Best gelateria in Verona. Maybe Italy. During our four week stay in Verona my husband and I worked our way through the top five gelaterias in Verona we found on a travel blog. Since finding this one we haven't been able to go anywhere else. It seems senseless. I can not be overstated how much we love the gelato here. On day trips we wait I til we get "home to Verona" to have gelato. I fell in love with the Amarena cherry with Grappa Amarone wine on top and my husband the liquirizo with cherry on top. Both heavenly flovour combinations. And the Grappa Amarone flavored I've yet to see anywhere else. read more

Came here for gelato.The place is cozy and clean. The staff is a little abrupt so don't take too long deciding XD (sidenote: this does not affect my rating as I understand I am a tourist and need to be the one adjusting) They have a decent variety of flavors. We got the chocolate and rum with verona cake pieces. Chocolate Gelato- The chocolate flavor was nice and deep with a creamy finish. Unfortunately, it was on the icy side and not as smooth as gelato is supposed to be. Rum with Verona Cake Pieces- This was a fun unique flavor! You can taste the alcohol and the cake pieces provide a layer of texture. Unfortunately, it was also icy and not smooth. Came here twice to refresh myself with some frozen sweets on a hot summer day. The first time was a lovely guava push-up for 1.90 euros. For some reason, I thought it was supposed to be mango, so I thought the taste was a bit off until my friend explained what the flavor was supposed to be. My second visit was 3 euros for a Gianduiotto -- a lovely concoction of chocolate ice cream and whole nuts, topped with whipped cream, hot chocolate sauce, and a cookie wafer. Frozen desserts are one of my 3 favorite foods and Italian gelato is at the top of that group for me. I was very excited to sample Gelateria Savoia. It is clearly a very old establishment with antique functioning fixtures and many, many flavors of gelato and frozen grappa. I was initially surprised to find that the gelato is not visible. Only the names of the flavors can be viewed. This may be a standard with older refrigeration systems but, of course, takes away the visual stimulation of the choice. I started with my standard for this trip, chocolate and amarone to try to allow a more accurate comparison. The flavors were pleasingly dense and complex, as I expected, but the texture was more of a semifreddo or what would be called soft serve in the US. This made it melt much more rapidly than other harder frozen gelati I have tried. Serving sizes began at 2 flavors or due gusti but were smaller, for the same price, than the much newer, less charming Gelateria next door which also had comparably rich, flavorful gelato but 1/10 the atmosphere. This is a classic venue, of some historical import, not to be missed on a gelato tour of the Veneto. It is, in my experience, in the top 10 in Italy, but not the place I would limit myself to for a multi-day visit. read more

Don't go here! We had the worst gelato of our 6 weeks in Italy (we had gelato twice a day). It is fake, with disgusting flavors. So artificial it burns your tongue. You can find much better gelato in Verona. We would never go again and were so disappointed with it. An utter waste of money and time. Avoid at all costs. read more
