Gateway Baptist Church is an Independent, Fundamental Baptist Church located in Cleveland, GA. I live in Cleveland, GA and have been a member of Gateway Baptist Church for years and I can say that I have appreciated our Pastor Ross Sparks and his family. We do use the KJV only in our services and I'm more than good with that as I have learned why that is the best translation to use after much personal study on the matter. Pastor Ross' ministry has increased my ability to learn much from my own personal Bible study as he teaches us to slow down and really read and meditate on what we have read. That has been the most helpful tool I've learned under this godly man. During his sermons this Pastor compares Scripture with Scripture and takes God's Word literally. I see that as one of the greatest assets of this church since learning from God's Word should be a church's primary focus. Our church is small but that is what I wanted because I was seeking after knowing the people I attend church with. I've gone to big churches before and felt I was lost in the shuffle and no one really knew me. You can't come into our church without being warmly welcomed by members and friends of the church! I also enjoy that we have a godly worship service with traditional hymns. It makes me appreciate that I don't have a loud drum beat going on when I try to absorb the meaning of what I'm singing. To me that is the godly way to worship our Savior and we don't do "worship-tainment" at this church. We do have an adult and two children's Sunday School classes as well. Children do sit in our services with their parents but do very well. Recently an eight year old told her parents how much she enjoys church! Pastor and his family are very loving people. I know personally of many people his family have helped in many ways. My own immediate family lives far from my husband and I and when we both had recent major surgeries, he and his wife helped us by encouraging us and being there for us at the hospital. They even provided us transportation when we needed it after our surgeries. Others in the church were quick to help me by carrying groceries for me when my husband was laid up and I could not handle that task. Is it weird to write a rec for a church? Yes…read more.. But as a Catholic, if you're traveling in the area, you might be a little hesitant to find a place for mass on Sunday (or Sat vigil). We visited here last year during a Sat vigil while engaged and preparing for our wedding. I was surprised for a couple reasons! It's a HUGE church! (I didn't think the area was that Catholic heavy!). The beauty of the church itself is worth a visit- I think it's Gothic Farmhouse style. Outside and inside there are many places to stop for prayer or reflection. Inside the lobby/narthex is a huge mural on the ceiling of St. Peter and St. Paul! (no- you're not in an Eastern Rite parish!). Lots of natural light and beautiful stained glass inside (not to mention I'm a sucker for the Shield of Trinity which is towards the front left!). The people themselves in the congregation are very warm and welcoming (you might think you walked into a Methodist church during the passing of the peace because everyone is so friendly). Best of all is Fr. Fabio, I think you can tell a lot by how a priest approaches the eucharist. Isn't this the precipice of the mass? He takes his time, so you can fully appreciate the beauty and mystery. If you get achy knees- you might want to sit instead of kneel- Father is not going to hurry. --- The second part of this review is the church as a space for a wedding. :) We loved the area so much- we decided to get married here! Michelle, the wedding coordinator was super helpful from a distance! She kept tabs on things very closely, but not overkill. I've been in wedding where the coordinator is crazy to work with- not Michelle! She was helpful, kind, and on point. A bonus of the church's beauty is we didn't need any decorations for the ceremony! I'd highly recommend this to any brides in the diocese especially who want to have a "destination wedding" in the area. I can't speak to having a reception here as we had it at a local restaurant/B&B (Bernie's!), but they do have a sizable fellowship hall!
