Titled "Gekooide Vrijheid" (Caged Freedom) it is by Eindhoven artist Hans van Eerd (1941). The unveiling here in 1987 on Wilhelminaplein celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Amnesty International organization.
It is about 4 meters (12 feet) tall and made of bronze. Standing on a slightly raised dais with two figures, it depicts the theme of human rights. At the center is a vertically oriented bird-like shape, symbolizing the desire of every human being to be free and escape from any form of oppression.
