I found the staff more professional than warm and cozy but this is not a negative, just a sense. They were unfailingly pleasant and helpful. I was not able to book last minute for dinner as they are popular so be sure to call ahead. I was welcomed for drinks and spent a nice section of my evening there in the dining area and bar.

Very dog friendly (just like all the pubs in Melrose) and they served a really nice pint of Deuchars IPA - which in itself is a rarity! There's a large outdoor area at the back that was being refurbished for our visit, but it looks pretty smart and will no doubt make an excellent area to enjoy a pint in the sun in Melrose.

The first table we sat at was a bit in the middle and as Luna (the dog) likes to spread out, they asked if we would like to move to a corner table where she has more room, I really appreciated this thought. I had lamb with potatoes and a jus. The lamb was perfectly cooked and moist. There was a lot of lamb as well, great portion size. My other half had a fish pie which was jam packed with prawns, salmon and white fish. Really fab. It was during desert that they really hit the mark. I ordered a cheese board for us to share. First came the crackers. Something that really annoys me about a cheese board is that you get lots of cheese and then 3 crackers. What you meant to do with that? I usually end up having a ton of cheese and not many crackers! This was not an issue at Burts. They brought a basket of crackers...yes, a basket. I have uploaded a picture to show this delight. The cheese was all local and ymmuy as well. They also serve real ale. My partner complained that one of the ales was off. Without questions, they changed it for something else. This place is maybe a bit more pricey compared to other restaurants in Melrose but I think it is well worth it.

The town is full of historical buildings, but this place is centrally located and had servers that truly wanted to help and serve. I was here for lunch, which was delicious, well priced (as a prix fixe lunch menu existed), and served promptly. Special requests were handled promptly. I would highly recommend this restaurant. Really a great find with wonderful dishes all over the menu and great decor. But it's the truly top notch five star excellent service that I remember the most. Wonderful all around.

I was staying one night and I was disappointed with my room - it was shabby, with two single beds (both felt like they needed new mattresses) and small dingey shower room ensuite. The walls were thin, I could hear my neighbours. The food was excellent, with local Borders food in all three courses. The food is traceable and the source of the meat and fish given on the menu.Breakfast was in the function room, a large room draughty room with only a couple of residents having food. It was enjoyable and there was good choice with large helpings. It was very good value and I would eat there again. I was parked in the over flow car park which was quiet far away from the hotel. Shame about the accomodation but the food was the highlight of the visit for me.

There are 2 different eating styles, either bar food in the Courtyard Bar, or a la carte in the restaurant. The bar food is good, although the setting is a bit 'ordinary' compared to the rest of the hotel. Usual bar meals - fish and chips, steak pie, roast dinners, salmon etc, all freshly cooked and served by friendly and helpful bar staff. They have a good selection of malts.

This was an establishment that I was not able to book online, and had to call to make a reservation. We parked up the hill near another hotel, and walked the short distance back. The bartender/owner told us that it would be alright to park there, and they would not tow the vehicle. He signed us in, at the bar, and showed us to our room. There was a short staircase up to a long hallway of doors. This is the first hotel where we had to remember to lock the door behind us. Please don't think that was a problem because it was not an issue, just added to the nice country atmosphere. The room was decorated in reds, browns, which complemented the natural wood throughout the room. On the wall opposite of the beds was a fold out iron board, and a dresser with cubbyhole that appeared as a built in. I had read on their website that the lodging had been updated, and their modest discourse did not prove to be wrong. The bathroom was like a 4-5 star quality. When I open the bathroom door, I was greeted by the sink which sat on top of the counter, open shelf below that held a few towels, and with inset pebble details. There was a step up to the spacious shower, which also had a large towel warming rack next to it. The shower was also adorned with pebble details. We ate dinner in the pub, and I partook off a spicy black bean burger with fries and a Ginger beer. The food was a good sized portion, seasoned well, and reasonably priced. I also had a slice of almond cheesecake which was covered in sliced almonds. We had our complimentary breakfast in one of the dining rooms, and we were able to order from the provided menu.
