I recently went to a wedding here. Recent as it being last night. Everything was great except the food. This review is solely based on the food. Despicable for a wedding. I'm surprised because I read these reviews a few weeks ago... Let's start with cocktail hour. I got there like 20 mins after it started but that doesn't give it an excuse for me to be served rock hard fried ravioli, mozzarella sticks that tasted like it came out of the microwave and the cheese not even melted and gooey, the mussels had black stuff all over it inside, and everything else being served tasting bland. When we got to our tables it took at least 30 mins for the bar to be open. And cmon... weddings are based around drinking and having a good time. There was a small plate with a piece of unsalted bland mozzarella, a thin slice of prosciutto, with a balsamic glaze. Ok but all bland. The bread on the table - cold and hard. Then the salad plate comes. Overly oily and salty. Barely picked at it. We waited about an hour until the next dish came. Aren't they supposed to come out with a pasta dish or ask what main course we wanted? Nope. An hr after the salad the room stared to smell like fish. Not that good smelling fish I'm talking about the Fulton fish market smell -_- omg... Ok so it was surf n Turf. The steak was still mooing and the lobster was still alive for a week...rubbery and stale. The only decent thing on the plate was 3 small baby potatoes which was decently seasoned. My broccoli had blood around it.. The few people at my table did not eat a thing. My boyfriend didn't touch his plate - I told him to eat the potatoes only because he was drinking. If this was a restaurant I would have walked out. Listen - I know this isn't the most priciest catering hall but for a wedding?! No one should have to pay anything for undercooked and over cooked food. I don't know what went wrong in that kitchen but it seemed like everything did. Honestly all I really ate was a cookie from the desserts. I'm really trying to save people money not well spent if you are looking into booking this place. Please consider this review. read more

Last Saturday, on 6/2/18, I held my husband's retirement party here. Jerry is great to work with. He gave me lots of good ideas during the planning process and was kind and courteous. The space upstairs is just right for about 90 to 100 guests. Our color theme was black with a touch of red. The table linens, once draped, really captured the essence of what I was looking for. We had a sit down dinner and the servers were on point. I love that my guests could choose from four dishes. And it was scrumptious. Hubby and I had the fish. Everyone we asked said the food was delicious. The cake was included in our package and did not disappoint, as well as the other desserts. I highly recommend the extra fee for the valet parking. It made life very easy for my guests. And there is an elevator for guests who can't walk up the stairs to the second level. The bathrooms were clean and the bar was stocked. Couldn't ask for a better place to have this event. Thanks to Jerry and his staff. Will definitely use Gennaro's again and recommend to others! read more

We recently celebrated our daughters Sweet 16 here. The owner Jerry couldn't do enough for us and was there every step of the way. His maitre'd Donna, was very attentive and patient with our needs, and last minute panic attacks. She was on top of everything and took care of matters promptly. The rest of the staff were very polite and professional. The food was excellent. The party was buffet style. Jerry offered to customize it to our liking but we were happy with what he had to offer. Dessert table consisted of cupcakes, ice cream, awesome bakery cookies and fruit trays. He also had a sheet cake on hand in case our cake wasn't enough. I would recommend this place to anyone. The only reason why you shouldn't have your party here is because you have too many guest. Not sure of the exact number but if your pushing 150 it might be a bit tight. But don't take my word on that, give Jerry a call. You won't regret it !!!!! read more

Recently had a gym party at Gennaro's catering hall. We had over 100 people. Open bar and a DJ. The service was impeccable the food fresh and delicious. The hall is impressively clean and Jerry and Hank who own the establishment are very Hands-On and cooperative. Everyone of their staff did everything they could to make sure every guest was happy. Trust me when I tell you.. DO NOT GET MARRIED HERE. DO NOT. WAIT FOR ITTT. My husband and myself got married this past July. The music was great but the service was poor and we got many complaints on the quality of food at dinner. As the bride and groom we were not catered to much and in fact when we walked in the door no one greeted us and no one even simply asked if I was thirsty or hungry (which I was being that we got married in dead of July) The liquor was very cheep and there were not enough servers for the amount of people we had. We were so disappointed. Us and our guests are very easy to please we couldn't understand how we had spent this much to be so disappointed. Thank God we have awesome family and friends who made the whole wedding wonderful by their joy, understanding, and energy :) NOW HERE IS WHERE IS GETS INSANE The hall recommended a photographer and sub contracted one for us through them. They gave us the run around for months in regards to our professional wedding photos.Turns out they ended up COMPLETELY LOSING ALL OF OUR 500 WEDDING PHOTOS. 6 months later they would not financially compensate us AT ALL telling us they felt all we deserved was a new photo shoot with the same photographer. LIKE WHAT?! We got so desperate for for some kind of justice and peace to move on with our lives that we had to threaten court for them to even give us a small reimbursement. Mind you no amount of money in this world can replace those memories. They were totally remorseless and didn't even reach out to us to try and make it better or see how it was going for us. They ignored us and disregarded us, hung up the phone on us. we felt so small and robbed of these beautiful memories from that day. They finally wrote us the small reimbursement check after we kept demanding something to be done for our huge loss. A week later, they magically "found the pictures." We spent the past 6 months thinking we had lost our wedding photos and having told our whole family so and were forced to send out a thank you for a sub par picture taken from a IPhone, AFTER ALL THAT, they demanded the money back after the check had been cashed over a week ago. They bullied us in their office and held our pictures hostage and refused to GIVE US OUR PICTURES THAT WERE RIGHTFULLY OURS AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN GIVEN TO US 6 MONTHS AGO until we paid them back the money which was signed over to us in contract a week ago with OUR NAMES ON IT IN OUR BANK ACCOUNT. The owner screamed and cursed at us demanding all the money back in CASH not even a check. We couldn't believe anyone could treat someone like this after all they had done to rob us of our wedding experience and joy. We realized then we should have taken them to court all along because we tried to spare them the large amount we would have gotten but really they ended up flipping it all on us. It was too late, nice guys finishes last I guess. We were put into a corner and decided our wedding pictures were not worth getting hurt or them deleting them out of spite (which they threatened that they would do). We walked out of the hall having spent 6 months of our lives back and forth from Brooklyn crying and demanding justice over these photos with NOT A PENNY in our hand for all the heartache and wasted time we had gone through in that half a year. They took advantage of us as a young couple and acted completely selflessly. They only "cared" about us when it came to taking our money to book the wedding. As soon as they had our money they only cared about themselves. I have worked in the wedding industry for years and always dreamed of my wedding day and it turned out to be a total nightmare. Trust me, the people who run this place are TERRIBLE PEOPLE. I have said that about a rare few people in my life but I mean it, this experience is so heartwrenching to think about let alone write about the it and I never truly never want anyone to go through this. I always dreamed about my wedding day and I truly wish I could have been writing a great review of the day write now but I cant and it makes me so sad. The least I can do is try to warn people so no one has to go through this on the most special day of their life. read more

Gennaro's left a grand place in my heart. I recently was a guest at an event at Gennaro's, the food was beyond exquisite and with perfect proportions. The hors d'oeuvres and penne vodka, where do I start?!?! The penne vodka, my absolute favorite pasta was perfectly cooked al dente. The vodka sauce itself was heavenly, not too salty but far from bland. The steak, WOW, was most definitely out of this world, tender and juicy, cooked to perfection (I LOVE an amazing steak!). Now onto my favorite part of any meal; desserts, I think I may have entered food heaven early, for all of the desserts that I tried were delectably delicious, it was as if I were tasting heaven but in my mouth, which I can still taste. The venue itself very much so has a beautiful and elegant old charm to it despite what some Yelpers feel, I am very much so fond of the venue, I feel that Gennaro's wouldn't be Gennaro's if it were to be redone. It was impeccably and beautifully decorated, very ornate and with such elegance. You can most definitely tell that Jerry, the owner, takes the utmost pride not only in the appearance of the venue but also the food and outstanding service. Jerry is extremely personable, he genuinely cares and it shows tremendously. The service is beyond all expectations, having the utmost grand caliber of customer service, you can definitely tell its instilled but also passion. I myself am very meticulous about service and presentation and this venue is far from superbly done, most definitely in a league of its own. I wish I found Gennaro's much sooner, however, I will most certainly return. Whatever occasion that you may have, YOU MUST COME HERE!! Big thanks to Jerry and staff for a job very well done. We recently had our twin boys christening at Gennaros catering hall and people are still talking about what a great time it was. We had a big crowd of over a hundred people and it was very comfortable and our guests were very well taken care of. My wife has thrown some work parties at Gennaros and they have all been very nice parties. Jerry the owner is just the nicest guy who genuinely cares and will make sure your event goes perfectly. The space is very well decorated and clean. The staff are well trained and were all very helpful and polite. I had my wedding reception recently in May at Gennaro's, and it was Great! Henry, Jerry, Pete, Robert, and Donna were so helpful. They were patient with my husband's and I lack of decision making and made great suggestions. Donna did a fantastic job managing my mother, vendors , and flow of the evening. Pete the photographer was in a car accident same day right before our schedule time for pics but still came to take our pics ad stayed through the night. Talk about dedication. All my friends and family had a blast, the food was good and generous. Cocktail hours food was plentiful, i didnt get a chance to eat but eard the calamri was the best. The entree each had shrimp, chicken, and steak and that i can attest was awesome. We added the venetian dessrt which was so much sweets it was almost overwhelming if i wasnt such a food lover. Music on point, spacious for just a little under a 100 guests, plus it was OPEN BAR. They have the best wedding packages for different needs that include many amenities such as DJ, photog, videographer, limo... YUP!!! Easy planning. I had my sweet 16 here back in 2000. I was actually the first party that the hall did upon completion. I had an amazing experience. My dad & I actually booked the 2nd floor room prior to it being finished. There was no kitchen or electricty when we first books. My mom was nervous but I knew everything would work out. & Everything worked out to be amazing. Worst customer service ever, the guy bartender questioning how many drinks I order when I already paid for open bar and I always tip 5 dollars every time I go up. Food wise, they were not prepared to serve 50 people. There wasn't enough food. That they had to cook more during the event. The roast beef option that we had, only two pieces that was like a bite each, like can't you get a bigger roast beef for the carving table. The size of the roast beef they presented was absolutely pathetic, it was legit the size of my pinky finger per slice. Then they took my presents away, that was just there on the table, saying I can get it back at the end of the night. What's the point of bringing it to give to people, it loses the point. The waiters are so respectable . Right down to the valet that handled everything so organized . They used their house DJ who had the dance floor full throughout the party ! Definlitely wouldn't be my first choice if you are having a wedding with 100 or more people. The line for the cocktail hour reached the back of the room. The seats at the table were on top of each other. It was difficult for people to leave the table. The food was tasty, but not was not warm. The Maitre D was not pleasant or even useful. Dinners got mixed up and some people ended up with no food. I have no idea how that can even happen. Horrible and not even a apology was the bride given!! read more

I attended an event here on a Saturday night, and while we had a great time, and the bartender was friendly and fast, we all commented during the car ride home that the food was the worst any of us could remember eating at a catering hall. All of our dinners came out freezing cold and I needed to cut through the filet of sole with a saw. I felt bad for the hosts since they obviously spent a lot of money and knew the main course was a disaster for all of their attendees. read more

Just had my third party here! Jerry and Donna made sure my boys communion was the best! The food was delicious and my guests are still raving about how great the food was! The ravioli and penne vodka were so tasty! The pork chops and fish were delicious. I switched the dates of my party 3 times and they were so patient with me and worked through all my details. Great place. I was there for a wedding recently and the food was great, DJ was spot on and beer flowed like wine. Staff was friendly and attentive and the manager, Peter, was very helpful. Had our wedding there and it turned out to be fantastic! The service provided by Donna, Jerry and Henry were excellent. We booked with Jerry who was friendly. Then Donna is the person who did the set up of the wedding and she was awesome. She is very organized and detailed!! The day of the wedding, Henry was the man who ran the show. He was very attentive and coordinated perfectly with DJ and everything else going on. Food is also excellent. We continuously heard wonderful compliments about the food (especially baked clams and steak). Everyone loved Henry, it felt like he was part of the family! The space was perfect (we had 125 ppl) and it wasnt crowded and we werent so scattered either.
