I've been hauling big plastic bags of empty aluminum cans to the Cohen Brothers location on Ridge…read moreAvenue in Pleasant Ridge for longer than I can remember. I use transparent plastic bags, generally making a run after I've filled five of them - the max I can fit in my car at one time. I've always been impressed with how friendly and helpful the guys are (they are all guys in the recycling area) despite their *strictly functional* and amenity-free [*translation: dirty, grungy and often too hot or too cold] work area and the cashier in the little trailer (nearly always female) is extremely pleasant as she slides under the thick glass pane, the cash you've earned for what you've brought in. Aluminum scrap prices (all other metal scrap in general) fluctuates widely so I never know how much I'm going to make, but it's generally enough to pay for my gas and part of my lunch. Besides, I'd rather get the cash myself than give it away to the guys we *pay* monthly for curbside garbage and recycling pickup!

It was a lot of work getting it in my car but the guys there unloaded it all which was pretty great! They were really nice about it, too. If you're from the Hamilton area, Cohen in Hamilton is in the Champion Mill on the East Side by the Black Street Bridge. You enter right by the bridge. I drove by the entrance. Don't be like me. Turn by the bridge. There's a big Cohen sign. It turns out there are Cohen Recycling places in tons of cities. It's really useful to know where it's safe to take your old computers, TVs and cell phones. ((There's a complete list of what they do and don't take on their website.) You can drop off computers and televisions at no-charge if you're a Butler County resident! (Or maybe your county has a similar program.) Currently it's on these dates: When: Tuesday & Thursday 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Saturday - 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 p.m. Cohen Hamilton: 105 Black St. (Cohen Middletown: - 3120 S. Verity Pkwy.) Went this past Saturday and was surprised to find that they only had the dumpsters up on the hill…read moreopen even though the building was open and a couple of lazy butt men just sitting/standing around doing nothing! Um.. what are they getting paid to do? Visit? Cause if that's the case I'll work for the transfer station too. I'd love to get paid to do nothing like those bums. Do you know how freaking aggravating it is wait in a freaking line to dump your trash while watching these grown butt men do nothing? You're in a hurry and they are laughing and goofing off. Why are they even there? Our tax dollars go to their paychecks and they are doing nothing. If I knew who to contact about this, I would. Cause this needs to change. Either someone needs to talk to them and tell them to get to work or let them go and hire people who'll actual work! What is going on? People shouldn't have to go out of country to get good, quick service. They should be able to get it in their own county. But as of right now you can't do that in Miami Co. They have a bunch of lazy bum men working there. And it's just some of the men. It's not this way every Saturday. Only certain Saturday's. Whoever is in charge of the Transfer Station needs to get their head out of their butts and straighten some guys up or get new ones who will actually work.

Ok, I have to start this by saying it's a smelly place, at least the trash side is. It manages…read moregarbage and smells that way. Trash: to drop off trash, start by stopping on the scale. It's $5 for the first 1000 lbs. you'll need to state how you plan to pay and then your given a key card. Next, they will tell you where to drop off your trash, there are a number of options depending on what you might have. Once that is completed, you proceed back to the scale (outgoing side) and hand them the key card. Easy cheesy. Recycling: you can recycle here too as they have a drop center here too. We have recycling pick up at home so we don't use most of this but we do occasionally drop off cardboard boxes. You can also recycle plastic, paper, aluminum and glass. (Ceramic plates are not glass, don't mix that in.) Bike trail: if you watch as you drive in, just before the gate you'll see a paved trail. That's the Miami Valley Recreation Trail - the same bike trail that goes from Piqua to Cincinnati.

This week, they came at 7:30am and there have been days where they didn't show up at all. At our next condo meeting we will be discussing using another garbage pickup service. I had to call them & was told to leave my garbage out and they would try to send someone out to pick it up. DO NOT USE RUMPKE!!!

We have used their residential waste/recycling for years. Today we ordered a door dash delivery…read more Recycling truck was getting our totes when the door dash driver pulled into the driveway. The Recycle guy got pissy and threw the totes across the driveway so as to block the delivery driver. Driver had to move them before she could back out of the driveway. In no way was the recycle guy hindered by the delivery, yet they felt the need to block her in. Several times we have had to have our totes replaced because they had been broken from rough handling. They at times leave trash in the yard and this time, they didn't even completely empty the one tote. A month or so ago the trash guy broke our mailbox post with the robotic arm. We had a 4" round post snapped off at the ground. Mailbox was damaged as well. The driver never informed us of the accident and never reported it. I called Rumpke and they replaced the post and the mailbox. After the issue with the recycling driver today, we canceled their service. Now we have to leave the trash bin and recycle totes by the road for 7-10 days because they won't step onto our property to retrieve them, and they cannot give us a specific day that they will pick them up. They lost us as a customer.
