I then booked an appt. for her required second set of shots. (note: I spent quite awhile at that first visit, as what dog lover doesn't love to talk about their dog? LOL. I felt they were a bit 'heavy handed' about the insurance. But take it or leave it right? As it turned out - to get insurance for my dog; with a $250. deductible it would have cost me ONLY $500. plus per month. I just about fell on the floor. I was stunned that anyone could say that with a straight face. Seriously?!?! Obscenely ridiculous. I don't know anyone - with or without tons of money who would EVER consider paying such extortion-like prices.) However, the part that left me VERY UNIMPRESSED was that when I went in for my appt. (you know; pre-booked for that specific service?) The vet was friendly and examined her in a small exam room. He gave her the kennel cough nasal dosing and then proceeded to tell me that they 'were out' of vaccines. Sooooo NOT COOL!! But stuff happens and although I wasn't thrilled to have to return again; it was not the end of the world. Right? So, I return when the vaccines 'came in' and I was stunned to have a 'woman from the front counter' (what were her credentials? was she a vet tech? She didn't clarify anything) She just took her leash from me and promptly WALKED AWAY WITH MY DOG (not inviting me, the owner to follow or otherwise) she went into one of the exam rooms and passed thru the rear door (closing it behind her) I, of course followed, thinking 'what the heck are you doing lady?!?!' I open the rear door to their back room - where I said "Um, I want to be WITH my dog and SEE the vaccination" and there she was giving her the injection! Of course she may well have been a trained vet assistant but I'll never know! She was quite arrogant about the whole thing and acted like I was making a big deal out of nothing. I PAID for a physical exam and expected the VET to give her the injection. (I can go to G & E Pharmacy and obtain my own vaccinations for about $9 bucks. *** I have owned dogs forever and done this countless times in the past; when my pets were in great physical condition (you cannot do rabies yourself, but I had never taken any of my dogs out in the bush or forested areas so I never had rabies shots done) Needless to say, the 'in-stock' preparedness was a big FAIL but the 'woman-at-the-counter-walking-away-with-my-dog' (without explanation) was ENTIRELY UNACCEPTABLE. I have dealt with vet techs and have no problem. But in this case who knows what her training was? The ONLY reason I go to a vet is for 'THE VET'!!!! I then broke down in tears because I'm a server and a student, and there is no way I can afford this without going into debt...So my cat is going to die? That's basically the reaction I had. The veterinarian then said directly that if I couldn't afford veterinary fees then perhaps I should contemplate not owning animals. Then he said that he'd see what he can do about bumping the cost down. The vet returned with the second bill (380$) and again, I received the message that due to my inability to pay for all the treatments, that my cat would be getting "subpar" care (vet's words). Implicit in this statement is that, because I'm low income, I cannot properly care for my cat. I left, I treated her in a "subpar" way, and guess what: she's well again and thriving. I didn't need any of that extra stuff. For example- day hospitalization. 52$... I just had to stay an extra hour while she had tests completed. Tell me again: Which option shows more care for the cat? TL;DR the CTPH are slick, which might lead you to think that paying upwards of 1000$ per visit makes you a good and caring pet owner. Almost a year later - I've been going to The Mill Creek Animal hospital for my pet's needs (two cats and two visits so far) and they have been outstanding in terms of integrity, cost, and compassion. I waited to post this negative review because I still didn't know what an honest veterinarian looked like in Edmonton. Please consider the other options before you spend too much money here for the same result. Even just call on the phone and compare prices, you'll see.

The store is well lit, spacious, has a water station if you're bringing along a furry friend and there were enough salespeople on the floor for it to be easy to find someone to help me locate items. If you shop online and live in Alberta shipping is free, over $100 I believe, and they ship out items within a couple of days with only 1-2 day shipping speed. The prices are the same or better than other pet stores or Amazon and I'd rather shop local where I can. I was having trouble finding a two door crate with a divider online with other retailers, but I was able to find one at Homes Alive Pets. I do note that what's available online is a little different than what's in store, so I'm glad I went in store because my pup has now found a little dragon chew/rope/squeaky toy that she goes absolutely crazy for that I wouldn't have known existed if I didn't go into this location.
