Wirtshaus am Bavariapark was the other beer garden our Airbnb host suggested so we decided to try…read moreit for lunch. Sadly, it didn't live up to our expectations. It's by the Deutsches Museum Verkehrszentrum.
We dropped in on a Friday afternoon (around 12:45pm). It was a tad nippy outside so all the sunny spots in the beer garden were full. We decided to sit inside to keep warm. Our waitress was very sweet and helpful.
They brought us English menus but the "business lunch" specials were only in German. The regular menu is huge with cèpes, roasting trays to share (sadly only available for parties of 6 or more), breakfast, Bavarian snacks and starters, soups, tarte flambé, salads, local dish, alps beef, Bavarian classics and desserts.
- Shandy (radler) (€3,80 for 0,50L) - this was the first radler we had where it tasted more beer like than radler. Okay but nothing special.
- Business lunch (€12,80) - came with a daily soup, daily special and coffee. The soup had two small white sausages in it. Tasty broth but slightly salty. Sausages were good. Coffee was above average. The first special was a catfish with roasted potatoes and vegetables. The best thing on this plate was the ratatouille vegetables; good variety of peppers, zucchini, onion and eggplant in a tomato sauce. The catfish was disappointingly bland and overcooked.
- Business lunch #2 (€12,80) - we wanted to order the other special (€8,00) but our waitress misunderstand. Oh well. The pork in a creamy mushroom sauce with butter spätzle was severely underwhelming. Pork was a large portion but again dry and overcooked. Even the mushroom sauce was bland and mushrooms themselves lacked a satisfying bite. You could taste the butter in the spätzle but that was it. Overall disappointing.
Food was barely passable. WaB seems better suited for drinks. Not one of the beer gardens we'd come back.
