The teachings are biblically sound, addressing biblical truths head on, with reverence for the Lord and a love for both the saved and the lost. Members hold each other accountable, and they are bearing much fruit in their homes, community, and world. Sunday messages always give me something to ponder upon. We have many opportunities to practice these teachings locally and internationally. However, beginning January 25, 2015, there is a new location for the church office and service: 15100 Enterprise Ct., Suite 100, Chantilly, VA 20151. The church is multiethnic, but a very rough breakdown would be about 50% Asian (usually American born) and 50% Caucasian. There's also quite a few interracial couples (e.g., 1 Asian and 1 Caucasian). The church's big strength is community. The church has about 200 adult attendees, so it's small enough that most people know each other. However, the church community is very spread out, which you can view as a good or bad thing. Good because it means people are willing to drive all the way from Lorton/Maryland/DC to attend the church. Bad because it's sometimes annoying to drive 45 minutes just to get to a church activity. The church is trying to address this by creating quarterly community groups that are organized by where you live. Another strength is the church's children's program. The leaders believe that children are capable of much more than we give them credit for, and so rather than sitting children in front of mindless videos or random coloring books, they believe in actually teaching kids about the Gospel. For example - memorizing Bible verses at a very young age. Although I've been attending this church for 7 years, I do have to be honest about its weaknesses. For me (and maybe not for you), it's the church's location. It's pretty far west for folks who live by Vienna metro. Also, sometimes the sermons can be a bit repetitive, though I think this is done because some people are sleepy and not fully processing information on Sunday morning. Also, I don't agree with Mikey's criticism about the ratio of single women and men. I know at least 10 couples that met through this church.

The 10:45am is perfect for those of us who cant wake up early on sunday mornings or who tend to stay out a little late on sat nights. The pastors are great, knowledgable, and friendly. they congregation is multi-ethnic, and tend to be in the young adult/young family range. probably the only complaint about this church is the lack of single girls my age haha. but who goes to church to meet girls?

The stuff makes you feel welcome right away. Everyone is EXTREMELY helpful, the Pastor Barry White give hilarious services. They have 3 services on Sundays 9am, 10am and 11am with a donut buffet, coffee, tea and juices for everyone. They also have service on Saturday at 5pm and offer pizzas. People are helpful in so many ways. Stuff provided meals to my family for 2 weeks when we all had Covid. The children auditorium is amazing ( my 2 girls love it), so much fun! They have so many connect groups for middle schoolers and high schoolers to socialize. They have fun groups for elementary schooler and many small groups of all sort for adults to join and make friends. The list goes on and on... The Church is very spacious and is even building a new Youth center building with a gym, game room ... There are many free events to attend for all occasions with free food (trunk or treat for Halloween, Christmas, Easter)... We've made Saint Matt's or gone now for 22 years, and things continue to improve. The church is incredibly innovative in ways they reach out into the community and meet the needs of the current members/parishioners. When COVID lockdown beganes the next Sunday immediately streamed services online. Then quickly began offering outdoor services to compliment the online offering. They have created non-profits to directly help the community, and constantly give to the community, especially those who may not be regular members. There's a constant recognition that God works through us in our community and our daily actions. It's clear our family is committed to St. Matt's, and love the contemporary 9:30 service with drums, electric guitars, and singers at a concert level quality. I'm always surprised the 8am and 11am traditional services don't have more attendees, since they match the Episcopal services we're used to. They're very moving services, but we still found our connection at 9:30.

The Knights of Columbus helped me and my family get situated when we first moved to Reston. They actually offered to me and my friend that we volunteer at the pancake Sundays. Both my nieces and I had a mixture of baptism, communion, and confirmation at this church and their process is really easy and they help along the way. I don't know if they do it still do it but for 8th graders - seniors that need to do confirmation they did one summer hold a program to help them be right on track in case they missed a bible study class one year or so. Very engaged with their community. 4 stars because I have not been their recently but I do intend on going soon.
