This store is fairly new (it's been open less than a year), but it still offers a variety of books, manga, and board games, including vintage items. It's a family-run business, and the whole family are the kind of knowledgeable and enthusiastic geeks you'd want running a comics and games store. The space is small, but there are a couple tables for playing games and the store has tabletop and CCG events going on every day, including regular things like a biweekly Pathfinder campaign. They have all the major comic book labels (DC, Marvel, and Dark Horse; MLP and Star Wars) as well as several indie labels. They had all the major CCG (MtG, Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, MLP, etc.) and tabletop RPG labels (D&D, etc.) as well. One thing I really like is that they offer a subscription service, in which they will hold your favorite comics for you and let you know by phone or email as they come in. There aren't many options in the way of comics and games for younger kids (I have a kindergartner and a preschooler who are geeks-in-training, so this is a big deal for me), but what they do have is appealing to my kids. The staff were very happy to show my kids what they had and I got the feeling that they might be willing to order more kid-oriented stuff, which wasn't the vibe I've gotten from other comic stores in East Texas. Of course, they sell geek gear like shirts and toys and the like, including the Doctor Who Lego-compatible action figures and such. All in all, you could certainly get your collections' staples here. The store itself was a little disorganized, but I got the impression that this was because it's new and will be improved upon. It certainly was eclipsed by the friendliness of the staff. And as a geek girl, it was nice not to get the side-eye by comic book store staff for a change (an experience I get quite a bit in East Texas particularly). The location itself is pretty convenient. The shopping center has adequate parking and it's right off the Loop and easy to find. It's also right near the mall, so it makes for a convenient quick stop after a shopping trip (or a way to escape a shopping trip while your relative or significant other is at the mall). The first time I went in, a few months ago, I noticed that it was a little smelly and that nobody wanted to have anything to do with me, including the staff. I figured it was just an "off day," which everyone is entitled to, so I gave them another shot recently. My second trip was much worse. It smells really bad in there. Terrible BO mixed with odorous food that has been dropped and not cleaned for a long time mixed with the proud "I'm a smoker" stink that was wafting from a few different players; I can't even imagine how horrible the stench will be in their shop during warm months. The atmosphere was vulgar and nobody seemed to mind. Everyone was divided into little cliques that didn't seem inviting. I didn't necessarily need more dice, but I wanted to at least try to support the LGS and their community. I tried again to get someone to help me at the counter, but the employee was too busy playing games as well. Additionally, when someone pointed out who the owner was, I couldn't believe the way he was treating his customers/friends. He was aggressive, combative and antagonistic in a place where he should be encouraging, if nothing else, to the people that are earning him a living. I tried to give them a second chance, but they've fully earned my dislike. There are two other gaming stores in Tyler: the one south of town doesn't support the game I play, but the staff seemed friendly enough. The one on the east side of town seems a perfect fit for me and my gaming needs: family appropriate, friendly encounters with painting customers and employees I would recommend trying those two first to see if they'll meet your collecting/hobby desires. They have a great selection, though prices are higher than MSRP and can verge into scalping territory for some products despite them being easily found online. Easily solved by...buying online. The card playing experience is amazing though and just night and day compared to the other card store I used to go to in town. I had become used to people being awkward, standoffish, unreceptive to social interaction, and dealing with overbearing store rules. It was turning me away from Magic The Gathering because I was starting to think that's what it was like. But here at Geek World? The people act normal. They're talking, joking, and having fun. The employees are chill and a joy to interact with. You can find a few groups playing every day even outside of events. Friday Night Magic is incentivized to be extra friendly because instead of a prize pack, the first person to take combat damage gets a promo pack. With nobody pulling out all the stops to win, games are balanced and fair. Honestly, this place reignited my desire to play by completely changing the environment in which I do so for the better. read more

I just got introduced to magic and went to buy some cards. The guy that runs the place was very encouraging for one which is awesome, because I dont know what I'm doing and his attitude was so chill. He answered my questions and helped me decide what to buy. He even offered to run me through a few games with my new cards to help me get familiar with them! Their prices are fair and while they may not be that big they are who I would recommend for someone looking for gifts for gamers of all ages. They have something for everyone. It can be intimidating walking into a store like that not knowing what you are looking for. Just ask! Their customer service truly impressed me!
