Teller was great it was actually the branch manager that I had a problem with. Not friendly. Brought child to work. Not very professional. Opened account with a lump sum check. A 10 day hold ok but 30 day hold unheard of for me. Why does my check have to be held for 30 days..when I asked she snapped she got nasty and told me to take my check somewhere else after I already signed it ..Cant wait for it to clear so I can go withdraw all of it and close the account...WoW..not my kind of bank she really racial profiled me thou... read more

Many many cons to banking with gen fed. I have had several situations where a deposit or a transfer was unable to complete. Each time I have been told the computer servers were down, this has happened numerous times. Very few locations, making it inconvenient with travel/emergencies. When I first walk in the door someone greets me with a smile and lets me know they will get to me as soon as they can. They are always ready to answer my questions concerning my account. We've banked here a few years. I recommend the other Wadsworth location. There's a girl here that I've spoken with a few times, who is extremely rude, but the manager at the Lyman St. location is wonderful. On genfed in general.. Their website is horrible. Not mobile friendly at all, if it's even working on mobile. Things show up on your statement, then they are gone the next day, I've complained but they claim this NEVER happens. Hard to believe since on 2 different occasions, purchases were reorganized seemingly to cause an overdraft, which they claim is the system's fault. You can't really complain to anyone above the branch, they don't give out phone numbers, they will only e-mail complaints on your behalf (they won't give you e-mail contact either). There's no access to anyone above the branch..just try it. We also have had a credit card with them, and their credit card website is equally horrendous and frustrating..it'll display inaccurate numbers constantly. If you increase your limit, your statement will show one thing, but the website will show another weeks later. The website also has empty links, won't open previous month's statements, and if you make payments from your genfed account...that's another disaster..you'll make a payment, let's say on the 4th..it'll get posted to your card 4 days later, under a date before when it's shown as taken from your account, like the 1st..essentially showing that you paid on your genfed credit card, days before you actually made the payment..why? "It's the system"..but can you complain? To whom? there's no-one above the branch YOU can speak with. They do have an "IT Department" which handles questions about why things appear and disappear and get dated inconsistently on a regular basis..good luck speaking to them directly too..won't happen. We're closing our checking accounts with them and switching to a different bank. Our experience was "meh" overall. A system should at least process things consistently, rather than once it switches to a date 3 days different, next time 1 day different, our credit card and checking accounts could never be matched up because posting dates are all over the place. Looking at statements online is almost pointless. Though the manager at the Lyman location could always be counted on to be professional and courteous..I still wouldn't bank here again. read more
