He has NO idea??? how about you count them, buddy you only own the place for decades!! Ugh and THEN for a place that has LONG past its popularity... he wanted nearly $2000 for a dead Saturday in February in the morning!!! he didn't have to serve food. It was FAIR with multiple vendors. LEFT me alone with no help getting out as I had recently broken my leg and ribs and was walking with a cane. I was awaiting for my operation to repair my leg . I attended a family birthday party here for 80-100 guests. It was a decent sized space. The decor in the lobby was a little bit dated. Inside the hall, some of the dishes and glasses were dirty or had watermarks on them. Also, management would not let us decorate the room as desired. We wanted to put up balloons and decor on one wall and they said this was not allowed. This is fine, but should have been clearly communicated during the contract process. Finally, they locked the bathroom doors at the end of the night so guests didn't have access. I understand that it was after the official end time for our event, but knowing that there are still guests on the premises cleaning up and loading items into our cars, especially a number of elderly folks who couldn't move around very easily, it felt like we were unwelcome and getting kicked out. On the positive side, I will say the food and service were great. The waitstaff worked quickly and the quantity of food met the needs of our group. They accommodated all of our requests when it came to music and AV support. read more

I just had my son's first communion party yesterday at Gennaro's. I booked Gennaro's after getting some positive recommendations from friends. I had never been there, but only heard positive things....then I went on YELP and got a little nervous from reading some of the so/so reviews. Here's my experience: First off, the staff is very friendly. Donna and Jerry went ABOVE AND BEYOND for the party. The prices were VERY reasonable and they have a great menu to choose from. We did the Buffet and were not dissapointed. The food was DELICIOUS!!! We had the chicken Gennaro's, Eggplant Rollatini, Pork chops and peppers, and fried calamari, roast beef, striing beans, roasted potatoes, Gennaro's house salad, etc. etc....all great! Their passing hors d'oeuvres were great! The rice balls were to-die-for! The Cake was delicious! The service was also great. One of the buffet servers kept asking if I made sure I had something to eat because I was so busy running around. We used our own Deejay, but used their suggested Vendor AJ's Party center/Balloons and would HIGLY recommend them for any party. Steven helped me create the perfect balloon centerpiece, which were even more beautiful in person. And he also created the most spectacular candy table....which was SO beautiful, as well as delicious!!! And their prices were reasonable. I had my 30th birthday party at Gennaro's in August, 2010. The service was excellent. From the minute I put my deposit down the owner and the staff made sure I had the party of my dreams. I went with a buffet and I was overwhelmed because the food selection was quite large. I finally narrowed it down and EVERYTHING I selected got rave reviews from every guest. The price was very reasonable. I had priced around and Gennaro's had the best deal. $45 per person included buffet style dinner, pasta & salad, appetizers, top shelf open bar, birthday cake, and even the linens (some places actually make you supply your own). We went to another great party at Gennaro's. Cocktail hour and reception after the wedding of an old friend. If you want to have a party with good food and good service where you don't feel swallowed up in a giant, multiroom hall with three other parties, Gennaro's is perfect. Cocktail hour is in the upstairs room featuring a beautiful bar, crystal chandelier and marble dance floor. It's big enough for a generous variety of tasty snacks and hors d'oervres. When the crowd is all there and the bride is ready, we go downstairs for the sit-down dinner. The room is big enough for at least 150 for dinner which was just perfect for Mimi's reception. The food was great and the service friendly and efficient just like the other events we have experienced at Gennaro's. I love the gold leaf ceiling, it gives the room a nice glow and now that they have variable color controlled wall lights, it reflects the changing lighting beautifully. I recently attended a Sweet Sixteen party at this venue. It was definitely a nice time. Valet is quick and friendly. Service was really friendly and attentive. It does seem a bit dated--but fits right in with most catering halls that I've been to for some reason. The food was ok. Passed apps, Italian dinner buffet. Beer and wine. All of it was ehhh. If it weren't for the service received, probably would have given it three stars. I came here for a Retirement party on June 29, 2012 in honor of a former co-worker. The first thing everyone noticed, was that there was nothing & no one placed in the front to indicate where we would all sit. As a result, people sat down where ever they felt like it. That was cool, until we got the actual seating arrangement, & the people that began eating the appetizers left on the table realized they were eating someone else's food! The appetizer was fresh tomato, basil, & mozzarella cheese. It also had some type of vinagerette. It wasn't bad. It wasn't good. It was just meh. There was also bread & wine on the table. The wine was some cheap brand that would probably give you a headache if you drank too much. The bread was okay but it was cold. We were so hungry!! The party was supposed to start at 7pm. Granted, it didn't start til about 8pm but waiting 40 mins or more between each course was ridiculous. For the entree' I had the veal. It was salty, tangy, & bitter. There was way too much lemon used in this dish. It was just not good. They gave me 4 big pieces. Though I was still pretty hungry at that point, I only ate 2 pieces & that was more then enough. The sides were a knish & some veggies... ok whatever. I'm giving this place one star for the beautiful table settings & 1 star for the decent bread & decent appetizer. I was invited to a party at Gennaro's back in mid-January and will never be back. My table ordered a bottle of red wine. Once we poured the wine into our glass, we noticed it was not the color red, but the color brown. We told the waiter, and he said he would bring us a different bottle of wine. Unfortunately, the same thing happened. At that point, we decided it wasn't worth it to complain about it anymore. Next, our entrees came out. About 25-50% of the people at the party ordered the fish. The problem with the fish? It was completely and totally raw. For EVERYONE! How does food like that get sent out of the kitchen? When someone said something to the waiter he responded: "I didn't cook it, it's not my fault" and then he just walked away. I wish I could say something nice about this hall.
