On Monday, 23 February 2026, a white delivery van belonging to this shop and driven by the owner turned into the road I was crossing and passed extremely close to me, my husband and our dog. I found the manner of driving to be unsafe and alarming. I am currently pregnant, which made the situation particularly distressing. Had we not moved quickly, I believe there was a real risk of serious injury. I approached the afterwards to raise my concern. No apology was offered, and the interaction was not handled in a professional or constructive manner. I subsequently left a factual Google Review describing the incident. In response, the owner confirmed that both onboard van CCTV and warehouse CCTV captured the event. However, rather than addressing the safety concern directly, his public response included outdated sexist remarks and inappropriate references to unborn children. This was deeply disappointing. It is concerning that a long-standing business would feel the need to resort to personal and gender-based commentary rather than engaging professionally and focusing on the safety issue raised. His response also included statements asserting that an apology had been given. This is categorically incorrect. No apology was offered at any stage. Given both the seriousness of the incident itself and the manner in which it was subsequently handled, I would strongly advise others to exercise caution when dealing with this business, particularly in relation to safety, professionalism, and the accuracy of its responses to legitimate customer concerns. This branch is on Deansgate in Bolton, in the city centre and is fairly close to MarketPlace, the town's main shopping centre. The store is basically a typical Wilko store, albeit it is quite a large size especially compared to other branches such as Harpurhey, and it possibly could stretch to be bigger than my most visited stores in Middleton, Manchester, albeit I can't comment for certain as they are similar. The staff didn't seem really friendly and welcoming, just average and the location could have been better as it could have stood out and been better in the Marketplace Mall, which is nice and has been recently refurbished after putting in a dining quarter. but still the store would be slightly smaller then, yet the location would of course be better so that brings in this situation where Wilko "Can't win" in a way without spending intense amount of money. Overall, there isn't lots of things which makes this store stands out and it sadly is around the average mark, but not enough to warrant anything over two stars I'm sorry to report.

I might also like a bit of pick 'n' mix :) While shopping in the town centre, I was looking for a place that sold pet items since I had struck out at some of the other shops I had been to. As I was walking to the bus stop, I saw this Wilko and thought I would pop in and see if they have what I needed. This store has two floors... home goods, kitchen items, etc. are on the bottom floor while toiletries, cleaning supplies, and pet items are on the ground floor. I forgot how inexpensive Wilko is and will have to go back for some Christmas lights! At the back of the store I found the pet section. While it is not a Pets At Home, it does the trick if you are in a pinch. They sell food, litter, cleaning supplies, and even toys... for dogs, cats, and other small animals. On my way to the till, I did not spot the pick 'n' mix display (probably for the best) and check out was very quick.

They have a decent selection of items, it's a typical pound-shop, you're not going to find something too exciting, but you can spend a couple of quid and hopefully get something useful. The store was a little like a jumble-store, without much organisation, that is typical in pound-shops but with it being hard to find a staff member too, it made it even harder to find the batteries I came in for. Self-service tills for ease of checkout. I would say some items can be found cheaper elsewhere if on offer occasionally, but all in all, it's a decent store which sells basic and mostly cheap items, but most items operate on limited stock when they're gone, they're gone. 3*

I apologise, regular followers (those of you that…read morethere are...?) as you've probably heard this about eleventy billion times already but one day I made myself the most popular girl in my department. How did I achieve such an accolade? Occasionally a staff member would pop out at lunchtime and bring back goodies for everyone. This usually involved those mini Swiss rolls and caramel shortcakes you get in Sainsbury's. One day I was trundling around Poundworld in the Arndale Centre and came across a 'chewy selection' for, of course, a quid, with Drumstick lollies and Snap n' Crackle chews and Refresher bars. I grabbed a few and brought them back to the office, declaring, 'There's retro sweets for everyone.' They were gone within seconds. You forget how much people like to regress to childhood. The next time I added a bag of mini Wham bars into the mix, again, a mere quid. These made the whole thing even more successful. For this reason and many others, I love Poundworld. One of the nicer side effects of the recession, shops like this have been cropping up all over the place in Manchester and they're a welcome addition. I've never had a single problem with a single household product from there, including multipacks loo roll and kitchen cleaners. I bought an enormous Tupperware from there too, great for transporting my amazing cakes. I am a talented baker and will not be modest about my creations. You can save a lot of money in here. That goes without saying. But its easy location and large size make for a very good shopping experience. And what clinched it for me? Four cans of sugar free fizzy Vimto for a quid. Be still my beating heart. No wonder I'm such a regular here. So should you be.

It was brill at Christmas doing all my christmaas shopping and putting it straight into the car utside. On the other hand, I can't deny it is a good store with good prices. I regularly pop in there to buy some lunch - Honey Mustard & Chicken Pasta Salad (Tesco's own brand, I think) is delicious! - and a couple of bargain DVDs. I often pick up movies for £3 or £4.

There is also a Tesco petrol station across from the store by one of the entrances. The store is easily accessible by car or public transport. There are always plenty of bargains to be had. The staff are usually pretty helpful but I often find that the customer services desk is understaffed. The only other problem I have had it the rotation is stock is awful. I often find items that are very short dated or even out of date. Overall a good store with lots of choice but it's a shame it's taken so much of the business away from the main town centre but then if people in the town centre then the shops would still be open so it's a vicious circle.

This turns out to not be the case at all I'm afraid and this place was something of a letdown. Moving house again this year has meant that I have been on the hunt for various household items and this has led me to some interesting stores and this particular establishment will live long in the memory. The first thing to say is that the sign for the store was falling apart and it did not give me high hopes of what I may find inside. It turned out that my negativity was justified as the furniture was poor quality and the shop was generally in a state of disarray. On the whole I can think of many places you should visit before resorting to this establishment.
