I went to Dr Vissor my whole life untill he retired and then I was a patient of Dr Moore SR, he was great and my eyes are a real challenge. I moved to Florida and Dr Moore retired. I couldn't find anyone in Florida to fit me correctly with gas perm contact lenses. I flew back to Flint and was treated awesome by Dr Davies and Dr Moore Jr. They are excellent Dr's and finally I can see. Thank you so much and I highly recommend General Optical! read more

I made an appointment with general optical for me and my daughter. I wanted my scripts, so I could get glass is made elsewhere. Said that I had to pay. It's $30 because my pupil distance was not on my script. Anybody in their right mind would not even deal with them. No one else does this. Would never deal with them again, run, run, run.n read more

Would have rated a 5 because they were super patient with my 8 year old daughter, but at the very end of the exam she was too curious and touched a lense on the exam machine with the eye doctor from FERRIS STATE UNIVERSITY.... the other staff was POLITE. He made a snarky remark about who would clean the lense and she said she would. He huffed and with an attitude cleaned the lense himself. I get that she touched your expensive machine with one finger and the lense is impacted but the remark to make her feel bad about her eye exam and curiosity was not needed. I will be taking her to a less hole in the wall kind of place next time. The eye doctor was the meanest one. She's 8! read more

I was going to make an appointment, until I read the reviews. It's been years since I've been there, and they were great to deal with. I wonder, if being a family owned business, that the new doctors inherited too much to care about the job. I'll be looking for another place to go. Makes me feel bad. read more

If anyone knows me, I'm all about great customer service! General optical is a great place to take care of your eyes. The staff is always very profesional, helpful, patient, and very kind. It's very easy to make an appointment by phone or online. Their eye exams are not expensive compared to some of the other optical facilities. The staff makes you feel very welcomed, as if your family, and not rushed as if your just another sale. The optometrist is quick and efficient and you can ask all the "dumb" questions you want WITHOUT them getting upset. They also refer you to outside sources if they can't meet the needs you are looking for. They don't have a huge selection of glasses but enough to please a crowd. So overall my experience here has been a good one. read more

So I had a appointment at 2:30pm. I had to wait because they dont get back from lunch until 2:45pm. I had to leave work for this appointment & my car has no AC so I get there and my temp is 100. No shocker there the temp outside was 92. So the guy tells me to wait outside....you want me to wait outside and it is 92 to see if my body temp goes down? I am already sweating and hot. He takes my temp again 5 minutes later and shocker it is still 100. So they rescheduled me for a date 2 weeks from now. Nope not happening. I will take my business else where. I told him if he let me cool off somewhere in the store my temp would go down but nope they cant so that for ya apparently. Over prices and not customer friendly. read more

I have went to General Optical for over 20 yrs. The last yr I bought 2 pair of glasses. I have had the one pair in to be fixed more times then I can count. I had these same one before and loved them no problems. The last time I took them in they admitted they should of had 2 bushings not one. So I'm suppose to live with this when it's their fault. By the way I pay out of pocket. They have lost a customer. They should fix these right, instead I'm wearing my old glasses which I'm sure is great for my eyes. Every since the first Dr. Moore left it has went down hill and the one in Fenton is no better. read more

Rude and unhelpful- this is a theme in all these reviews. 17 yr old had an appt, we wait a month. She set up the appt. Her adult sister drove her to the appt, they refused to see her because it was not the parent. Ok, I offered to leave work and drive the 10 min to get there. I was told that was too late, supposedly they give a 10 min grace period and will cancel your appt otherwise. As I was 11 min, they would not see me. I offered to email consent for the sister to be seen, and I could finish filling out the paperwork when I got there. Nope, they said do not have email (what?!). It had to be handwritten. I again said this is verbal convent, I am on my way- but nope, not again. I also asked them if they were willing to lose my 10 person family's business over minute(s) late- and they said yes. The frames are high priced at General Optical. Even with Molina coverage, my daughter paid $130 for a junky frame. The frame broke 10 months later, and they said," Sorry No Guarantee." She went to Walmart, and bought new glasses. The total price was $78 for the glasses, and a year warranty. General Optical has poor customer service too. She had to wait an hour to even be seen by the optometrist. Never again!!! read more

Customer service is not their priority. I tried General Optical for the first time in April of this year. The staff seemed friendly and accommodating. The doctor sent me home with two pair of trail contacts. After trying these contacts out, both were not as comfortable as I prefer my contacts to be. I called the store, they said it was no problem but I'd still have to come in for my appointment. The lady said she could get me in right away, but in fact she couldn't get me in until one day prior to my scheduled appointment. One day wouldn't make a difference so I told her I keep my same appointment. But apparently there was some miscommunication. I missed my appointment. I called back and the person that answered the phone said that I needed to come back in, but I HAD to wear the contacts that I told them were uncomfortable. Since I was unwilling to wear the contacts that were not compatible for my eyes, they refuse to finalize my prescription. Not only that, I was not offered to come in and get a new trial pair, they did not say I could still come in and talk to the doctor, I've called at least three times I've emailed them twice and I still have not gotten any answers, no one has put in any effort to contact me back or try to resolve the situation. Not only have I had to miss two days of work, I wasted $115. I still have NO contacts, NO perception. This establishment has caused me nothing with stress. read more

This place has went down hill. Very over priced. My last appt. I went to Fenton office. My husband had an appt. at Burton and it took forever. We could of went to Fenton got the exam and been home by the time they got him in. If they want to stay in business they better have more compative prices. Not everyone has eye insurance. They messes up my glasses so bad that I can't wear them. I have bifocals, which I have in my old glasses. They are trying to tell me that I have to tilt my head up to be able to see. That's BULL I don't have to tilt my head with old glasses. Can't see looking straight ahead or trying to read. Asked for a refund and was told that they "DON'T DO THAT". I was told I could come in Monday to talk to the manager about it. Well, the manager was hiding in the back and wouldn't come out to talk to me. That was about 10:45. At 11:30, I called and was told, once again that the "manager" was unavailable. I left a message, no reply. Called at 12 and was told that she was at lunch. DO NOT GO TO GENERAL OPTICAL. I purchased my glasses from the Fenton location, but dealt with the very poor customer service at the Burton location. My glasses were two weeks old when the lens fell out in my lap at an out-of-state show. It was an obvious faulty screw or frame and could not be fixed by two separate optical facilities. I need these glasses to drive and asked that a new frame be sent to me for lens fitting. The owner of the company would not accommodate me forcing me to purchase new frames so I could drive. I have been going to this location for over 20 years. The customer service has went down hill! I went in today with a simple request of assistance with taking off safety shields off of a pair of safety glasses . The so called eye wear expert informs me that because the glasses were ordered with permanent side shields she could not remove them . I tried explaining to her that I did not order the permanent side shields, & have had removable shields on every other pair of glasses that I have bought from them. I have always paid Cash for every pair of glasses for my self & immediate family ! I informed her that if she didn't remove the shields that my family or me will never set foot back into general optical again . I was promptly told that would be fine ? I guess losing the business of approximately 15 family members aka existing patients will not hurt their bottom line ??? 15x$350.00 min. per prescription = $5250.00 ? The whole area around this location is going down hill,there are more closed-places for business than than open ? Good luck keeping the doors open?! read more
