I've been a patient of Gastroenterology Associates of Fredericksburg for nearly 15 years. The GI doctor I was seeing retired in 2025. The Physician Assistant who handled most of my appointments is still there. Lately I've been experiencing some concerning digestive issues and called to make an appointment to consult with that PA. I was treated like a new patient and told no appointments were available and to call back at the end of August when the next appointment block opens up because my "first appointment" had to be with a doctor. Don't know why I can't see the PA who should then be able to assign me to a new doctor at an office where I've been a patient for close to 15 years. Then, patient came in 30 minutes after my husband's appointment and they took her back before my husband. Never said doctor was running late. Just left my 83 yo husband sitting. Do not go to dr dedecular on a power trip over his position does not listen to any type of concern you have, swear up and down he knows whats going on when he really dosent. Dosent take anything you say seriously, dosent even care about the patients asked for a colonoscopy and he said its not worth the risk (what risk is there for colonoscopy) when a endo dosent look at your full stomach. Just dont want to do his job. was there for nausea and he thought i was there for heartburn didnt even read my endoscopy prodecure to me was there to look at my stomach not my throat abd all he says is your throat passage is not narrowing or swollen have no idea why hes there. Unfortunately, from the office staff to the doctor I chose, unprofessional and absolutely unprepared for my procedure. I had to return for a second procedure (at the hospital) because the doctor "wasn't familiar with the specific scope". This was something I discussed in the office visit and called in advance to be sure we could use the scope. one procedure was enough time and money so a second was was not cool at all. All of the issues most likely stem from a management issue. But, any doctor should be expected to review charts prior to the procedure. Office staff was consistently rude and unwelcoming. read more

I called trying to find out if they had availability for an ERCP and they told me that had plenty of availability through the whole week and to come in and they can schedule me. I get in there, pay my $50 and then are told they can only do them on Fridays at 11:00. I cannot do fridays, as I do not have someone to be with me, so they told me they can't schedule anything except on fridays. Liars!!!!! all they care about is getting in as many people for exams so they can bill bill bill. They care nothing about patients except their wallet. read more

I had a procedure done by Dr. Detrane a few years ago, and afterwards, he never came to see me in the recovery room and explain what was found. My wife was there and confirmed he never showed up. A nurse explained the photos to me, and the prescriptions, but I never heard from the Doctor. I am convinced that the gastro problems I experienced after that are related to whatever Dr. Detrane did while I was unconscious. I had never had gastro problems before, and started having them only after I had seen him for a Colonoscopy. I heard some things from them while I was half awake that alarmed me, yet I never pursued the issue, which I regret. I should have gotten a real and second opinion. In a separate incident months later, I went to the ER with extreme gastro pains. I was seen by Dr. Lee and another female physician. They explained that Dr. Detrane was coming to see me, and I (in tears) refused to be seen by him. I explained what had happened last time Dr. Detrane had been my attending physician. Miraculously, Dr. Detrane called me AFTER I was released. I didnt answer as I was away from the phone, but returned the call later, to which he never answered or called back. I am currently in continuous Gastro pain, and was given a referral to another Doctor by Tricare. The appointment was so far away that I asked for a new referral, to which they sent me to GAF, again. I could have refused to be seen by these uncaring people, but since its been a few years, and I am in pain, I decided to give them another try, but again refuse tto be seen by Dr Detrane (I use the term loosely (they are a money machine). In any case, I called several times and got a voicemail. I left all the requested contact information, a week ago, and have not received a return phone call. It seems the more things change, the more they remain the same. GAF simply does NOT care about patients, just that you have insurance. Now, I am once again AFRAID to be seen by them, and will ask Tricare to find me someone else, someone competent, who Gives A F**k (GAF). I had an appointment for 1:45. I showed up early, did my paperwork and sat to wait. And Wait I did. I waited 30 minutes while all other patients in the area had gone back and some had left the office. So I asked the receptionist what the holdup was. I was told, "We cant seem to find your provider in building...when do you need to leave by?" I responded that I needed to leave by 3PM. This was for a 1:45 appointment...and It was at the time 2:15. The receptionist asked me to hold on while she went to find out what was going on. 5 Minutes later she asked me to come to the front desk and apologized that my appointment was not going to happen. I drove 30 minutes from N. Stafford to sit and wait 30 minutes for an appointment that either A) THEY KNEW was NOT going to happen or B) felt they could make me sit and wait until the provider deigned to see me on his own time table without regard to MINE. I will NOT be rescheduling with them. The place feels like an assembly line and they don't care if they make you wait knowing your doctor has gone MIA. So unprofessional. read more

My elderly parent struggled to get to the center for a blood draw. It is about all she can do to get in the car and go for a blood draw. She will have to rest up for at least a day or two afterwards. Rather than take the blood as requested they told her she could do it next time when she drops off other things. Obviously anyone could drop things off, but the frail woman who needed blood drawn was present after working very hard to get there. Extremely insensitive, and obvious lack of concern for the elderly. read more

a lot of waiting: "you're number 7 in queue . . . waiting to be connected" that means a lot of waiting and waiting and if you need to reschedule a procedure or need to talk to a nurse for lab results then you wait even more and more. If you leave a message, the nurse may call you back and if you miss her/his call then you have to call the nurse back and then you repeat the cycle of waiting and waiting . . . . read more

In an earlier post I rambled on about my dissatisfaction regarding the lab fees and appointment scheduling. I am pleased to report that the Practice Administrator immediately responded and I am a fan of the GAF practice again. I should clarify that I did not receive a bill for lab fees but only an EOB that sent me into a tizzy. The Practice Administrator explained that the lab does not bill and I would not be responsible for the balance insurance did not cover. With regards to my appointment scheduling, I learned that GAF office never received my request as the patient portal did not generate a patient appointment request. Following my post, GAF made a true effort to contact me; the Practice Administrator sent an email and a nurse left two messages to set up an appointment. I look forward to my next visit with the GAF team and am delighted that I will remain a content patient. read more

Do NOT contact or ever consider seeing Dr. Menon. She was absolutely useless as a physician. I went to her for help and answers to my on going gastro issues. She ran some expensive tests, and then NEVER contacted me with answers or help. All my phone messages and emails were unanswered by her. The office then has the nerve to charge me 20.00 for my records so I can find another physician who will take the time to help. They care about billing insurance companies for quick payment, but didn't give a damn about patient care. STAY AWAY FROM THIS DR.! read more

As a returning customer this practice insisted on another "consultation" before scheduling my repeat colonoscopy procedure. Totally unnecessary. After three telephone conversations all required information had been exchanged and the only thing left to do was schedule the procedure. This "consultation" was nothing more than a thinly veiled effort to charge me more fees. In this pandemic era where medical and financial resources are under severe stress, this is unconscionable. The front offeristaff lied by saying "it is required for insurance purposes" and it is not - especially for a returning patient. I strongly suggest taking your business elsewhere. read more

Dr. Radha V. Menon, MD: Thanks to Dr. Menon, I was scared because my Anemia Deficiency keep going critical and no one could find where my blood was going. Dr. Love sent me to her and that is the best thing that could of happen. She took her time gave me a upper and lower GI and sent me to imaging after find things to be fixed. This is my follow-up to Dr. Wong of Gastroenterology Associates of Fredericksburg. The long winded response speaks for itself and does nothing to rectify the underlying problem. Two things are known for sure: 1) Dr. Wong wrote me a July 11th letter admitting that he had not reviewed my Cat Scan prior to the procedure. 2) Dr. Wong sent me a $30 check after his admission; presumably a form of reimbursement for cancelling the procedure. How many medical doctors do members of the public know that returns money to patients? It's my opinion Dr. Wong operates a patient churning, high volume operation generating millions of dollars. Let's see if Medicare initiates an investigation of this medical practice paradigm. read more

The PA & doctor I saw were pleasant enough for the most part, but the doctor seemed rather annoyed that I could not remember exact details of a diagnosis of a non-GI condition from 25+ years ago. It was almost 3 decades ago for heaven's sake! Although I stated clearly during to both the PA and the Dr that I did not have any heartburn or acid reflux, I was given a Rx for an OTC medicine to help "my heartburn". Uh, yeah, that was never, ever a problem which I re-stated but was given the Rx nonetheless. I had bloodwork done, but despite being told by the doctor and the staff that I would be given the results in a day or so, I NEVER got the results from them. I called three times and the first 2 times I was told that "someone" would call me back with the results. The third time I was told that they would send a copy of the results to my GP and I could call them. Surprise, surprise, the NEVER sent the results to my GP office either. I was expected to make an appointment for the recommended colonoscopy before leaving, but due to the sedation they require that you have someone with you to drive you home and then to stay with you for several hours after you get home. Given their policy on schedule changes and cancelled appointments, the distance from home and the need to have a driver/babysitter available for several hours, I was not about to make an appt on the spur of the moment. When I had a question about the procedure I was told all the info was on their website. While their website does have a not of helpful information, it did NOT provide all the information I was looking for. No information was provided regarding the qualifications of the person(s) who administer or monitor the sedation, what the procedure was for patients with respiratory problems, etc, which are not inconsequential details if you are the one being sedated. My inquiries to the office via their website and by phone got no response or follow-up of any kind. Luckily they are not the only place in the region because we all deserve better than "one size fits all" medicine. read more

Dr.Pai in my opinion was top notch and most professional from first office visit to the procedure ( to include a follow up call after the procedure). My appointment was @3:.00 pm I was not seen by the dr until 4:30 and I didn't get out of the office until 5:00. I can't believe that it took 2 hours for them to see me. Some could have told me that the dr was running behind. But I sat there and Everton the waiting room went in before me even a lady that had an appointment with dr wing @3:30 and my appointment was 3:00. So I understand that things happen but it unexceptionable to sit for 2 hours for a 10 minute appointment. read more

I would advise against being a patient at this practice for several dissatisfying reason. My experience was with Dr Jaime Tishon, followed by the staff which books appointments, and finished with the nurse manager. I was diagnosed with several health issues after test were run. Dr Tishon prescribed an antibiotic for an infection, and nexium for GERD. I was never given any knowledge of diet that may go along with or help in the aid of healing ulcers, and acid along with medicine prescribed. Dr Tishon instructed me to make a follow up appointment to see how I felt, and to take a breath test to see if the infection was cured. At the follow up appointment (which I had a co-pay, and time out of my day) all she did was tell me to quit taking the nexium for 2 weeks and come back to take the breath test at that time. I feel that I could have been instructed by phone to do this. The infection was not cured, so her second course of action was a stronger drug/ antibiotic. I was on the drug for 7 of 10 days, experiencing alarming side effects. I called the Dr on call on a Saturday morning. The dr on call instructed me to quit taking the drug immediately and go to the ER, because I was experiencing neurological side effects from the new drug. She told me that my dr would be notified. I went all weekend with no call from anyone to see if I was ok, or to prescribe anything else to kill the infection. That Monday I left a detailed message expressing my frustration beginning with the drugs, all the way to no knowledge of a diet plan, and frustration that upon being sent to ER, having no dr call until the work week. Dr Tishon expressed that they did not notify her, and was barely sorry for her lack of information in regards to my chronic illness. She didn't feel as though diet information was an important bit of information in curing and aiding in the healing of drugs. Her only option given was to push prescription drugs. Still having issues to date, I called to see if I could switch to Dr Wong or Dr Detrain... Names passed on to me by multiple people. I was told I would receive a phone call in within 24 hrs to schedule me. That call never came from the "nurse manager" so I called back to try and make the appointment. The receptionist explained that policy is if a patient wants to switch Drs they have to have the nurse manager review the file and decide. I asked " why does your practice dictate who I get treated by, when I am a paying customer who was not happy with my experience with Dr Tishon." She was unsympathetic and quite cold. Her tone was that of someone annoyed as though I was a bother in trying to see a new dr. At this point I asked to speak to the "nurse manager" who never called when she was supposed to. She finally called and I explained the frustration with their protocol, and the unfriendliness of the reception staff. She seemed equally as flat and unwilling to attempt to appease me. Gastroenterology Associates of Fredericksburg is NO place I would EVER recommend to anyone I love! The lack of compassion for sick patients is so unsettling. I have experienced many unpleasant situations in the healthcare field, but none to this magnitude. None bad enough to take the time to write about! Stay away from that place! read more

My husband was hospitalized for five days after a colonoscopy performed by Gastroenterology Associates of Fredericksburg's Dr. Dong Lee, MD due to severe internal bleeding that was uncontrollable. A different procedure had to be performed at the hospital by another doctor to finally stop the bleeding. During that days-long waiting period, my husband's H&H levels, red cell count, and blood pressure all dropped quickly, and he required intravenous iron injections; with discussion from medical professionals of possibly needing blood transfusions. My husband actually thought he was dying. This happened months ago, and he is still being treated now by a hematologist to improve his blood levels. He lost more than a week's time from work, had a large hospital bill even after insurance payments, and is still suffering the after-effects. Dr. Dong Lee, MD was repeatedly notified by different people about the emergency situation happening with his patient after the colonoscopy he performed, and the patient directly asked for him to respond by phone or in person at the hospital; however, Dr. Dong Lee, MD waited for days, until after the other doctor had stopped the bleeding, to respond to his patient as requested. I have written this review factually and objectively, as I feel current patients have an ethical obligation to warn other prospective and existing patients of what could happen medically, financially, and emotionally. read more
