Expecting it to be there one year, I walked over to Piazza Navona and Gelateria Navona had evidently closed. I would then get gelato here and there. I then learned that Giolitti is a long standing gelateria and it's also in the historic center. I filed the name away in my head. Then, one day, I happened to walk right in front of it without even looking for it, so I went in. Giolitti is popular and it can be crowded. I'm going to say that I waited about 10 to 15 minutes. You pay at a counter first, deciding on what you want and how much of it, such as scoops and whether it will be in a cup or a cone. Once up at the counter, they don't rush you, which surprised me. I don't take that much time since I don't experiment much, but I still appreciate the courtesy. The price is roughly what everyone else in the historic center is charging. I always opt for the gelato it in a cup so you can "control" the dripping. The gelato - a mix of dark chocolate and two citrus flavors - was "molto buono." That said, just because it's so popular, I'm not going to downgrade Giolitti for it and complain about the crowds. You downgrade gourmet donut places in the U.S. where their fame has gone to their heads. There is also a spacious salon with nicer decor in which you can eat inside. At this point, Giolitti is really the only gelateria in Rome whose name I remember. I would gladly go back and I recommend it.

We woke up early in the morning and found this grand yet cozy cafe with sandwiches in the display case in the back. The ordering was a bit chaotic because we were seated and we ordered two capuccinos (1.50 EUR each), but had to go up to the display case to choose what we wanted to eat. My boyfriend went up first and then I had to go up second, without our server following us and ordering separately to various staff members that worked there. He got his typical ham and cheese and I got a salami with artichoke (both were standard tasting, small in portion, and 3 EUR each). While my bf was up choosing his sandwich, I asked for tiramisu and our server told me there wasn't any (From this point on, we were conversing in very poor mix of English, Italian, French, Spanish between the two of us). I pointed to the glass case that had a personal sized tiramisu in a bowl and he said something italian in response. I didn't understand him, but we were rounding out the end of our trip and I haven't had any, so despite it was 9am, I was adamant about having this tiramisu so he relented somehow. As we were served the sandwiches, he came to tell us the tiramisu will need to wait for 10 minutes and I was happy about that. When the tiramisu came in 5 minutes, I realized what the problem was. That tiramisu was frozen. It tasted like ice cream tiramisu and we worked hard at hacking away using our available utensils. But again, I was dedicated to having this delicious looking tiramisu and it indeed was amazingly delicious. Although my boyfriend thought I was crazy for having ordered it, he helped quite a bit, but we still couldnt finish this large portion and wondered what the price of it was. 7 EUR. Expensive but worth it! When I went up to the cash to pay, we were handed the bill of 16 EUR that included the 2xcap, 2xsandwich, 1 tiramisu, without mistake, despite the chaos before. The owner asked how I liked the tiramisu with a giant grin on his face and I laughed knowing he's laughing about my weird order and replied, BUONO!
