and everyone seemed happy. If Pfarrwirt was good enough for Beethoven, it is good enough for me! Pfarrwirt is one of the best restaurants in Vienna.

We sat down and the waitress brought us translated menus in English, which was super helpful in deciding what to eat. My sister got the beef soup with 2 dumplings. It came with some large slices of carrots. The soup was light and delicious. I loved the combination with the carrots. I've never had Viennese food, but that was some good soup. I ordered the schnitzel and mixed for about 16.50 Euro. It was a little more than I wanted to spend, but the portions were huge. I couldn't finish the schnitzel. The mixed salad was good. It had carrots, cucumbers, potatoes, and sauerkraut. It had good flavor to it and I finished most of it. My sister ordered the beef goulash that came with potatoes. It was a pretty large portion as well that she couldn't quite finish it. I had to try the rolled pancake with apricot jam for dessert. You could order it with hot chocolate instead of jam as well. It was fresh made, warm, and covered in powdered sugar. It melted in my mouth. That apricot jam was heaven. Even though I was full, I ate most of it. It was that good. I didn't mind this place at all. They have free wifi for 180 minutes as well! I was a little surprised to learn they didn't take card, only Euros. Especially since their food isn't that cheap. If I'm ever in the area again, I wouldn't mind going back for that rolled pancake!

To make a long story short the waiter that we asked to be served saw that my wife had sneakers on and declined to seat us, our complaint is as simple as that. The stupid act of one waiter turned us off completely off and in fact the waiter said they only had one table in the corner available for dinner when the entire inside was 95 per cent empty. The goulash here defies that principle. It is unbelievable! Get it with the sliced dumpling. It was the recommended dish and I was told the cook's specialty. No word of a lie, it was sublime. Add a few slices of light bread to soak up the remaining gravy and there's dessert. Top it off with a delicious hand crafted beer and great service and you have a must do dining experience if you are ever in Vienna. I can't recommend this enough.

I got the chicken in the smaller portion and it also came with a pickled salad (cucumber and potatoes). The smaller portion still looked pretty big. I always thought it was weird that restaurants charge for tap water and it's the same price as if you get a beer or soft drink, so might as well get a beer. The alcohol levels aren't as strong as in America either. Overal the meal was really good and service was fast. We've been lucky and most places speak English.
