In the meantime, I've found another provider that I'm delighted with. The NP actually seems interested and helpful instead of apathetic and passive-aggressive. Learn some lessons, Genesis. **I was unaware that Yelp would simply replace my original review with my updated comment. I guess I should have copied and pasted it first. Long story short (not really), my medication management provider saw me for almost a year with no issues. She left in October 24 and I was never informed. Found out by emailing her in November about a refill. Then I got an auto response that she was gone as of 10-31-24. I also had a previously scheduled appointment with her in a few days. No one from Genesis reach ever reached out to me. I had to call and set up an appointment with a new person. The new person, Jasmine Jones seemed disinterested and obviously had never read my file. Made several passive-aggressive comments and came off rather judgy and awkward. We discussed my medications and I told her of my complex medical history (that was already in my file) and that my previous med mgr & other doctors were all aware of my treatments and meds. She gave no indication there was a problem. Shortly thereafter, I received an email saying Genesis could no longer provide me with medication management. It was rather odd since I'd been going to them for a year with no issues, and nothing in my patient file or situation had changed. Basically, patient abandonment. I was left without medications I'd been on for a year. And I was left without any real explanation of why they abandoned me. The BS explanation I was provided only said that due to my complex medical history, they could no longer see me. But the explanation didn't explain why they could previously see me for a year with no issues, when I had the same medical history and nothing had changed. It didn't explain why all of a sudden there seemed to be some issue. They refused to answer questions or actually explain what the problem was. Totally unprofessional. read more

Went for medication management appointment after testing and initial meeting. I was told they would not refill the medications I had been on for over 4 years because the doctor felt I had a substance abuse problem. I was forced to deal with weeks of withdrawal symptoms. I have not had a drink in months and still no help and told I need to go to their substance abuse councilor. This place is so unprofessional and has no interest in helping others. TERRIBLE! Apparently, my insurance lapsed and I wasn't aware. They don't check, so I had an appointment and was charged over $400 for a 15 minute phone call. If I could turn back time I would have never gone. The doctor was OK, but diagnosed me with something I definitely don't have. I wouldn't recommend anyone going here. They're so dang greedy! *** This appointment was back in 2022 or 2023. It was at the Williamsburg office. I did not get a courtesy call about that but I had already been a patient. I was told it was my job to verify. The appointment was virtual and it absolutely did last 15 minutes as it was about an allergic reaction to a medication. read more

Great experience with a range of counselors over a number of years. They transitioned us to a fabulous counselor when ours moved and handled the shift seamlessly. The office has its range of snafus but staff always worked to make quick corrections and were easy to reach. Finding a counselor that clicks with you is always a process, but we have had great experiences here. read more

Awful. Absolutely awful. My daughter is a college student in another state. Her medication therapist, Dr. Bell, left without notifying us and her replacement is now refusing to have a telehealth appointment with my daughter OR refill her prescriptions because she's out of state. This has never been an issue before. My daughter is nearly out of medication and won't be back in the state until Spring Break! The new therapist presented roadblock after roadblock - completely unhelpful. She wouldn't refill in my daughter's college town, wouldn't refill locally for me to pick up and mail to my daughter, and refused to speak with me to find a workable solution on my daughter's request. She's an established patient! Who leaves established patients without medication for 6 weeks??? How is this a Christian-based business?!? read more

Well Dr. Hertz was great but she left recently for maternity leave. BRENT GRIFFIN on the other hand is not equipped to be a doctor. He talks to you like a dumb kid. I've been seen the last 2 years for medication management at Genesis counseling by Dr Bell. I've been on the same medication for the last 3 years. Thru another mental health facility and now Genesis. Then she abruptly left. I never got a call from her. I called to schedule an appointment and was told I was assigned to someone new. Denise Akinaju. I've seen her once. She talked with me and filled the medication. Now, this month..I can't reach her. I've called twice, not to be annoying. I've messaged 3x thru the patient portal letting her know how urgent it is. The office closes today. They probably won't open u til after the new year. I have to fly for work Jan 2-8. It's not like I can just drive to any pharmacy out of state to pick up a controlled substance...when they feel like responding back to the message. Instead of responding to my refill request, I was called by a receptionist to schedule an appointment, as if I'm a new patient or asking for something new? Like I'm paying these people almost $300 out of pocket for some reason, and my insurance is also paying these people and it's just really frustrating to know yourself and know what you need...but either there is a lack of familiarity because this person just started seeing me or they just don't want to respond to my question. Am I supposed to wait until January 27th 2025 to refill my medication and go without until then because their next available appointment is January 27th 2025?? I am very frustrated. I read the reviews on yelp. I see others say the same things. That is so disappointing to know we are going thru things in life that we cannot handle yet, the place we reach out to gives us the same stressful emotions. read more

Waited 6 months for a intake appointment, was told there was not a waiting list but they would call me the month prior to move up appointment before school started. Did not receive any notification until Friday before Monday appointment which was fine, must not have had openings. Paid 139$ due to high deducible plan for 30 minute virtual appointment and scheduled follow up testing appointment for my son the following week. Was called two hours prior to testing appointment informing me the testing would be close to $450 dollar due at the time of service or it would need to be rescheduled until a time it can be paid up front. When asked about rescheduling was offered testing appointment months out and informed another intake may be needed which would be another charge and the results session would be another $139. I understand they have no control over my deductible but the communication could have been improved as well as the empathy from the representative. It sounded like she was happy I was canceling because it was one less patient to deal with for the day, or that's the perception I got. If I would have known the week prior when scheduling I could have made arrangements to make the appropriate payment but finding out two hours before my sons appointment was not notice for such a large bill. Then to be offered to reschedule months out and be billed again is absurd after we waited 6 months for a new client appointment. read more

There are lots of reasons for all the one star reviews... including malpractice! My ex-wife & I share joint custody of our daughter. We do the best we can to co-parent. When my ex contacted this group on behalf of our daughter, I wasn't able to be a part of that initial correspondence. However, I was able to join my ex when we brought our daughter into this practice for her assessments. At that time, I submitted a brief document to Trina's staff. The brief document I submitted highlighted relevant background information on my daughter from my perspective. Fast forward a few months. When Trina began to read her final report to my ex-wife and I via a zoom call, I asked Trina - "did you receive the document I submitted to your staff?" She said no. Yet, a few days later, I followed up with a phone call. During that call - Trina admitted she had the document I'd submitted. The right thing to do - was for Trina to revise the report to include points/quotes from the document I'd submitted several months prior. However, that is not what she did. Instead, Trina just doubled down and told me she'd put the document I'd submitted in my daughters "file." Ignoring relevant information, very necessary to include in a psychological report is malpractice! Trina's action also completely fails her own companies "Core Values." Mr./Mrs. Greer, Imagine one of you contacted a psychologist to complete an assessment/report for your child. Imagine one of you gave that practice a brief document with detailed background information on your child. What is it called, if the psychologist refused to include any points/quotes from your document into their final report? Malpractice! read more

Overall just felt it time to write about past experience from being in Virginia and receiving services here not that long ago. Making the 1st appt was tough, not because at the time they had nobody available but was very disorganized with the front office when calling. Got in touch with director who assured me things would be smoother but there was an assumption we could leave messages securely online on their website but at the time, the service was never operational. Checked it recently, looks like you can text them but online accounts still do not allow online messages. Therapist at 1st was somebody quoting God constantly, not helpful in a practical sense. Changed therapist and was better but sessions never had any cohesion of what had been talked about before, zero direction--and they were always very tardy starting, which cut my paid time short. Other problem was therapist shutting down when emotions were expressed by me in session, which seems to be a safe place where we are needing to be a little vulnerable, sad, cry a little, or show reasonable anger, but this seemed to make therapist I had abandon the session completely, even though emotions shown were calm and no more than a friend might see from me. Seems the company is now into consulting others on how to start up their own counseling businesses now, which seems a bit ironic. Maybe nobody thinks therapists do a good job after lots of time together, but just felt no progress was made with short sessions and therapist less organized when we met after first 10 or so sessions. Need time respected, honesty from therapist and evaluating progress, so hopefully they will recommend work to do outside of sessions and discussions to take a pause if they do not feel they can help or are helping. A lazy therapy approach wastes everybody's time but it hijacked my moving forward more efficiently in the areas counseling was there to address. read more

I was seen by Tracey Crawley. I have been to multiple therapists over the past 10 years and have been lucky enough to have very helpful ones, however this was not one of those times. She was very condescending and seemed to shame me for choosing to not take medication. Would not recommend. Or at least would recommend finding a different provider, as I cannot speak for them. read more

Avoid Genesis Counseling if you can. Fraudulent billing seems like their best means of cashing in on vulnerable patients. They sent me an incorrect bill initially so I called for clarification. They promised to get back with me. Without getting back with me, 30 days later, they sent me a larger bill including a 30-day late payment fee. I called again thinking I was dealing with a professional office. They told me again that it must have been an error so they will look into it. They never got back. Another 30 days later, and without getting back with me, they sent me a much larger bill with 60 days late payment fees. This is fraudulent billing. My next step after this review is to file a claim with the Virginia State Board. read more

Do not use this office, it was not explained to me that just 1 visit would generate 3 bills. 1st they use a computer to psychoanalysis you..ya a computer to judge my competency..Then they charge you to see the counselor, then they charge you when the counselor reads the computer print out..3 bills...I have a friend going through the same surgery and she used another counselor...1 bill that was it..This place is a scam to get to your insurance and your money....use someone else. read more

Horrible service, text reminders for appointments are erratic sometimes sent sometimes not. Over the last 6 months they have changed policies multiple times, no email or text notifications of the changes, sometime a sign they post on a wall. They have few open appointments and it is very very difficult to get a regularly scheduled appointment. My Copay's for being seen changed multiple times randomly for me and for other members of the family with no explanation. Office manager (Cassie) is rude and refers to signs posted on random walls for policy changes, then told me my family was no welcome there because I complained. Save yourself a headache and find a counseling service that is well run, the counselors are good, but the management is extremely horrible. *** my complaints are the same as other reviews from 4 and 6 months ago and in that time I would say the service has gotten worse read more

The office staff does not communicate well. I used the text service for appointment reminders and never received them. Charged THREE no show fees before someone from the office decided to check on us to see if we are ok! Now I owe $195 for no service. We go to several different doctors and none of them have this policy or care for their patients. Most of them text or call for appointment reminders. Tried talking to the office staff, they were no help. She essentially called me a liar and said the texts were set up for me. This office obviously is looking for ways to charge fees instead of looking out for the client. It is a shame the counselor was a fantastic fit for our needs. read more
