Be very wary of the company. After having my truck for week, the made excuse after excuse. Never doing anything. One excuse was their equipment would not hook Up to my 0B11. After towing it home, I watched a few auto repair videos in YouTube and with my el cheapo OB11 reader. I was able to reset the ECM and the BCM to factory settings, on my own. I have zero automotive training. It runs great now. Then they tried to charge me. I asked then to show me the work I was being charged for. Update as of May 4th: As a recap I had stated in a previous review, I had gone in for an oil change and they tried to rip me off. Told me I had balding tires and needed new breaks and rotors all around. The issue was I had put all 4 brand new tires on not even 3 months prior. Its also worth mentioning I was full time furloughed and during quarantine so I had barely driven my car at all. My tires were above 98% tread life. First lie. So I had someone else look at my breaks and rotors to find out they were at 40/50% front to back. Second lie. Fast forward to today. Had another oil change done (not with Gearheadz). When I picked up my car the mechanic tells me the last people that changed the oil filter had left the bolt "almost round". Meaning they tightened it so hard it changed the shape of the bolt. The pic attached is how bad it was. Now I have to get that part replaced too. DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT GO HERE. Idk what happened. I have now heard of others with similar trouble from this auto shop. I went into Gearheads to get a Safety check and they told me that my rear brakes needed to be serviced. I made an appointment and two weeks later. I appeared there and after two hours they told me that they didn't have the parts. I said give me a call when you get the parts in. They ordered a window regulator (upon request) and replaced it this past Wednesday. They serviced my vehicle quickly. The window worked fine but by Sunday, the handle was coming off. The black spacer was found in the door pocket and the wrong sized clip may be the reason why the window handle comes off. I'm taking it back so the issue can be fixed. read more

I want to give a shout out to this business for having amazingly kind and helpful employees. I had the morning from hell and they really turned my day around! I've been waiting 5 months for a vehicle registration appointment happening today. I had an appointment this morning in my town for a safety inspection and when I was on my way there I realized that my right blinker wasn't working. I quickly had to figure out where I could get a replacement bulb and it was over 40 minutes away from my house. So I drove to the Waimea auto parts store, got my bulb, hopped on YouTube and taught myself how to change the bulb. Unfortunately when I went to pop my hood, it wouldn't unlatch and was stuck. The clock was ticking down for me to be able to get the light changed, drive 40 mins home for the safety inspection and then drive all the way back to Waimea for my vehicle registration appointment. I stopped at two different auto body shops for help in popping the hood and no one would take the time to help me. I stopped by Gearheadz with all of my fingers crossed and ran across a really kind worker who graciously helped me pop my hood, then even popped in the light bulb for me, and made sure it was working before I went on my way. I asked if they happened to have openings for a safety inspection and he asked me to check with the front desk. Unfortunately they were backed up with appointments, but the guy at the front desk told me where I could go to a place that accepted walk ins right around the corner. I am now getting my safety inspection and will make it in time for my vehicle registration, I'm so grateful! I will definitely come back here to get all of my mechanic work done going forward. OMG! We are visiting from Oahu and were driving with my aunt's old Avalon. The car was acting up just before Waimea and we didn't know if we were going to even make it there. Luckily we did and found this repair shop. It was busy but Jason came up to me to see what I needed. I told him about what was wrong and that we had a flight to go back home in the afternoon. He was so awesome and told me he could help. He had an idea of what was wrong and told me not to worry while he finished another customer. He drove the car around to confirm the problem then open the hood and explained what he thought was wrong and said what needed to be done to fix it. Luckily, it was drivable and would be able to go back to Hilo. When I asked him for the bill he said it was at no charge. Went to Gearheadz based on a recommendation from a neighbor. This was specific to the State Safety Inspection. Jason and staff were all super friendly and helpful as this was a new process for us. Located next to Napa Auto parts and in close proximity to the DMV where we had to go to register our vehicles. Highly recommend if you need to register your out of state vehicle and are in need of your inspection. It will be explained to you, no need to be intimidated. There is no waiting room or anything like that, but it will not take that much time. read more

Very grateful to the team for walking me through the Hawaii state Safety Check process for vehicles. The process is three steps the first of which Gearheadz requires: insurance card (paper or electronic), current registration document, and a drivers license. Jason made me feel comfortable with the multi-step process. He is very patient and knowledgeable -carefully taking the time to explain the process to me. For the second step, one must go to the DMV to complete the car registration which additionally requires: the shipping bill of lading document, fees for the car registration, and the Safety Check document that Gearheadz will provide to you after a successful completion of the first step. Luckily, Gearheadz has a great location as they are only a couple blocks away from a very nice DMV! At the DMV, among other things, you will receive a pair of license plates. For the last step, one can return to Gearheadz and they will put the license plates on for you in a matter of minutes. That's it - very easy. The shop itself lacks customer seating, but is in walking distance to shops, restaurants with lots of seating. The two processes total at Gearheadz took about 15 minutes --and that includes waiting time. This was the fastest visit I've had to an auto shop ever. Recommended. read more
