Upon recent softening of the COVID-19 restrictions, we decided to resume our Friday outing group. One of the members suggested we try Colmberg restaurant. We were not disappointed. Since the weather is getting better, both indoor restaurant seating and outdoor biergarten are available. For lunch, reservations are not required. I'd suggest to make reservations if you're interested eating dinner, though. What a delightful dining experience we enjoyed together. I was thinking this would be another very casual dining for lunch as we are accustomed, but instead we were treated like dukes and duchess. Upon entering the hotel-restaurant entrance, we were greeted cheerfully and directed to the dining area. Since we were a group of five, they seated us in a corner table with bench seating and chairs. It was very roomy and nice with wall deco with hunting motif. I thought the menu was substantial offering some fancy Franconian dishes. One unique dish I noticed was venison. I haven't tried any venison since I arrived in Germany, and I jumped on this opportunity. It was really great. The fine red wine sauce and mushroom sauce were very tasty. Klößen (potato dumplings) were very good with the sauce. The rest of our group enjoyed our meal very much except perhaps the one who had salad with fried chicken. It lacked typical Franconian seasoned vegetables underneath the heap of lettuce leaves. Mango chutney was very sweet, perhaps too sweet. Overall, great dining experience with great service. It ended up about 17€ per person.

The restaurant is in a castle that was renovated into a hotel and it has so much art and history on display. During the summer the courtyard seating is so beautiful and you can enjoy the extended twilight hours. This hotel also allows dogs, as do most places in Germany. The prices are a little high but you get really good quality food and service. The only downside is the parking, which can be very tight. I definitely recommend the Schnitzel and the Burgherrenspiess which is a beef skewer. Guten Appetit!

I don't think there are more than a dozen rooms, and there are only three levels with no elevator. Not that any of that is a bad thing, I just want to make sure you know what to expect. You could actually consider the small size of the hotel to be a good thing, since it really helps set the mood for staying in the quaint town of Rothenburg. Walking into our room, it had a level of comfort and antiquity that felt like you were maybe visiting Grandma, instead of staying at the Four Seasons - both will take care of you with much comfort and indulgence, but there's definitely a huge difference between the two. Despite the antique feel of the room, it was very comfortable, and the bathroom struck me as surprisingly modern. The staff was super friendly and helpful, above and beyond in my opinion. It was also quite a good location in the old town of Rothenburg. I also appreciated their free wi-fi access!

The 5 stars are for the lovely woman that seems to own the place as well as the breakfast that is second to none! Never got to try the restaurant as each hotels restaurant seems to have one or two days off each week when they are closed.
