Amazing!!!! Wanted to update with pictures because it's simply delicious and we truly miss the ambiance.
Literally the best gelato I've ever had in my life. The flavors are so fresh and palatable. The prices are also extremely worth it. I think it was like 4 Euro for a 'small' which is the size from my pictures. The servers were all very quick and professional. I really appreciated how much effort the workers put into their jobs. And the interior was SUCH a vibe. It was like an old-fashioned creamery with very classic tables and chairs.
On a random weekday we came here for a swee t treat after lunch seeing all the great reviews. We ordered stuff at the counter and just stood inside since we'd just come from a nice lunch and didn't want a sit down service again. We got a pistachio cannoli which was topped with so many pistachios.. the filling was light, the outer shell was perfectly crispy. Overall just delightful.. but the true hero of this spot for me was their hot chocolate. It was thick, dark and not too sweet.. a perfect combination when it comes to hot chocolate. It was sooo good that we came back again just for their hot chocolate. They have a dining room inside with plenty of seating so maybe next time I'll do that. Highly recommend this spot.. the reviews don't lie!!
Old world charm! On the recommendation of our apartment host, we visited Giolitti for a gelato. The café is just beautiful - it exudes old world charm with elegant wood panelled interiors and glass display cases filled with delicious looking food. The coffee is nothing special, but the gelato was sublime!
Came to get the gelato here because of the raving reviews. We came late on a Tuesday night and waited around 15 minutes in line. You pay first with what size you want and if you want cup/cone. Felt rushed ordering, they gave us a cone even though we paid for a cup. Make sure you know what you want before hand because he did not like when we asked what the flavor profile difference was between lemon and limoncello (we tried looking it up in line but unfortunately there's no signal here). Pistachio gelato was really delicious nice and creamy!! I prefer pistachio bits in my pistachio gelatos for added texture which this one didn't have but that's not to say the gelato wasn't amazing it's more of a persona preference. The lemon was very tarty and refreshing!
This was one of our favorite gelato spots across all of the cities we visited in Italy! The place is massive and there was a large crowd of people, as it deserves. You order the size you want and pay at the register, and then take your ticket to the counter to order your flavors. I got the pistachio and dark chocolate, and o m g was this delicious. Maybe it was because it was my first gelato in Italy but I was actually mind blown by how good it was. I've had my fair share of gelato, but the flavor and texture of this was perfection - so smooth, and the pistachio and dark chocolate flavors were so intense and rich. I can still remember being astonished by how good they tasted. There is a lot of good pistachio gelato out there, but this one was something special for sure. Highly highly recommend trying!
A great gelato spot that was in an easily reachable location - they do not offer seating for their customers who only order gelato though, only for those ordering food/drinks. You pay at the cashier and bring your receipt over to another line to get your gelato. Lines move quickly though. The ambiance is casual. They have lots of flavors - we tried the pistachio and salted caramel, both of which were delicious. The salted caramel was sweeter than I expected.

You can only eat in if you don't order the to go options otherwise if you get to go you won't be allowed to eat inside. Overall it has the ambience of a milkshake shop!
In the past, I knew of Gelateria Navona, just a few doors up from the actual piazza, and that was my go-to place for gelato in Rome. Expecting it to be there one year, I walked over to Piazza Navona and Gelateria Navona had evidently closed. I would then get gelato here and there. I then learned that Giolitti is a long standing gelateria and it's also in the historic center. I filed the name away in my head. Then, one day, I happened to walk right in front of it without even looking for it, so I went in. Giolitti is popular and it can be crowded. I'm going to say that I waited about 10 to 15 minutes. You pay at a counter first, deciding on what you want and how much of it, such as scoops and whether it will be in a cup or a cone. Once up at the counter, they don't rush you, which surprised me. I don't take that much time since I don't experiment much, but I still appreciate the courtesy. The price is roughly what everyone else in the historic center is charging. I always opt for the gelato it in a cup so you can "control" the dripping. The gelato - a mix of dark chocolate and two citrus flavors - was "molto buono." That said, just because it's so popular, I'm not going to downgrade Giolitti for it and complain about the crowds. You downgrade gourmet donut places in the U.S. where their fame has gone to their heads. There is also a spacious salon with nicer decor in which you can eat inside. At this point, Giolitti is really the only gelateria in Rome whose name I remember. I would gladly go back and I recommend it.
That was good. I like the pomegranate flavor. Their gelato was a lot cleaner and refreshing. Sour cherry flavor was very strong.
All things you want in gelato in Italy. Definitely order and sit in the back room(there's a different charge for to go vs inside seating). Hardest part of the situation is picking your flavor(s). Also this is very near the Pantheon so Your tour is not complete until you get the gelato.
While traveling in Italy, a family member highly recommended Giolitti's gelatos. So, when we were in Rome, we found a branch near where we stayed and decided to try it. The gelato is superb! They have many flavors, and you can choose a few for your cone or cup. The larger size lets you mix more flavors. On our first visit, we tried about four or five different flavors and loved them so much that we stopped for a second time a couple of days later. Their gelatos are very flavorful and not too sweet compared to the average ice cream and gelato in the US. The line was long, so you might have to wipe your mouth often if you're drooling too much while looking at all the gelato options. The staff is very quick and helpful. It's an experience worth trying if you are in Rome.
Wow!!! Amazing gelato here!! I know there are many gelato places to choose from, but you have to try this place and compare it to other places and you will see the difference. The line was very very long when we got there. Don't be afraid to get in line though since the line moves quickly! We were out in the street waiting and line was constantly moving. You paid for the size of gelato and then you stand in another line to get the flavors you want. There's indoor seating, but you are not allowed to sit there if you are just ordering the gelato. There's a line to sit in the cafe.

A classic 120 year old gelateria with classic 1950s service seating and if you take the "self service" you have to take your gelati outside to enjoy. Enter and pay for your order at the cashier on the left first, then line up to make your choice(s). Our kids wanted to go because Zendaya and Tom Holland love it here. They have good taste! We had the following flavours: dark chocolate and sour cherry (vegan), pistacchio, nocciola (hazelnut), gianduja (hazelnut & chocolate), raspberry, coffee. All were delicious! read more

Giolitti is the best gelato I've ever had in my life hands down. The flavors are endless my favorites are pistachio, white cream, white chocolate, and coffee. The cream that they put on top of the gelato is the icing on the cake. The line moved quick they have an amazing system in place and the service was great. I think about this place often. The vintage ambiance was amazing you can tell there is history there. I think of Giolitti often I can't wait till I'm back in Rome so I can have it again! read more

You order the size you want and pay at the register, and then take your ticket to the counter to order your flavors. I got the pistachio and dark chocolate, and o m g was this delicious. Maybe it was because it was my first gelato in Italy but I was actually mind blown by how good it was. I've had my fair share of gelato, but the flavor and texture of this was perfection - so smooth, and the pistachio and dark chocolate flavors were so intense and rich. Expecting it to be there one year, I walked over to Piazza Navona and Gelateria Navona had evidently closed. I would then get gelato here and there. Probably the best gelato I had in Rome, if not very close. It was both thick and creamy and the flavors were rich and a wide range of them. I went back twice to confirm how I felt about it. My favorite coffee flavored gelato stop. Loved the old school feel of Giolitti. It was very crowded on both my visits, but the line moves quickly. Their system is that you pay first and pick out your flavors after, which can be a little confusing. Definitely a staple worth visiting. read more
Our Airbnb was few blocks away from this place, there was always a line here so decided to check it out. The gelato was just okay, nothing special. They have sir down service and to go as well, you pay a little extra with sit down table service. Staff is super friendly. I'd though skip the place if looking for authentic gelato flavors. read more

Super popular gelato shop that opens late! Pay first at the front then head to the counter to get your gelato in either a cone or cup. It was 10:30 PM, but still busy with a lot of people enjoying their gelato outside. Theres a lot of flavors to choose from. I went for a small which includes two flavors: I picked strawberry and pistachio. The gelato was so good! The flavors were rich and the consistency was perfect. They have a lot of reviews for good reason - they have really good gelato. Highly recommend this spot for gelato in Rome! read more

Did some Research to find the best gelato in town and noticed this was a very hotspot so I put my GPS on and started to walk for about 10 minutes and it was worth it when we arrived It was only a few people there in line so I started to make mine and then I realized once I got up to the gelato station you had to purchase your ticket at the register first and show the gelato server your ticket so that way they can make your selections. Soon a huge crowd started film the place causing me drop my gelato on the floor. One of the servers saw what happened and I took my order again. the parlor was so authentic and old-fashioned with staff was friendly most importantly the gelato was so good especially with the added whipped cream on top, there was seating inside and outside, and they not only have exotic gelato flavors, They also have baked goods and coffee too. read more

Founded in 1890, Giolitti is the oldest ice cream parlor in Rome. Before heading to the counter, pay at the register to obtain a ticket. I went with the stracciatella and pistachio. I preferred the stracciatella, but both were yummy! We took our gelato to go, as you have to pay a fee if you want to sit at one of their tables. The scoops were generous and a bigger cup would work better as it was overflowing and dripping. read more
Continuing the trend I established in Firenze, I made it my intention to try as many gelaterias as I could while in Roma. We had finished a late lunch/early dinner near the Trevi Fountain and before heading back to our hotel we decided to get some. I had Giolitti bookmarked, and due to the high number of reviews (way more than other gelaterias), we thought it would be a good introduction to gelato in Roma, so off we went. As we approached I could tell this wouldn't be like other gelaterias we've been to as the sheer size of it was much larger than a standard one. There's a huge sign out front and once inside we were greeted by a large retail area. There are multiple counters selling a multitude of confections/pastries in addition to gelato, and there's a separate room on the side with tables where they offer table service. The decor is very welcoming - classic ice cream shop/confectionary aesthetics. They made it very clear that all the tables were *not* for those who were getting counter service treats, only for those who will be sitting and receiving table service. We didn't feel like sitting, so we got our gelato to go. They operate on a ticket system, so we placed our order at one counter, they gave us a receipt, and then we went to the counter scooping the gelato to provide the receipt and receive our goods. I was feeling like a cone this visit so I had one with three flavors: rum, walnut, and Sicilian cream. The gelato itself was very good, creamy and smooth - and outside the flavors I got, they have several interesting one in addition to the classics. Service was a sore spot for me, they seemed to really have no tolerance for tourists and hence were slightly abrupt - which is ironic as this was probably the most touristy gelateria I visited in Italy. The experience is important to me, hence the 3 - but if you can look past it you'll get good gelato here. I would be willing to give them another try but would want to try other gelaterias in Roma first. read more

These gelatos were SOOO good!!! This was my first time trying a gelato. I noticed so many ppl walking by with gelatos so I followed the crowd to this spot. Inside was so cute. They have cookies, wine and a seating area. Okay so on to the gelato-There were SOOO many flavors to choose from. I got half chocolate and half caramel and it was such a delicious mix!! I'm ready to go back and try other flavors tomorrow. read more

For all my American tourists visiting Rome: going to Giolitti for your first ice cream is a MUST. It is quite literally the best gelato I have ever tried. The fruit flavors especially taste just like their non-ice cream equivalent. Each bite tastes fresh, flavorful and even better than the last. The gelato is also very light and not at all difficult to digest. It's the perfect snack after a long day visiting all the historical monuments of Rome or even better end to any meal. I truly cannot recommend it enough. Do your taste buds a favor and visit Giolitti's! read more

The BEST gelato ever!! I'm so glad we hit this gelato spot and didn't let the long line and crowds stop us! The lines were going all the way outside of the building. And the line was consistently long! It never went down. People just kept showing up for gelato. It was insane. But after trying the gelato, I get it lol It's bomb gelato! The flavors are great. And there's a good variety of gelato flavors. I got the WHITE CHOCOLATE and blueberry. The white chocolate was my favorite! Soooooooo sweet and delicious! 10/10 My husband got the caramel and Oreo. The caramel was good. But the Oreo was too heavy on the Oreo and not enough cream filling flavor. Still, the flavors were spot on! read more

Absolutely incredible gelato! This place had so many flavors to choose from--it was honestly hard to decide because everything looked amazing. The gelato tasted unbelievably fresh and authentic, with rich, natural flavors that really stood out compared to anything I've had elsewhere. You can tell it's made with high-quality ingredients. Portions were generous and the prices were very reasonable, especially for the quality you're getting. If you're in Italy and love gelato, this spot is a must-visit. You really can't go wrong with gelato in Rome, but if you can only go to one place, come here! They have a pretty good system where you pay in the line up front and then go to the back with your ticket to get your scoop(s). Vibes are very fun and it feels almost like an old time candy shop inside. I got the strawberry and cream which was amazing though all flavors seem to be incredible. THIS. This is the place to get gelato in Rome. We ate at four different gelato places and this one was by far the best of them all and honestly the best gelato I've ever had. I had the amaretto and coffee flavors and my husband had the amaretto and dark chocolate. The gelato was so full of flavor but not in a fake or overly sweet way. It was creamy but also still very cold, perfect texture. Also the amaretto flavor was insanely good, so don't miss this one if you like that nutty taste! I am bummed that we found this place on our last night, I wish I could go again and again! read more
When we arrived, I honestly thought we'd fallen into a total tourist trap. It looked super busy and a little chaotic but I was pleasantly surprised! We were in and out in under 10 minutes, even though I expected to be stuck in line for at least 15-20. They have a great system: you pay first, then place your order with the staff scooping the gelato. Super efficient. The gelato itself? Easily top 3 I've ever had. Creamy, flavorful, and totally worth the hype. I got a medium size with a cone, which came with three huge scoops. Definitely worth stopping by! read more
