The menu is mostly traditional German food but does have some lighter options. I had a fantastic side salad with my meal - the Pork Knuckle, which I was really excited to try and wanted to order at least once on our trip. This was the only time I tried the dish, but it was delicious; the outside was crispy and the inside was meaty. I would highly recommend this, and the dumplings that came on the side were good too. My other two dining companions ordered duck, which was also excellent. Wirtshaus was a pleasant dinner in a cozy atmosphere and traditional German food. Do yourself a favor and make a reservation through Open Table.

The photos really speak for themselves. Service was the biggest issue. We repeatedly tried to get someone's attention to place our order, but the servers seemed to avoid eye contact and kept waiting for someone else to help us. Even getting the check was a struggle--we eventually had to get up and go to a counter ourselves. It felt like the staff had little interest in actually serving the customers. The atmosphere itself has the traditional Bavarian beer hall feel, but unfortunately, the poor food, disappointing beer pour, and especially the terrible service completely overshadowed it. I really wanted to like this place, but based on our experience, there are much better beer halls and beer gardens in Munich.

Highly recommend getting the weissbier at any and all restaurants as it is the stronger and more flavorful selection. Later in the evening a younger girl asked us if we needed anything and spoke English, she also helped us with ordering other drinks and even called us a cab since we had no service to use Uber. I wish she was our original server and was a little annoyed he did not even ask her to help us in the first place. He also did not give me my change trying to take advantage of the fact that Americans tip, and in Germany the tip is included. I didn't want to make a big deal over 5 more euros but pretty rude. This would be the main reason for only 3 stars. Other than that it was a cool experience and beautiful beer garden for outside seating.

The servers are dressed in traditional German clothes which is a very cool touch. Everyone I spoke to also spoke English. I ordered the schnitzel and whichever beer they recommended with it. I ordered the charcuterie board and it had a couple of hummus scoops and a beef stick and this scoop of stuff that was way too rich for me with pieces of butter in it, but the Germans love it. The pretzels that came with it were great and the cream cheese scoop went perfectly on the pretzel. One of the best meals in Munich, give it a try.

The next room to the right was half full, that is where we ended up having dinner. The room beyond that was empty. Waitress was good natured and after testing the communication channels with German switch to English and brought us a corresponding menu. Food was very nicely prepared. We later discovered that the kitchen closed at 10pm, so we missed out on dessert. We appeared to be the last to leave when they were closing up around 11pm. Everyone said goodbye. Will definitely be back next time I'm in the area for the food, atmosphere, and wait staff.
