I was driving and there weren't that many other people on the road close to Diamond Bar. What wound up happening was a mistake by another car that didn't see me. I went around a white Dodge truck and went to merge back into the lane I had just left. There was a grey Cadillac in the adjacent lane that hadn't moved. As soon as I merged back, the other car started to merge too. They couldn't see me because I was likely in their blind spot, but the driver merged without any blinker or signal. I tried to get out of the way but I couldn't and crashed into me. I lost control of my car and wound up hitting the guardrail. From the impact of the accident, I was left with a broken collarbone, dislocated shoulder, and a lingering headache that later turned out to be a mild concussion. The damage was too much to deal with immediately afterward, since it hurt to breathe and I could only effectively move my left arm at the time. An ambulance came and took me to the hospital in Pomona where they put my shoulder back in its socket, repaired my collarbone, and gave me a lot of pain meds. I expected professionalism, clear communication, and actual preparation. That's not what I experienced. During the consultation, Lauren was extremely convincing. She said all the right things and made me feel confident hiring her. Looking back, my experience did not match what was presented to me at all. After I paid the retainer, I was billed an additional $12,150 just 2.5 weeks later. Then, only 2 hours after sending that bill, I received a substitution of attorney request. The timing felt abrupt and honestly concerning. From there, communication quickly broke down. She ultimately moved to withdraw close to trial, leaving me in a stressful position trying to figure things out while my case was still active. Another major issue- she rarely appears at hearings herself. Instead, her associate, Aniko, is sent in her place. This was not something that Lauren does not clearly explain during the consultation process! The communication overall was incredibly poor. On the morning of an ex parte hearing, I received a text from Lauren saying, "Court is looking for you. Are you on your way?".. despite never being clearly told the hearing date or time. When I asked where that information had been provided, I was directed back to the filing itself, which did not list a hearing date. At that point, there was still no meaningful trial preparation or evidence package completed for my case. I needed a divorce lawyer and was unfortunate to have used this law firm, I selected them after…read moremeeting with an attorney of the firm and was told how they do not charge you for copies or services performed by the office staff just the attorneys hours needed, and after the lawyer looked over what I had in the way of a case he told me it was fairly simple and should be around 4 to 5 thousand dollars. Sounds reasonable, right? My final bill was over $10,000.00. I found out they use a quota system with their attorneys, causing your bill to be much more hours billed for things like emails back and forth, minimums on phone calls and more. I had seen an obvious billing error on the billing statement and felt it would be best to arbitrate my final bill, and won due to issues with in the billing that I had to present at the arbitration. After all this I found if you find yourself needing a divorce it's best to find an attorney that will do it for a set agreed upon fee, or a signed agreed upon "budget plan" before you hire them. If that firm will not agree to a budget plan than keep looking until you find one who will. I assure you, there will be one who will agree if your budget plan is reasonable.
