Once we walked in the place was decently packed, however it was so quiet in here!! If we happened to fart the whole place would have heard it; it was THAT quiet. Everyone was whispering, and there was only one table left open, so we sat there. We noticed two other children in the place already had the high chairs and thankfully the last table was a booth. The menu has English below each item, so no need to guess or use google translate and the wait staff is also really nice. We both ordered the duck special. Supposed to be crispy duck with a cranberry, red cabbage risotto. Sounds really yummy and different right? Welllll it wasn't crispy, it was overly sweet and the taste didn't match the texture of the risotto. However my daughter loved the "risotto". We both were really excited about CRISPY duck. Well we got soggy duck with a whole lot of fat. I would come back, only to try the other meals. I wouldn't order the same thing again. Every dish that passed by was so colorful, decorative and looked hands down delicious. Also, I know it says kid friendly. But I personally didn't feel like it was kid friendly. They always liked grabbing a nice bite to eat after a weekend performance, and so one day, they brought me here. I was 17 at the time and did not know too much about different restaurants in our area, but luckily, we had a lot of German members of our group, and they always showed us some great and tasty places! Blaue-Grotte (I've always known it as Blue Grotto in English) is this cute little restaurant located in the small town of Stegaurach. When you first enter, the place DOES resemble a grotto (think of that attraction in Disneyland - Ariel's Grotto). It's a dark, cavernous-looking kind of space with tables all along the walls and a random disco-dance floor in the middle. If you have a larger group, they'll take you towards the back room where it looks like a more traditional restaurant with lots of windows and bright light. The food at this restaurant is absolutely amazing. It's the kind of food that I wish I could show a lot of my friends here in California. I bring friends to German restaurants in the Bay Area all the time, but I still think back to the days of when I'd eat at Blaue Grotte. I still compare everything that I eat in America to the delicious meals I had here. The dishes I ordered often were their variety of schnitzels (regular wiener schnitzel, zweibeltreter schnitzel and jagerschnitzel). My favorite of the three I mentioned is the zweibeltreter schnitzel, which was fried like a regular wiener schnitzel and then topped off with melted cheese, onions and some peppers. It was amazing! Every time I look at a German menu, I always try to find it, but I think this may be a Bavarian specialty that is not common in all German restaurants. If you're ever in and or around Bamberg, you should try coming to this place. It's a nice drive out of the city (I think it's around a 20-minute drive). You'll have a nice drive with a view and you'll get some delicious food!
