Live music, food vendors galore, Artisan Alley, and even a few food trucks to the back. This is definitely an event worth checking out and just another reason why living in Sacramento is so enjoyable. I had a good time at Oak Park Gather, but there's room for improvement. Entrance is free, IDs are checked, and wristbands supplied. Cash and cards are used to buy drink tokens (beers $6, cocktails $7). I liked how there were multiple tables doing this to make entering a smooth process. Surprisingly, "The Bar" line moved quickly, especially considering how many beer and cocktail selections they offered. The Bar staff should be commended for an effective system that kept that line moving. They really should consider moving the placement of the setup though. This huge line was formed right in front of the speakers of the stage, making it difficult to have a conversation, and causing a traffic jam for those moving to and from the food truck area. The crowd was really big by 6pm. And massive by 7. I love dog friendly events, but this was much too big of a crowd for the pups, who mostly looked stressed from being constantly run into by strangers who have their eyes on food and aren't looking down. The fleet of baby strollers that swarmed the area was ridiculous. This is an alley after all, not Land Park. It would have been much easier to navigate around the crowd if those were removed. I wasn't sure what to make of the lounge setup, other than it seemed like an ineffective use of space given the massive amount of people at this event by 7pm. It would be a huge improvement if there were more seating available for people. In Artisan Alley, for example, there was a huge space that could have been used for that purpose. I was really happy to see The Roaming Spoon and Conscious Creamery offering awesome vegan eats. If they continue to show up then so will I :) read more

No traffic around here on Sunday. Most likely due to everyone being at home. The streets were clear and the mood was calm. Easy free parking was a plus. This mural is very nice and SAC has plenty more to offer to see. So go check them out!! Will be back again to check out more stuff. read more

Shall we gather? Let's gather. Reasons to gather, in order: 1. it's FREE to get in. FREE I tell you. Drink tickets and food cost money of course, but no entrance fee. 2. Live music. Last night we were treated to Element Brass Band, complete with bead necklaces launched into the crowd. 3. Local beers available as well as wine. Different food trucks show up each time, clustered in the back to the right of the stage set up. I've seen Fuzion Eatz, Mama Kim's, Maine Lobster, Granola Girl, Wandering Boba, Some Pizza Thing I Forgot the Name Of, Some Shave Ice Thingie, and the Culinerdy Cruzer so far. 4. Booths and freebees, featuring local honey, coffee, and other such samples, a cornucopia of awesome! Activities for the kiddies! 5. Communal tables and stand up tables available to chill with your friends and even meet new people. 6. Dog friendly. Pets to love on aplenty! 7. Ample parking in surrounding areas. 2nd Thursdays this summer GATHER: Oak Park is a cool open air market/beer garden/food vendor cluster kinda hangout event. Beer, kombucha, food, and various goods vendors are local. Cool area for the kiddies to get their playdate on. DJ was spinning laid back hip hop. Vendors were a little light, but since GATHER is from the folks that started GOOD I think that'll improve considering a nice turnout of folks for the first one. I enjoyed the people watching with my farmhouse from New Glory Brewing. I'll be back next month. Maybe next time I'll hit that popsicle cart. read more

The first Gather event was held tonight in Oak Park from 5-9pm. I found out about this event through a friend, and it seemed like a great idea! Basically the event is about bringing the community together with food, unique items, and live music. Everybody is welcome to enjoy the experience no matter if you're from the Oak Park area or not! The atmosphere was festive and there was a good vibe about the entire event. Gather took place on a sectioned off street in the Oak Park neighborhood of Sacramento, Ca. I wasn't sure what to expect before I got there. It turned out to be a bit smaller than I had imagined it to be. In total, there were really just a couple restaurant food places with the other vendors being drinks, desserts, candy, or other non-food items. Attendees had the choice of either having food from Thai Basil or tacos from a restaurant that I can't recall at the moment. I went for the Thai Basil as it looked a bit more unique than the tacos. For $12 I was able to get a combo plate that had a pretty good amount of food on it - noodles, rice, tofu, curry, vegetables, and a sausage patty. Thai Basil was not skimpy on the portions! The combo plate was very tasty as the ingredients were freshly prepared. I also chose to get a DavePops Popsicle, the pina colada one. Oh, that was a tasty frozen treat for a warm day like today! I was surprised at the richness and full-flavor that this Popsicle had. I'd definitely get another one from Dave. LukePops that are sugar free were also available from him. As I finished dinner I turned my attention to the live music and other vendors around Gather. I found that quite a few people had come to see what this event was all about. I think Gather as slightly under-prepared for their first time out. There were only two dining quality places to go if you wanted a meal for dinner. Hopefully next time there will be more. Other than that, Gather has a good start to build on, and I'm hopeful that Gather will become an event that the people of Sacramento can enjoy all summer long! read more

Great neighborhood gathering. zi wasn't sure where it was initially, as there was another street something going on just a few blocks over. Hey, can't be mad with capitalism, trying to grab customers from this well-advertised event. The concept is perfect! What happened to the neighborhood block parties we use to have when I was a kid? Gather is bringing it back! With comfy lounge areas, a few standing tables, and a center "family style table" to encourage chatting, it had a good vibe. Music was playing at separate ends of the block, yet not interfering with the other. Food was plenteous. There was seafood, chicken, BBQ, soul, Asian, and a few others. It was hot as heck, so those triangle shade things tied to buildings or trees would have made this perfect. read more

If your looking for a relaxed, mature, family crowd. This event is for you, every good thing you've heard about it... is true! Every food truck and pop up that I have had are tasty. Not one selected by Gather have I been disappointed in and there's always a diverse selection to choose from. The music selection has gotten a lot better. It truly has become a joy to vibe out to the music as well as eat the food. They also provide a few selected clothing and accessory vendors to buy from and for those that love a beer or wine with their choice meal... there's that too. The people are fun and everyone loves to mingle including the cops on patrol. They even have a couple of games for children to play. I am not cool enough for Gather: Oak Park. You might be if you have a beard and visit the gym more than the bar. The OP is already hipster central and this event is the prom. Their monthly outdoor event is on the streets near Old Soul along Broadway. Parking is limited and not recommended. Use RT or your favorite paid driver instead. This is really more of a food truck event than a major cultural event. There are several excellent trucks and a great beer garden near the live music stage. Gather does have a kids area and several arts and crafts vendors, but most of the young crowd are here for a buzz and snacks with their dogs in tow. This is a place to see and be seen with many young professionals mingling. It was really packed with wanderers making it tough to navigate, but it does deliver excellent beer, food, and people watching for those cool enough to participate. read more

my first oak park gather night. at first when i arrived there was hardly anybody but then i realized people were still getting off work or finding parking--- so why am i complaining. i did a roll around the stands and food trucks (very good trucks) and got dibs on food. afterwards we walked around the area and went into shops. really cool ones too i dont know why i waited so long to come to one of these. read more

One word: hipster. Literally, doesn't get more hipster than this. Very cute & a nice idea but I felt pretty out of place and surprisingly uncomfortable here (cus I'm not a hipster or white). And, looking at other reviews, it appears I'm the only one who didn't care for this 'event'. Pretty small area to gather so many people. Can be quite difficult to walk around and even harder to find someplace to eat. If you don't like any of the food (stands and food trucks to select from) there are a cluster of very cute, and also very hipster, restaurants across the street. In this aspect, I am also probably the only one who doesn't like the size of this event. Cozy is just a nice way of saying small & cramped. They also need more trash cans, bathrooms, seating, overall space..... Parking isn't bad, although I did go at 8 (close to closing time @ 9). Free street parking all around and easily found parking 1-2 blocks away. North Oak Park is pretty bougie, so it actually felt pretty safe (at least within the few block radius). Nice to see parts of the neighborhood being revitalized, but gentrification is an issue. Prices of stuff in this area are fairly steep and only create a bigger divide between the new north & the long time residents of the poorer South Oak Park area..but I digress. I think they have good intentions with what they're doing but they could try harder to get other demographics out here. Although, that might make it too 'ghetto' for many of the people who love this event so much. read more

This is a fun place to go when you want something fun to do on a Thursday night, but you don't want to stay out too long. We saw the mayor there once. The set up us nice, the about a block is closed off for this weekly event, you walk in and show your ID if you plan on drinking alcohol, then you go to the booth and get your wrist band. They have tables set up along the middle, but it can be very sunny and hot during the summer. There are so many food vendors that there is something for everyone. The live music changes weekly. An evening that made me fall a little more in love with Sac! I hope this doesn't get ghetto or turn bad. This whole event was a great family experience for us. I didn't make it out last year and was seriously regretting it, so we made it a point to go last week! I can't fault the event for the poor service of one of the food trucks, but I can applaud them for bringing out so many various vendors. So many options, we got food and drinks from three different spots. The shared table experience is a fun concept. I enjoy engaging others at these types of events, so it is no biggie to me. I enjoyed it and it made great people watching. The music and the DJ also set the tone too. Even the cute dance performance by the young kids was an awesome touch - especially for the families attending. I can't say any more good things about this event. I just hope it stays this way and doesn't let the riff raff make it bad. And I'm not alluding to the Oak Park inhabitants, I'm talking about the entitled brats who sometimes make Sac events start to suck! Okay, rant over, sorry! Probably my favorite event in the Sacramento area! I love the premise of Gather Nights! It's a place where everyone can get together. There's an area for kids, an area with food trucks, an alley where artisans can sell their items, there's dogs everywhere, and there's live music. The event is free to attend, free parking. You can get cocktails, beer, or wine. There's tons of food vendors doing tented food and prepackaged food (i.e. bread, popcorn, marshmallows). I LOVE the communal table! Yes, it's a pain in the butt to walk ALL the way around to get to the other side to see the different vendors but I just have to deal with it. I sat down at a table to eat some Masa Tacos and of course I talked to the people across from me about their meals. This is what it's all about, meeting new people. GATHER. The music is loud, people dance on the tiny dance floor or in the street. You can buy gourmet popsicles. Kids are doing art in the kid area. The sunsets and you can see all the beautiful lights and with any luck the delta breeze comes rolling in. And you're just standing there in the middle of the street with strangers who are your neighbors and it's gorgeous and it's like a movie and I wish I could live it everyday. read more

Oak Park is definitely changing and gather can a great time to come together and enjoy the outdoor space and community. I hope for upcoming GATHERS they'll have more diversity of the event goers and advertise to the entire community. I would love to experience more culture. Sacramento is a melting pot and having an experience that displays that is important for the community. They have some nice vendors, including local artists, wines, food, natural body products and jewelry. I think switching up the music selections could be a great addition! Finding parking is not difficult at all. I've gotten there around 6:30pm and have never had an issue with find a place to park. read more

What an awesome event. I'm sad I didn't realize these existed before this month! I'm a sucker for anything that fosters a strong sense of community. Why you must go!- Tons of food options Great diverse crowd Kid & pet friendly Great music $5 draft beer/wine Tables with umbrellas and linen to eat dinner What's not to love?! Being new to the Sacramento area, this was my favorite event so far! Very family, and DOG friendly!! This I can't wait to attend next time. There were local vendors, local breweries, awesome food trucks, and let's not forget the live music that rocked it last night! Yes it was 102 and that is a bit hot but it was worth it. What was great was the fact we just moved here from down south and we ran into fellow alums. So fun was to be had along with reminiscing over law studies and where we all are now. It was a good time. Things we sampled or ate for the night. Culinerdy-DAMN IT JIM burger with waffle cut fries, and the fiancé had the tikka chicken burger with the flash fried Brussels sprouts...GET THE SPROUTS EVERYTIME! any other way is wrong for a side. Also had some of her homemade brownie. We ended the night with a Melt and cake sandwich. The Melt was an apple fritter donut heated up and stuffed with Vanilla I e cream then drizzled with caramel. Mine was a chocolate with nuts, horcata ice cream sandwiched in between it. It was quiete delightful! Oh! And the dogs!!! The dogs had such an amazing time mingling with all the other dogs! This was something we feared wasn't going to happen when we entered, and that we made a drive for nothing. But nope Sacramento didn't fail us, DOGS ALLOWED!!! A really great event, but take this review with a grain of salt because the event isn't exactly as advertised. The promotional material for Gather displays it as some sort of casual, farm-to-table, hipster-elegant relaxed event. Advertised: Beer Garden, communal tables, kids area, marketplace Reality: Beer truck, food truck, loud reggae, tshirt sales. Too crowded to be kid friendly- I actually found a sign outlining the rules of the kid's area, but no actual kid's area. The reality is that this was a REALLY AWESOME event, I had a warm beer and some vegan samosas while listening to the Sacramento Storytellers. Knowing this, I'll be back for sure! Advice: Leave the kids at home. It's too crowded and they're not going to have a great time. Also, most of the vendors accept cards, which is amazing! read more

Music, friends, food, and beers..... . i have this special feeling for oak park, i really love the renovations they have done nearby. Love the feeling of urban and kind of reminds me of somewhere else than in sacramento. . i do like the block they chose for oak park gather. It was the perfect size to accommodate all the vendors and people. Just kind of wish there was more seating or in a way less seating because it got kind of crowded while waiting for food. . Also i think there should be multiple lines for the booze inside the gather, instead of this one huge long snake line for booze. . I like the side cocktail tables spread randomly along the sidewalks along the US Bank. Those are fancy and classy in a way at night with dim lights. . Some of the highlights on the vendor that one night was, wheel lemonade. i had try the guava strawberry lemonade, and it was sooo refreshing and amazing! definitely worth that $5 bucks and nothing more amazing than that on a triple digit heat day. . another highlight is the caramel popcorn! the caramel popcorn is amazing because there is a story behind it, long story short, the popcorn recipe comes from a grandma, and its been passed down by generations. i was touched and glad i got to try the caramel popcorn. It is very reasonable priced too. . Kobe beef dog - yea this was like whattttt? but yea it was quite good, and you can definitely tell it wasn't a normal hot dog. but its quality in the meat. i say if you spot that hot dog stand give it a try, its not hard to miss. One thing that really stands out from this cart is all the sauce they offer. The condiments are over loaded and i just want to squirt a little bit of every sauce they offer on the kobe beef dog. . The real masa - this vendor capture my attention with the elote corn on the cob, with mayo, tajin, and mexican cheese on it. it was amazing! The fresh tortilla they were making for the tacos seemed like it was amazing! vegetarian and meat options tacos are available too. Nice friendly staffs too! Love the service from them. . Also the music stage was quite fun and energetic! it brought the community together to just chill, and have a good dance on every second thursday of the month. i really enjoy the chill vibe and foods too. What a cool intimate event and man, kudos to Mayor Kevin Johnson for cleaning Oak Park up...this place is spiffy! Gather is a relatively small venue showcasing a few food local vendors and beer brewers but don't let that detract you, this spot is happenin' One vendor had chicken and waffles sandwhich...it was a gunk of a mess to eat, sauces and egg melting all over the place...but man was it good and when washed down with a nice local ipa...heaven! My hands were such a mess I went to the water pump by the porta potty but it was out of water, having no other options, I nearly broke down and cried using beer to wash my filthy hands. read more

Great atmosphere, and cozy layout. This weekday outdoor event, caters to all sorts of people, from hipsters, families, and bikers a like. Gather near the live music, or chill near the Food trucks. NOTE TO FAMILIES: This can be a family friendly event - IF you come EARLY!!!! As Gather promotes their event 5pm-9pm, I'd suggest arriving right at 5 to claim your "spot/area,' to lounge. I'd bring a blanket/park your stroller/or even bring lounge chairs for yourself near the DJ. Right there you created your own VIP area. My kids, didn't really enjoy the crowds, as it was hard to walk through the entry to make it towards the food trucks. I didn't like it either. Space is needed, if your a family of 4 just trying to walk through to get your food. The artist ally was cute, but I did expect more. They were your typical vendors you usually see at Midtown Farmers Market on Saturday mornings. I hope they add in just a few more vendors... The West Elm Lounge was totally adorable, along with the kids tic-tac-toe/ ring toss. That corner (near Old'SoCo was open), and free with no crowds. PROS: -Excellent signage -Easy going Layout -Easy to spot location. -Parking available -Live music! -Family friendly CONS: -Gets crowded -Food Truck area is a bit tight, when lines form.
