Great coffee, wonderful staff, and inviting atmosphere…read more Bonus there is a gym and salt water spa and pool for the 55+ community small monthly fee and they have classes available daily!!!

I really liked the space and what it has to offer for "non-residents" like myself. I obtained a gym membership. (I get a discount through my health insurance and chose the Marquis Community over other gyms that offer more classes but do not have a salt-water pool). I was initially very excited about the salt-water pool and gym. However... The Marquis does not list their fitness classes or pool schedule on-line. I went to their website and looked for information. I filled out a "Contact Us" form. (It went no where. Perhaps a glitch but this has happened to me a few times.) The definition of a "senior" or "uniquely-abled person" is we may have limitations. How do I know which services, classes, gym schedule, pool schedule I wish to access if I cannot locate the information? I should not have to get a ride to the Marquis in order to obtain a schedule or program information in order to plan my day, week, month. On the positive side, the salt-water pool is amazing. The gym has some nice equipment and is clean. The locker room is accessible. The rest of the Marquis (fireplace, puzzle/books in the lobby, coffee bar, seated areas) is a pleasant place to spend time. I just wish I had a schedule! Please post on-line, create a link for up-to-date schedules, anything that would make your community more welcoming to those of us that do not live there.

We hired them to take care of my elderly mother who was rapidly declining, but I ended up supervising the caregivers even when we had 2 caregivers because my mother was such a fall risk. When I wasn't there, my mother ended up falling and hitting her head. There was always confusion when new staff arrived because the office staff was not communicating well the instructions on getting into my mother's building. As a nurse, we always have a hand off when care is changing over. There was none of that with their caregivers. At least they would not abandon their clients and wait until the next caregiver would arrive. They claim that they have med trained staff, but their training was only 5 hours and it was only sufficient for meds that were scheduled. If meds were as needed, they did not have the training to adequately give them. Most of the "medication trained" staff that I spoke to did not even know what common medications were used for, what side effects to look for ect. Their caregivers may be adequate for clients who don't have family to care for them who are completely cognizant but I would not recommend them for confused elderly patients with complex medical issues. Moved my mom into Hopewell house where she received excellent, compassionate, competent care. I was finally able to leave her feeling confident in their capable care.

Obviously you want to find the best care possible for your family so the search began. I went to tour Cedar Crest and liked it immediately. I stopped in unannounced and was offered a tour. The atmosphere was very calm, a lot of the residents were engaged in some activity or another, it was very clean, the residents looked clean and the care givers were very attentive to them. There was no smell of urine or anything else. The person that gave the tour pointed out several little things that I would have never thought of like, in the courtyard that is in the middle of the facility, the plants are all edible just in case one of the residents eats one. Those little things are big things for the residents. I go daily to see my MIL and every time I'm there, the staff is very kind, compassionate and answer any questions I might have. My MIL has very long hair that needs to be braided every night to avoid tangles and her care providers ALWAYS do a beautiful job. I feel a sense of trust that she is being cared for by the best! They also have an RN on staff, they have a doc that specializes in Gerontology who comes to the facility to see the patients. They do NOT have to go be transported out to a doctor. They also have a Medical Director on staff. They have their State Audits in a binder in the waiting room for full disclosure. I am extremely impressed with all of them. Thank you so much Cedar Crest for not only taking outstanding care of our mom but also being compassionate to our family.
