Nicely stocked neighbourhood grocery store…read more Customers run into neighbours usually each and every visit. Employees were friendly and very helpful to the point at the checkout the sacker spoke up about a special price on 3 boxes of Chex cereal as my mother in law was making the second batch of Chex Mix. Everything we needed was there - though she was looking for Chocolate Orange and they didn't have any. So close to Christmas the place was packed though and it was difficult to navigate. Given how much snowfall there was the parking lot was in need of another scraping. And also given how far north it is and the amount of snow St Ignace receives I think they should have a longer entry area to make sure snow covered boots can be shed of the snow instead of making the whole store's floor slick and wet as you walk and it melts off.

Bought 134.00 of gas, went in to use the bathroom and buy a couple candy bars. Went to check out…read moreand realized I needed to spend 10.00 to use my credit cards I look in my purse for cash, the attendant asked if I was buying gas... ( as if using the bathroom was going to cost me 7.16, I replied yes my husband was filling up my car. Drove away and thought it was an odd conversation. We headed to the state park to see the falls. BUT the story doesn't end there... on our way back we bought a post card and snacks. Again thought we would use the bathrooms before we left the town the attendant watch me knock on the door repeatedly and said nothing... my husband knocked on the men's room and no answer both doors locked. We left and went across the street to the post office to mail the postcard, came back my husband walked in to use the bathroom thinking who ever was done he confronted the attendant and asked why the doors are locked.. "I just cleaned them" she replied she had locked the bathroom an hour before close and refused to unlock the doors. Totally RUDE, Nasty we spent 150.00 gas and snacks to be refused a bathroom

A vendor in the electronics department was my first contact and though he wasn't a Walmart employee he approached and asked if I needed help as soon as I got that confused look on my face, and was very helpful. Because he wasn't a Walmart employee he was unable to answer a final question and directed me to the department manager who was clearly annoyed and only assisted me after I continued to press for assistance. As I continued wandering around the store while waiting for my wife I needed some assistance and encounter number three was initiated by a Walmart employee stocking shelves who went out of her way to walk me to my destination. My final contact came at checkout - self scan - where a very pleasant, friendly lady greeted me, assisted me and wished me a Happy New Year! The store was clean, well lit, lots of people working to keep the shelves stocked. Lots of parking, and the lot was well maintained despite 10+ inches of snow in the previous 48 hours. I've been in Walmart stores in many different states over the years, this one appears to be well managed and most people were helpful and friendly.

Doud's is a small market, but it has lots of stuff. As far as I know, this is one of the only markets on Mackinac Island. There actually is another Doud's down Main Street toward the ferry area, but it's a smaller grab-and-go convenience store, mostly with snacks and coffee. My hotel was right across the street, so I bopped into Doud's a couple of times during my stay, to grab a bottle of wine (they have a decent selection of wine), some candy for my kids, and some fruit because I needed to eat something fresh. The store is tidy and everything is arranged nicely. They also have self-checkout kiosks, so you can get in and out quickly.
