I volunteered last summer. The first time I went, I read to some 3 and 4 year olds. I almost cried when one of the kids asked me if I lived in a house. When I said yes, her eyes lit up and she said, "Really? I want to live in one, too." If I could have put all of those kids and their families into an apartment that day, I would have. Our House always needs volunteers AND donations, so help them out however you can.

After facing unforeseen and traumatic experiences, this organization became the very sanctuary and place of restoration I desperately needed. The staff, each one a true blessing, exemplified extraordinary dedication and grace. Their commitment was nothing short of a divine appointment; they poured their care and spiritual guidance into me like no other. We must give all the glory to God for utilizing every individual within this organization to genuinely minister to and love the brokenhearted who seek refuge here. They embraced me exactly where I was in my journey, providing an atmosphere where I could rediscover solace, peace, tranquility, dignity, and integrity, but most importantly, unconditional love. Because of their unwavering support, grounded in faith, I have been able to look onward and forward, never back. The fellowship we built was a testament to perseverance a family connection that, while not always easy, was always achievable. And they offer 16 ( full time) 26 weeks ( part time) I never got received the PT option. I went to many people about my concerns. The discrimination since March 3rd 2023, has been by far one of the most unfair, unrealistic journeys in my life. On top of dealing with my mother health, spending thousands of dollars on Air BNB and Ride share, making the sacrifice to attend this program. And I received no help. From a "faith-based environment that helps individuals and families transition out of crisis. " That is federally funded by the Dept of Labor With a 5.4 million dollar grant. To help BLACK and BROWN people who are trying to better themselves. And instead of helping someone, that has a disability that's documented, even receives benefits from Social Security. BOTH DIGITAL CRAFTS AND CITY OF REFUGE decided to kick me out of the program. I figured out that the Tech Academy program is all about money, and a scam. they rush you out, with no experience or skills, so they can rush another group in there. and because I asked for help, finally started writing letters and didn't quit like the others have in the past Digital Crafts and City of Refuge Neither one of their organizations know nothing about being Black, but capitalizing off of us. White privilege The hours alone to do this class, was inhumane, unrealistic, that is why the success rate, is non existent, especially if you're Black and Brown , knowing we already deal with challenges in our community. I love being BLACK, but at times I resent it, because of the way we are treated, if we challenge something. We will automatically be put in our "place"

This bar is weird and wacky and I loved it a lot! Went while in town for work and was looking for a…read morevery chill vibe but interesting and open late night and this checked all those boxes. The only thing that threw me off was it was described, or at least I thought it was (there may have been a drink or two before this) as a cat bar so I thought cats would be roaming around. Honestly, I wondered how safe that was and what if people don't want cats crawling around them. It made a lot more sense when I got there and realized you had to pay to visit the cat den. It was just a back room with a bunch of cats, but the nice thing is that they donate those funds towards animal charities. Personally, I don't care enough about hanging out with the cats so I skipped that part, but otherwise they played great music on a Tuesday. The bartender was awesome too that night. Very friendly. We had a great little chat and then I promptly noticed a high heel shoe chair and made my coworker shoot a pic of me sitting on it. Big fan of the kitch!

Their hours are perfect for people who want an exciting thing to do at night but with chill vibes and even chiller cats. They have a limited selection on drinks but they are always fast. And they host some pretty cool events here from paint nights to cat yoga, recently they held a tattoo event with a local shop. Super fun and totally worth the visit.

This was one of the best volunteer experiences that I've ever had. What I participated in was…read morecalled Mural Painters at the Carpenter's House. I found the event via the Hands On Atlanta Website. (Check my review for that. http://www.yelp.com/biz/hands-on-atlanta-atlanta) I arrived expecting to paint large murals on walls. Instead I found that the artist was actually there to explain that we would be painting murals, together with the residents of the Atlanta Union Mission, on large canvases that would eventually be hung together. Fabulous!! I loved the interaction that this encouraged. The artist, I can't remember his name, takes 6 large canvases and draws a mural across all of them. Then he puts dots of paint in each section so that volunteers and residents can fill it in later. It's a twist on the paint by number thing. He then ships the murals to some 128 different countries to beautify hospitals. He believes that art is therapeutic. It's good for those of us who paint it and those who view it. Anyway, I sat for about 2 hours talking with residents while doing my favorite thing: painting. It was wonderful to talk to the guys about their lives and share a little of mine. At the end of the 2 hours, I felt like I had grown as a person. (I know it sounds sappy, but it's true.)
