The Good: I used to get my mental health care from this facility. My therapist at the time seemed genuine with their level of care, and their type of questioning was actually very helpful as it had been followed up with planning and a very direct path on how I could help myself. I did learn a lot and I am grateful for that period of time. The Bad: I had been referred to different types of group therapy. While I was hesitant, I still went, because I'm there to help myself. What I found in group therapy was a complete mess. It was very quickly apparent that the loudest person in the room would hold the floor for the whole session. This is so incredibly frustrating when you just feel like you're in a session to have someone say the same things every week, have the same problems every week, and have them hold the floor every week. It was beyond disappointing. I backed away from group therapy but still maintained my standard therapy sessions. My father got incredibly ill, very quickly, during this time. I had to travel a lot and ended up cancelling appointments due to the fact I was out of state helping my mother cope with my father dying. I got a call during this time that my therapist was no longer with the practice. That's fine. I still needed help and I'm not shy to having a new therapist, especially with the trauma of my father dying. What happened at that point, is I got a lot of automated phone calls and texts. I responded to all of them. I got a single call back at some point letting me know that they had found a therapist that could work with challenges. Then a couple days before my scheduled appointment, I got a voicemail saying that the therapist couldn't take me on. Then it went back to the automated phone calls and texts, with no way to actually reach someone. This went on for months until I received a letter in the mail stating that they were terminating me for non response. Completely baffling and beyond frustrating. Here I am, burying my father, responding to these automated things, and I get a letter saying I never reached back out. Heartbreaking. To sum it up, my therapist when things were good was actually great. Now reading other reviews, it's pretty clear that Gavia in general has a very difficult time with HIPPA violations and the general nonchalant environment when people need help. And reading some of the stories, I've definitely had other people walk into a session. However, I was lucky enough that the session would essentially pause and nothing was discussed in front of me, at least. But looking back, I wouldn't do it again. The therapist was good, but it's outweighed by layers of bad. I would honestly be careful if you care about your mental health: I'm not sure anyone reaches out repeatedly when they are stuck in limbo from the office, just to have a letter reach their house saying they never did. read more

I wish I had read more reviews before starting therapy here. It's been a while since I was a patient, but a number of red flags still stand out. For my very first session, I was mistakenly sent a video link to another person's appointment -- a clear HIPAA violation. Throughout my time there, I saw multiple therapists who often showed up late, seemed distracted, or even dozed off during sessions. I was pressured to try therapy formats I had already said I wasn't comfortable with, like group therapy, and when I declined, I was treated like I was being difficult. I also felt strongly pressured to go on medication, and when I expressed that I didn't feel it was the right path for me, I was met with resistance and made to feel like a problem rather than a person. Instead of feeling supported, I felt gaslighted, invalidated, and eventually bullied out of continuing care. I had gone in hoping for professional help, but I left feeling worse and more discouraged than before. read more

I am editing my original review because I received a cease-and-desist letter from gavia's attorneys and I don't want to take any chances with my own career. But I stand by what I said in the earlier reviews and I will simply say now: as you would when considering working with any therapist, make sure they are happy where they work. Many will never be honest about this as they need an income. So you'll have to trust your instincts. But do trust your instincts in choosing a clinic and a therapist. I will also say that I find it rather telling that instead of taking me up on my attempts to collaborate, the owners and other clinicians of gavia chose to stonewall me and are now threatening me with legal action instead of taking a long hard look in the mirror. Bullying behavior. They don't want me telling my story because it makes them look bad... but they somehow rationalize threats?! Fascinating logic. Spending time and resources to threaten an ex-employee who so clearly ONLY ever had the intention of protecting clients is very revealing. I have news for you gavia, not everyone is going to like you and we have this thing called, the first amendment. As far as I know, in order to have a case against me, they would have to prove intended or unintended harm. The only people who have been harmed are me and the clients that gavia abandoned when they fired me. Retraumatizing! I have consistently tried to invite collaborative efforts to no avail. Legal threats and stonewalling will not produce results that help everyone involved... it is more of a financial interest as the cease and desist makes clear. Read the tealeaves. This place is racist they treated me badly did not care for my mental health as a black woman seeking a better life mental health was at the top of my priority list. they denied me care denied me treatment and when I lost everything, my home my children and my job they still denied me help. My hippa rights were violated several times first with a director who only does sessions when your therapist is out of office and she had an employee who had been training in the room without my knowledge or consent. an other time when one of my therapist co workers barged in during my session to ask "what's for lunch" oh and let's not forget the countless amount of times my previous therapist has done video or phone sessions outside of the office or her home I have been diagnosed with with bpd b1 b2 anxiety disorder insomnia on top of all of that I was diagnosed with cancer 2 weeks after my last therapy appointment I needed an outlet I needed help with medication and because I was already with a mental health facility my pcps denied me medication and in my several attempts to locate a new psychiatrist and therapist the waitlist are 6-7 months long for good quality care. these therapist will diagnose black woman and will do nothing to help watch them lose their minds bodies and hope !! this place doesn't see black woman as woman or patients they take our money and leave us for dead! read more

She has been everything you would want from someone who wants their business to be successful, listens to both sides and recognizes that the facts are probably somewhere in the middle. After listening to my and my daughters' experience we have worked out a new arrangement that my daughter is comfortable with. I appreciate that not only did she hear what we had to say but she also was respectful to her employees. this place is horrible. you will be led on for weeks, they will not answer your calls on any of the medline providerline or main line even in a mental health crisis. they will pretend to listen to you, your symptoms, and your side effects and then just prescribe you whatever medicine they decided before hand even if it will make your symptoms worse. they made me suicidal and worse off than before I got "help" from these quacks. save your money and go somewhere where you won't want to die. read more

For starters, if you ever want a phone call back don't plan on it. I have left numerous messages over the course of a year and never receive a return phone call. The first nurse practitioner I was assigned was an abrupt, insensitive, talked over me and all around made pretty inappropriate comments during our sessions. After requesting a change in provider I was accused of abusing medications, to which there was zero evidence supporting this. Fast forward several months when I was really struggling with side effects to medication. I reached out twice (leaving messages of course) requesting for assistance weaning off medication. I was informed by a secretary over the phone on the morning of my next session that my therapist is no longer with the practice, with no further explanation. This was the first I'd heard of it from anybody- there was absolutely no warning and no plan put in place beforehand for alternative treatment of any kind. I was told I would be placed on a wait list for another available therapist, but from what I've experienced with this place I shouldn't expect to hear from them any time in the foreseeable future. It's just not worth the hassle. The healthcare system really is broken. read more
