I hired Gentry movers for a local move from Greeneville to Kingsport. On MOVING day, they showed up on time, however the lead mover said he wasn't feeling good, and suggested I call for TO RESCHEDULE...on mov day!! He then proceeded to inventory my move, and 1/2 way through my house, walked off the job and drove away, saying he wouldn't move me. I called to get a replacement, but none was available. The owners apologized and said they would try to reschedule me the following weekend. I would not recommend this company read more

I spent Thursday--all day--with Mr. Gentry and his crew. They are based in Elizabethton, and we moved from Erwin to Kingsport. They arrived on time, we took a quick tour, and they immediately set to work. They were businesslike and courteous. They did take breaks in the heat-but did not dilly dally. They listened to what me, my husband, or our "helpers" asked or needed. I am a UM pastor and have moved multiple times in my career. Damaged furniture and parts of home and tries to hide it, they drink on the job and have a bad attitude about the job to each other and to the customers. They don't pay taxes on the business or have a payroll for the employees. The trucks are dirty and old. All around bad business read more

Gentry Moving did a great job serving us for a move with a pick up in east Tennessee, a second pick up in a North Carolina city, and delivery to a third location in North Carolina. This was all done in one long, extremely hot July day. Gary and his crew were efficient and careful with our belongings and worked hard under very adverse conditions due to heat, traffic tie-ups beyond their control, and two flights of stairs at the second pick up location--and all was done cheerfully. Lisa in the office provided a clear and precise estimate of costs and services and was very responsive to any questions we had. Gentry recently moved us from Johnson City to Elizabethton. Four men arrived promptly, assessed our belongings and began the moving process in an efficient and professional manner. We had to visit two locations to pick up my belongings, then deliver to Elizabethton. Everything went well at both pick up sites and then at the delivery site. The crew was friendly, efficient, worked quickly but were determined to place everything exactly as I wanted it. I found the cost to be very reasonable and the crew very easy to work with. Absolutely horrible customer service guy had a short temper and refused to try and pull in my drive way and cussed me and told me to get someone else to do it. Guess what got a uhaul and got in drive way easy horrible customer service and horrible management. Dont go here they probably do good on easy moves with flat driveways but still rude and disrespectful. Never use this company tried to leave me stranded. read more

I have had them move me twice the first time in February was perfect. Timely and time efficient with 4 men and price was $800.00. Second time in October 8 months later they had a unprofessional person on a three man crew. They charged us $1,200.00 for the same amount of furniture. They even said the had given us a discount. We went and spoke to the owner in person and he was rude and condescending. Then told my husband three men was just as efficient as four men. Really so why the extra $400.00. Felt cheated and want others to not make our mistake. Owner is a crook. read more

Hired these guys to move about 200 miles. There were on time and workers did a good job until the owner took control of every move. Things got left behind and others broken. Didn't find the broken things until after the movers were gone. The owner came and looked at everything and gave us a price and said he could get everything on 2 straight trucks. They filled the 2 trucks up and there was quit a bit left. Had to rent a U-Haul to finish the move. I was not at the house when he left. After the move was over I confronted the owner about the things that were left behind, he was less than professional and acted like I should have said something before he left the house. He ran out with talking to me and had to know he didn't have everything. Beware of this guy, he will take your money and not do what he had agreed to. Excellent service from start to finish. Had arrangements done in the first phone call -- household move from Bath County, VA, to Gate City, VA. Reasonable and fair cost, and received written estimate in a few days. The movers arrived on time and worked quickly. They were very careful with our household goods. It was obvious this crew knew what they were doing; e.g., very experienced with excellent skills in handling furniture and boxes, efficiently loading the truck, and unloading at the destination. I spoke with the owner who rambled on for 26 minutes having nothing to do with my move. His demeanor was pleasant, but used profanity in one instance, which was not to my linking. When he grabbed a piece of paper to take down detailed information, I described the rooms of furniture I have. It was then that he accused me of being dishonest, that I wasn't straight with him and refused to provide me his moving service. While explaining that his assessment was incorrect, I discovered that he had hung up on me. He greatly lacks business sense. What happened to the days when movers came to your home to access what's all involved? My overall assessment: profanity was unprofessional, made an unfounded false accusation, and too verbose--should have kept the conversation strictly to business! read more

We chose this company based on a referal from our real estate company. They weren't their first choice or ours,but they were the only ones who could do the move on the day we needed. The owner seemed very professional and promised to be very careful with our things. He also stated that they were fully insured, and assured us we would be happy with his work. He did show up on time and moved us fast, but we were not happy with the lack of care he gave our furniture. Several items were damaged, but he would not accept responsibilty. He reimbursed for repairs to only one item that he personally damaged. The rest he said were not his fault. He had two different crews and the one at this end were just day laborers he hired to help out. I don't know who damaged the items, but they were all fine before the move. read more

My father and I use gentry movers for a move in November 2014. The move did not go well for us. We were told it would take five hours and we would be charged by the hour but it took over nine hours. During the move there was damage to one of the doorways in our new home. It was a 3 inch gash knocked in the drywall. When my 89 year-old father ask about the damage- the owners son, who was in charge of the crew, became very angry. He got in my father's face and yelled, "are you calling my guys liars?" My father is very mild-mannered and kind. He wanted to know how the damage had happened and let them have the opportunity to repair it. Through the interaction my father remain calm and poised but the company owner son screamed, was aggressive toward my father, and use profanity. They lack of professionalism, don't have the ability to estimate jobs well, and I don't take ownership for damage they may do. But worst of all they don't have respect for their elders, they're just downright mean. Since unpacking we have found several other things that were broken or scratched during the move. read more
