Overall, this is a great church (hence why I call it my home church and joined as a member), but…read morethere's a lot of 'why' behind that. First, let's talk about the message. Pastor Bruce's message, even if they aren't always super-deep (understandable when you're trying to break Scripture down for a couple thousand people), are always spot on (reminds me of my favorite pastor from back in San Antonio, Pastor Scott Austin of Park Community Church). Next, there's the groups in this church. This might be where I would ding the church a little if I did, as I feel there could be more groups, more niches (but that's also partially my fault, I'll get into that in a bit). However, there are groups for people in all walks of life, and there is most certainly a group for you if you look for it...or maybe even a few groups. Next, and this is HUGE, this Church runs groups and programs that really work on the answer of "what's next?" AFTER you come to salvation. Too many churches work really hard to get people to recognize and submit to Christ as Lord and Savior...and then do nothing about what happens AFTER that. Biltmore Church helps walk with you through that journey AFTER that. For reference, I came to salvation 22 years ago this month...and it wasn't until about 2-3 years ago that my faith began to really take off...partially due to Biltmore Church. Next, let's talk about serving. One of the things the leadership at Biltmore Church pushes is "we equip an army, not an audience." EVERYBODY is encouraged to serve. For me, that's largely been more tech stuff (I'm a tech guy, it fits). Others serve in parking, greeting, facility maintenance, etc. In my small group, out of 15-20 people there are maybe 2 that I don't know if they're serving anywhere in the church. This concept really blew up during the recent floods after Helene, with our church jumping into action to take care of the community, whether with food and supplies or physically going places and removing trees or digging mud out of houses. We all serve...as Jesus would have us do. Now, to circle back on groups. Remember that one minor potential ding of not enough groups? ...that's mainly because nobody's made those groups yet. I haven't made that group yet. (I'm debating it in my case, but I'm also unsure if God wants me [personally] to continue along the activity that I would have wanted that group to use as a backdrop. [It's not a bad activity, it's games, lol...but it's kinda like Pastor Bruce said about country music for him...while it's not a bad thing, there was a time that God told him it wasn't for him, and I'm getting convicted of the same for me...games aren't a bad thing, but this is beginning to seem like a season where God is telling me they're not for me. If and when that season ends, if that group doesn't exist, I'll probably look at steps to make it myself.]) In short, though, I'd highly recommend Biltmore church for anybody looking for a place to worship or to find out more about God. Specifically, I'll drop a shameless plug for the West Asheville campus, because Pastor Victor is awesome too. And, lastly, if you do check out the West Asheville campus, feel free to come say 'hi.' Also, they offer online viewing for when we're not able to make it in person. On our first visit, the pastor was out in the lobby talking with everyone and they are super welcoming to newcomers. Probably the friendliest group of people you'll ever meet. It's sometimes tough to find a church…read morethat takes the bible literally and keeps God's word at the core of everything it does but WABC hits hits the target. I've even met people around town who attend other churches but still try to catch WABC's TV & radio broadcasts. Services are enjoyable and the sermons, while detailed and well researched, are easy to grasp. You listen to recordings on the church's website. The church is active in a wide array of family and community services as well as putting a great effort into outreach. The pastoral staff and deacons are approachable and open but take their work very seriously. There seems to be a Sunday School class for every conceivable group, age or life stage. I don't know how they keep track of them all. For children there are daycare, educational and sports facilities on premises. There's tons of parking. A security officer works out front during services helping people cross streets and keeping an eye on things. The grounds and facilities are well kept. They film all Sunday services and special events like the Christmas special and the massive Easter program they produce every year. I could keep going, I think. There's too much to list here. Check out their website and you'll get some small idea of what a huge effort this church puts into ministry. Church shopping (I hate that term) is always a pain but WABC is definitely worth a visit and a great congregation to be a part of.

Pre-COVID, the church used to offer guided tours of the cathedral but tours have not yet resumed post-COVID. My wife spoke to a a cleric (I'm not sure what the proper name is for a cleric in the Episcopal Church) and he introduced her to a lady who had been one of the docents pre-COVID who gave her private tour of the cathedral. I didn't go inside but toured the grounds. My wife said the interior was beautiful and inspiring.

A beautiful place in just about every aspect…read more Architecturally, it was designed by Richard Morris Hunt at the same time his Biltmore Estate was under construction. Biltmore Village was to be a community for estate workers, with this being their parish church. It wasn't until a few decades ago that it was designated a cathedral, so it is a bit more compact and jewel-box like than your typical mind's-eye cathedral. As this was funded by the good ship Vanderbilt, all the stops were pulled out - an ornate design (in a Greek cross style as opposed to the more typical Latin, or rather X-shaped than t-shaped), beautiful stained glass windows (the Holy family, the saints, and memorial windows to Frederick Law Olmstead and Cornelius Vanderbilt), etc. I don't know how old the organ is but it had a bright tone to it as well. The grounds and parish hall make for lovely strolling too. It's like seeing a highlight of Biltmore but at no expense! On the functional side, we attended a 9am Eucharist. The church is a progressive one, as you'd expect from both the Episcopal church and the Asheville location, with commemoration that day for a former parishioner who had led a national appeal to recognize same-sex relationships in 1975! The Dean delivered an engaging, thoughtful sermon in an easy-going style, and the hymns were personal favorites (starting with the Sacred Harp, ending with Beethoven's 9th). Children sit with parents until the sermon where they are ushered out, and return for the Collect. One unique thing here is that children are called to the altar when Communion is being prepared, though they return to their seats before properly receiving it. And upon leaving, we spoke with a number of friendly parishioners who went out of their way to welcome us. Dress was mostly business casual if that matters to you. We really enjoyed our visit to All Souls, and though Asheville has a number of impressive looking churches that we'd like to get a look at, it might be hard to steer away from here the next time we're in town!
